Announcing the release of CVE-73 Gambier Bay

AI and pilotable versions of this Cassablanca class escort carrier are now available for download at SimV and FSShipyard. A video trailer is available at http://www.simteevee.com/watch.php?mdid=996&t=Introducing+the+Gambier+Bay

This is a native FSX Acceleration capable carrier. Arrestor hook landings and catapult take-off have both been tested successfully. Note that this is a short ship, so landings are a bit tricky.

The pilotable version has a few animations (check out the parking brake), lighting, and a few (default) effects. It also has multiple VC camera views for nice viewing of deck operations in multiplayer mode. The "flight" dynamics are very stable. There are no panels or sound, but 2D panels and sounds from other ships have worked fine during testing.

The AI version has been tested with the aircarriers add-on. Landing deck lights are implemented with a self-illumination texture.

Performance with this carrier has been the same as with the default carrier and most free carriers I have.

If anyone wants to do repaints, I will happily provide the Photoshop files.

This is my first flight simulator project which was chosen in honor of my grandfather who served on this ship. The model was produced with GMax from plans from The Floating Drydock. Design has been enabled by countless forum entries at many flight sim sites. Improvements are already planned, so any suggestions are welcome.

Hi Folks

Reddog -
Readme apparently contains an error -

Pilotable version - VEH_GambierBay 's folder
should be placed in your \SimObjects\Airplanes\ folder, (not in \SimObjects\Boats\).

Thanks for that note. It actually works from the Boats directory for me. I have never tried to figure out the difference (I have lots to learn yet).

I will create some traffic scenery files for this if anyone wants them. Currently my only (traffic) scenery file containing it also requires the recently released fleet by Bruce Fitzgerald, so I did not include it. That is a trip from Truk lagoon to Guam.

Just outstanding and what I was hoping for!

Looks great in my growing fleet prowling the South Pacific! Now we just need an FSX heavy or light cruiser . .

:redf: I forgot that a panel is necessary for a pilotable ship to work. None was included, because I was borrowing a panel from another ship.

You can get this to show up as an aircraft by putting any FSX panel folder in the VEH_GambierBay directory (preferably from some other ship).

I will try to upload a fixed version soon.
