Okay,

Amid some complaints,

I am starting a thread here concerning the corsica base files and the Solenzara AB.
they originated from here http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?87827-Manfred-s-C-47-%28P3D2%29

I am mainly interested as to exactly where the agn files from the Autogen 3.1 go.
Do they go into the textures of the solensara AB scenery?

Here is a sample of what I am talking about when I just installed the zara_x scenery and not the agn files (If I add those agn files to the azra_z texture folder, I get same results.

Note trees in runway.......

Note absence of roads between buildings...

The agn files (with the \texture\ folder) must be parallel to the \scenery\ folder where the photoreal BGL fiels of Corsica reside. They are linked to the photo bgls and depend on the given folder structure.
If they are anywhere else they won't work. It should look like that:

addon scenery\corse-photo\scenery --> photo-bgls
addon scenery\corse-photo\texture --> agn files

If there is no texture folder, make one or drag the \texture\ folder in the archive onto the \photo-corse\ folder.
One might say that this is not logical, which is true, because agn files have nothing to do with textures. But it's the way it is.

Any addon scenery that employs the corse photo scenery should sit on top of the photo scenery (higher priority) in the scenery database.

I have the same problem, but I did the same thing. installed the air base but not the AGN files. I use Orbx Global vectors and a host of other FTX/Orbx sceneries in Europe and do not want any of this autogen stuff here to overwrite my global files. So waiting to see exactly where to put them and if they will mess me up!

Otherwise very interesting scenery.

These agn files don't mess up anything. The custom autogen was annotated to the Corse photo bgls and are only in effect on these photo tiles ( which are without vegetation otherwise). This has nothing to do with FTX et al).

The already superb scenery looks amazing with the autogen installed, by the way. Tree lines follow small rivers, and such details. Very good work.

Mark

I renamed the zara_X folder to corse-photo folder When I copied the texture agn folder over it replaced contents of what was there, Oh veeh...

AAhhrgh - of course! :-)
I misunderstood your earlier statement about having a base corsica scenery. Sorry. Without that the autogen expansion won't make any sense.

As I said, photo hd corse is payware, but very reasonable.

Sorry about all the confusion.
I found this old thread that lead me to think that I needed that payware. But I thought that with the 3 GB file size that everything is there and wouldn't need extra enhancements.

Me too. The payware is reasonable price but holy cow at 3GIGs that's a lot of HD space used up. + those agn files and that air base LFKS to boot. hooowe.......

I found a freeware version here and will try this one.

Roger,

Thanks for the input. It is fantastic. I'll keep it in mind. It is most definitely a nice scenery. I know Ted can really demo it well and, for me, I was
ready to buy it but had to pause at the file size. The price is no prob for me it is more then fair. I just have file size issues with it for now.
I may pony up and get it eventually.

That freeware stuff would be the best choice for a first try at photoscenery on that island.
Also, if i'm not mistaken, there is a great chance that the freeware autogen WORKS with this freeware scenery. I'm not sure if I understood it correctly, but I believe the autogen .AGN file names are linked to GPS coordinates, not to a specific scenery.
It might be worth a try, anyways.

Also, you won't need any payware photoscenery in order to use the freeware ZARA_X scenery.

Probably the Solenzara scenery was built with photoscenery in mind, which means they perhaps forgot to "exclude" any local autogen that you would get with generic scenery...
In his screenshots above, Gray Eagle does not have any autogen, because that photoscenery doesn't include any, and he has not installed the freeware autogen yet. So his Solenzara airbase will probably be free of any trees (excepted the ones included in that airbase scenery).

No it is not a mess any longer. I used that freeware version and then added that autogen file mentioned before; I moved them to the top of the scenery heap in FSX
then, I added the Zara airport and a few more. They all work with that freeware scenery and not as bloated as would of been with the payware. I enjoyed the flying over
the scenic and colorful mountains etc. I figure, after awhile, I'll wander to another scenery to visit and won't have to reclaim 3GB of HD space for something else that comes
along.

Au contraire. The bases looked greait I didn't post any pics of the bases but they do work with the freeware Corsica that I mentioned earlier. In fact, I add a few more bases and they
looked great. I did install the freeware autogen as well. See my comments ^

Yep, I got the freeware configured and the autogen set up etc. Very nice, though I think the reason the freeware photo scenery is smaller is that they toned down the image contrast, making the scenery a bit more washed out than I like. I decided to bite the bullet and buy the France VFR scenery and take the 3GB hit. Below is a pic from the freeware though it has been photoshopped to bring up the contrast to what I hope the full payware looks like. (Im cruising at altitude in my realair spitfire...that old girl remains one of my regular dates for years now!)

Yes, the freeware photoscenery is smaller simply because of its resolution. It's only 2 meters per pixel, while the payware one is 1 meter per pixel. That's 4 times heavier.
But again, to cruise at middle altitude around the island, it's still quite enjoyable for the price ;)

Welp. I bought the France VFR Corse scenery. Downloaded and installed it. Its very nice. Having said that, I discovered one problem. The airfield at LFKO Propiano is displaced as shown below.

I have my Corse Photo scenery with agn files installed in the /texture directory and that works fine. I have my Zara x Solenzara AB files installed above that in the scenery.cfg file. Anybody know why I would have this problem? Interestingly I did not have this issue with the freeware scenery or the default. I also toured the other Corsican airfields and saw no problems. Just here at Propiano.

The payware scenery is quite good. Corsica is now the place I fly the most. All my test flights are done from Solenzara.

The Corse Photo HD package from FranceVFR does not include any enhancement for airports. What you see is still 100% the default airport, which is ugly and misplaced.
Fortunately, there is a freeware package containing many enhanced places, including airports. Let me find that link again...

Gray Eagle, I actually downloaded and installed the freeware and got it working no problem with proper alignment of that one airport and all, just like you.

I decided to "upgrade" to the payware because I liked the quality of the overall scenery better and just splurged for it. Anyway, generally all good except for LFKO Propiano. Downloading some freeware VFR airports for Corsica now to see if that fixes things.

This fixed the issue. One has to download the initial package, then patch it to version 1.2, then install. still some elevation issues with a couple of air fields but nothing major. I use FTX Global Vectors and their AEC tool corrected most of it. Now all seems well!

Yes it is by far!

Zara had been my startup base for many years and I've tried them all (listed on my website (http://www.mirage4fs.com/scenery.html#lfks)) and the version by SkyDesigners is the most accurate and realistic while still being easy on the frame rate.

I stayed on Corsica in summer vacation a few years ago when the coalition struck Lybia to oust Gaddhafi. Solenzara was extremely busy during that time with Mirages, F16s, Transall and Hercules taking off and landing all the time. As well as a Super-Puma helicopter patrolling the perimeter frequently. Also nice to watch were the returning jets, sometimes buzzing the field in tight formations. Our camping site was just a few klicks northeast on the beach. I drove up to the adjacent hills and watched the action on the airfield below and can confirm that the Zara rendition of airfield look very accurate, just like I remember.
Everyone was mumbling and cussing about the noise, hehe, I think I was the only one around who actually appreciated it and craned his neck each time a Mirage took off with full AB.

There is also a very nice freeware PR of Corsica available at Simviation, which comes in five parts.

http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=corsica&x=15&y=5

Or search for "Corsica", or the author's name "Diaphenous"

The file names are:

FSX_Corsica_Photoreal_Package_-_North_Part-1
FSX_Corsica_Photoreal_Package_-_North_Part-2
FSX_Corsica_Photoreal_PackageNorth_Part-3
FSX_Corsica_Photoreal_Package_-_North_Part-4
FSX_Corsica_Photoreal_Package_-_North_Part-5

It is in 60cm resolution.

I just discovered I am still using the 2m freeware, and that also displays really nicely:

There are also other updates for the pack; I have files called:
