Cheers

To answer you.... yes it is excellent..... but there is more to it than just "good".
First off there is no modding in the traditional sense. The sim is a closed source sim. You can paint skins, make missions but the flight models, damage models etc are all locked and only the developer can modify them.. which he does from time to time in patches.
Now..... what exactly do you have.. do you have the original IL2 Sturmovik? Is so... yes it is good.. but it is dated. In 2002 IL2 Forgotten Battles came out.. which was like IL2 but with a slightly modified engine and more planes... since then FB as it is commonly referred to has grown with the add on Aces Expansion Pack. The AEP brought you Mustangs, Spitfires, and more goodies.... Last Year Pacific Fighters was released. Pacific Fighters brought you Tony,Nate,Kate,Zeke, carrier landings,IWO, Pearl and more.. and it can be installed as an add on to the FB+Aces setup (which is what 99.8% of the guys have and run online) or as a stand alone sim. In my humble opini9n it is best run as an add on to the franchise.. with the fully merged edition of the sim you get all this (http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/26310365/m/4591089933/r/4591089933#4591089933). Now to be honest there are some purists who are pissed because there are certain omissions from PF due to certain "issues" with American aircraft companies I will leave nameless... but the lack of an Avenger is a minus IMO... but certainly not a show stopper by any means considering what we DO have. It is a demanding sim. if you want an easy ride and a blastem up ace in a day arcade fest... this aint it... even IL2 was way beyond that. If you want a challenging WW2 sim with a pretty diverse planeset, great graphics, good FMs & Dms, a really huge almost rabid community, and challenging AI.. that is very scalable and absolutely without a doubt MADE for a HOTAS setup... then this is the sim for you. If you have IL2 I suggest you try it for a spell.... if you really like prop sims it wont take you long to see that this one is a gem...... you will most likely want to get the Forgotten Battles GOLD pack which as you can see in the link supplied is FB+Aces... and PF as well. Install them as FB>AEP>PF>patch 3.04m, patch 4.01m>patch 4.02m. If you have a substandard rig you will want to upgrade.. if you have a jiystick with no rudder... or no joystick... you will want to upgrade... if your video card is older than 3 years... you may want to upgrade.... if you have 512m of RAM or less you will want to upgrade. The sim is challenging to fly and fight in.. forget all the stuff you thought you new about virtual flying.... except the basics.... keep them. The build on that, cause this is a whiole new world.
Good luck.

Get it... you should e able tp get the whole shebang, FB+AEP+PF for $49.98.. the cost of the original FB.. or any new game. It is well worth it IMO.

The original IL2 is still a very good game. You can download a patch to get more planes including the JU87B dive bomber. You should mess with IL2 for a month or so before you move to FB. I think that I bought FB for $12/$13 dollars 6 weeks ago along with the AEP for $10 more.
The mission builder in the IL2/FB series is the best thing since CFS2. If you're not into mission building, there are many many missions that you can download on this and other sites.

well I'm a CFS2 hand, but I have to say. For onlines combat the IL2 series is the best. But, if your looking for soething to make your own and to expand, IL2 is not it.

This series is not in the same league as anything MS made. It is heads and shoulders above them all.
So did you get it yet? :greenf: Huh huh didjaget yet!!??

Come on Snuffy, give the guy a chance to enjoy something else. I know you don't like it but it's not as bad as you might think. At least IL2 FB/AEP/PF lets us do what we couldn't with other flight sims... B17II ring a bell? ;)
Yeah Snuffy, I'm here too after a long absense. I do get away from B-A once in awhile. LOL
