For those of you unaware, Ivan just released not one but two Grumman Wildcats, a F4F-3 and a F4F-4! They're both posted in the CFS1 download section of SOH and already have a respectable amount of downloads, currently at 36 and 41.

Thanks Ivan for both! They look great!

P.S.: Ivan's La-7 has been downloaded more than 300 times....not bad Ivan!

Hi Denisch,
Thanks for noticing. This plane probably should not have been a final version yet, but one can tweak flight models pretty much endlessly. As for the visual, I considered Hubbabubba's comment about the wing root which is actually the same comment I had made earlier about his Taifun. I did not make the fixes because they would have affected a bunch of other things (like flaps, oil cooler, etc).

Any suggestions for the next project? I have a few ideas in mind along with finishing up the Ki-61 and SBD.... and the Spitfire IX or the Eindecker.

Yes, thanks for those Ivan - nice work! It's good to see new 'planes for CFS1. :icon29::icon29:

A really good Spit V for CFS1 would be tremendously useful. :)

Thanks again.

Hi Ivan!:)
I've taken copies of your two Wildcat and immediately noticed that the root wings were still not hollowed. I supposed that you've hit the same wall as I did. I had b-t of the gear in my case. Are the wings associated to mid-wings group?

Just to report on my progress, I have finished the checklist file. Not so easy to do. So many things to say, so little space to say it. I'm now immersed in the History file. It's not a necessary file for the release but I find it interesting to convey to others part of what I have found while doing research.

Your comments concerning Abacus answers to your request have titillated my curiosity. Could you elaborate on that?

Your painting technique is getting more and more sophisticated. Keep up the good work.

Hubbabubba

P.S.- I've been "under the weather" for a week due to a cold. As my wife says;"Men's cold are stronger than women's one.":crybaby:

Hallo Ivan!

How are you? I've downloaded your two Wildcats yesterday and I'm going to have a look at them this weekend. I'm also looking forward to see that Spitfire of yours. This last couple of days I've been reworking my old repaints of CFS1's stock Hurricane MkI with the authentical colour schemes and markings of several BOB squadrons and I intend to do the same for the Spitfires. CFS1's stock Spitfire being poorly designed it would be great to have yours instead.

By the way, how do you manage with AD2000? Although I haven't had time nor patience to learn it myself, I think I would be worth that you could have a look at the possibilities it offers. If you haven't got a password, I'll lend you mine.

Greetings,

Pol.

Bonjour Hubbabubba!

Une fois de plus désolé de n'avoir pu répondre plus tôt. Le temps passe si vite que l'on n'arrive plus à rien faire de ses journées ni de ses semaines!

Congratulations for the quick recognition of the épinoche the other day. I'm not personally specialized in fishes at all either but, as an illustrator, I think I must be able to reproduce anything on earth providing that I have sufficient documentation. After all, drawing and painting fishes on a PC don't appear to me that much different of repainting WWII airplanes in Combat Flight Simulator. Very often the skill you acquire in such particular field happens to help a lot in a different one.

By the way, I intend to go to the Musée de l'Armée in Brussels sometime soon in order to take some pictures of English aircraft gauges for the Lysander. I'm not quite sure my memory is right (I haven't been over there for about ten years) but I believe having seen a Bf108 on display there. If that is so, I won't miss taking some snapshots and sending them to you.

Greetings,

Pol.

Hopefully I don't forget anyone....

Remlinger55:
Actually I am not planning to do a Spitfire V. My reason is that the Mk.V was never superior to its contemporaries. Also, the shape is not all that different from the very good Mk.I's and Mk.II's out there. The Spitfire IX that I am working on is actually complete as far as visual model goes. It needs to be textured, get a DP (which would be a straight copy from M$) and a decent flight model. I am sure there will be some additional model adjustments during the texturing process.

Hubbabubba:
Sorry to hear you have been sick. Hope you feel better pretty soon.
I did not actually hit a resource limit with the wing root fix. The problem is that although I can cure the wing root bleed, I see it as a more general problem with the bleed of the landing gear struts through the upper wing and I am not prepared to deal with that yet. I believe the wings are in the mid-wings groups as are the flaps, oil coolers and such.
Abacus, presumably in response to my request, updated the Aircraft Animator link to actually point to the version 1.3 download. I got an email from them a couple of days later to ask if my problem was resolved and with the link in the email.
Regarding painting, I don't know that there is anything significantly different with the Wildcats. I picked some night lighting colours from AF5Paint when I realised that I would be converting everything to a BMP at the very end anyway. The Ki-61 was a much tougher plane to paint as was the La-7.

PJ:
I really haven't tried out AD2000 yet. These days, I have been getting up a bit earlier and by midnight, I am pretty much done. I used to reserve the hours between midnight and 2 AM for the aircraft design business and although I often turn the computer on, I seldom get anything serious accomplished.
The Spitfire IX of mine was built many months ago but just not painted or developed in any other way. I posted quite a few screen shots before the last forums update so have been reluctant to post more. (Don't want to bore people here with repeats of the same subject matter.) I spent about an hour on it a couple of days ago to adjust the flap animation which is still not quite right. The plan with this Spitfire is to make it the basis for a Griffon powered version also. I actually looked over literally a hundred or more photographs and drawings to get some of the shapes the way I wanted in this model. The later model Merlin cowling has lots of very subtle curves which I hope I was able to capture.

There are about 10 other projects in various stages that I just have not finished.

A funny thing happened a couple of days ago.
My 3 1/2 year old son has gotten interested in flight sims. He tries to see how many ways he can make a plane dive into the ground. On occasion, he sits at the computer (not my development box) and plays with the sim while we try to feed him dinner. Most of the time I am feeding him and I assist him when he gets stuck on the computer. A couple of days ago, my wife (Anna Honey) was feeding him in front of the computer while I was having dinner. She looks over at me and says: "Some of these planes are not very nice looking.... They flash all over the place".
"Yes, Honey. That's what we call bleeds."

Thanks, RNZAF Gooney!

Regarding Spitfires, here are a couple of screenshots of the unpainted plane.

You can get a pretty good idea of the shapes from these screenshots. Note the wing trailing edge (gull wing).

Hi Egypt,
Thanks for the compliment. I did download the panel, but did not include it because it wasn't my work. The Wildcats as they were uploaded fly way too well because I did not spend enough time tuning them. There will be a more realistic version released eventually. Maybe it will even have the wing roots fixed.

The Spitfire IX got most of its textures located this weekend. Nothing for screenshots though 'cause it's just all green.
