It's a nice model but a beastly handful! Got it and tweaked the afterburner but otherwise, it's a great model!

Thanks for the heads up! It looks like a very well made representation of the famous swedish cold war fighter.

I met some former swedish draken pilot at the SERE C course at the Swedish ranger school for some years back and they had some very good stories about intercepting both US U-2 and SR-71 back in the days. The SR-71 guys send a plaque to the Flygflottilj and congratulating them on the intercept.. Little doubt the draken had astonishing high altitude performance.

There's a fix for the AP, btw.

https://simulations.bookmark.se/2014/11/autopilot-alt-hold-fix/

I've also sent Tom a fix for the bank selector in HÖJD and ATTITYD mode. Let's see when he can get it implemented.

Overall a very pleasant aircraft to fly, as long as you keep the speed and AOA within limits. If only there were some (retro) sceneries and (mil) AI for Sweden.

Nice vid Storm and a lovely landing:encouragement:

I have my sound turned down quite low and I was impressed with how loud the soundset was on external view.. VERY loud! I remember seeing a Draken at Farnborough in the 60's and besides the impressive display.. it was memorable for how unbelievably loud it was!;)

Hi Mister Jafo! But was this product payware or free? Is there any way to get it anywere?:banghead:

It was freeware.

Apparently on his blog...dating to around 2011...

I now feel that the Draken project has reached its logical end. After the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise was discontinued I have gradually lost interest in flightsimming in general, and add-on development in particular, and I no longer have the time or energy to keep a full-scale web community running. And so I have decided to close shop.

The site was up and running as of recently. I found a bug in the fuel system and reported it to Thomas back in December and he acknowledged my report and said he was working on a patch. I checked back since then and up to a couple of weeks ago, the fuel system patch wasn't added yet. The page outage is probably temporary and I believe he's still slowly working on a P3D only version (with the FSX version now being final).

I just found what looks like an older version of the Draken, for FS2004, but according to the post it also works in FSX.

A search on Simviation for "Draken" results in quite a few different packages, including some from Thomas Nilsson (Bookmark).

Here's a simple import from version 3.2 for FS9 that contained the Austrian model and paints. All I've done is file-name changes and a new roundel on 'fsx_detail.dds'. But the whole thing needs re-doing to get a good clean exterior. Sadly the Austrian model does not port well and needs to be converted to FSX. Any volunteers???

I'm expiring an CTD when trying to change the aircraft in P3D 3.1, any ideas for a fix?

I have started on remaking the textures, but it is a major undertaking since the original textures are so low res and have very little details (except for some decals which are attached to the front fuselage and intakes. Looked up the old FS9 Alphasim Draken and texture wise it is far more advanced. Don't get me wrong, it is a great model, but a lot of work to bring the textures up to standards.

It would be sort of dumb to have an aircraft which had got a new grey low vis air superiority scheme to be polished as it would reflect light much better. But for a warbird I suspect it would be a lot easier to keep clean.

A question for the crowd about the J35F:
If I understand correctly so was the intake pylon stations not standard on the F-series, but was retrofitted as part of the J-update program. The forward pylon also start to show up on Finish 35S and J35FS models at around the same time. Does this mean the pylon actually was a feature build into the F, but not used in service before on the J?

This is obvious, the fact is that many years ago I saw a real Austrian Draken at Ghedi AB (Italy) and I remember very well the semigloss skin, it was an operational bird not polished for an airshow.
IMHO line-aircraft were both matt and semigloss. ( except airshow-prepared Aircraft). Anyway thank you for the work you are doing !!!

Menef, most if not all metal have a certain level of shine when viewed in the correct angle with the light source, even when painted in matt paint. I don't know the Austrian Drakens enough to say, but generally I don't think many operational fighter aircraft have a semi gloss paint.

Even if someone managed to apply a 'true' matt paint to a plane it wouldn't take too much airtime before it was no longer matt.

Dave

Having worked on the BM Draken for nearly 2 weeks now with Jens-Ole and Henk, I've come to understand that there were more variations of the aircraft both in the Swedish and export versions than I ever thought, as well as variations in armaments and load-outs. Unlike other export customers, the Danish requirement was for tactical strike and reconnaissance so it was substantially different externally as well as internally. Trying to model each one would be a considerable piece of work so Henk has stuck to limited variations of Thomas Nillson's original definitive Swedish -J model. If we can get Thomas's permission we intend to upload what we can. But paints now exist for all the export models although mine (Austrian and, yes, Danish) are still WIP's. Here's my Danish one. Some way to go with further detail research and a semi-gloss spec file still to do. This is 351018, A-35XD A-018 from Esk. 725 before a recce nose was installed.

Are these the Finnish Air Force paintings
yet available for download somewhere?

Menef, most if not all metal have a certain level of shine when viewed in the correct angle with the light source, even when painted in matt paint. I don't know the Austrian Drakens enough to say, but generally I don't think many operational fighter aircraft have a semi gloss paint.

Wow, old thread revival! I was hoping for news from Thomas regarding a fix to the fuel system on the Draken (which would fix the inverted/roll fuel starvation issue) but the site has been offline for some time now. I wish I knew how to fix the issue but oh well, hopefully one day it will get fixed.

Umm...that's a feature, not a bug. I mean, why would you go out of your way to code something like this if the real thing didn't have it?

No, technically it is a bug because the way he has it programmed. The small center (booster) tank feeds the afterburner but it should refill from the mains and stay at a constant level under pressure so the engine isn't starved but he admitted it was off on this parameter. The issue I was having is that after using the AB, a simple roll beyond 90 degrees of bank would kill the engine even if the plane's attitude was in neutral or positive G. I've seen enough videos of the Draken to know they can do rolls and fly inverted with the AB engaged without having a flameout. If I knew what XML file in the model/panel was involved and what to do, I'd fix it myself but time is a factor.

Don't have the Draken installed, so I can't help.

To anybody looking for the bird, it's latest (and last?) iteration can be downloaded from here:

Nice aircraft. Just too bad everything in the VC is labelled in Swedish. :mixed-smiley-010:

The manual is in English so it's just a matter of reading it first and then go flying.

Hi Frank

My Synthetic ILS instrument is now uploaded and now appearing at the Simviation website.

I will create a separate thread here once it starts to appear at Flightsim , I decided to let you know here rather
than at the other thread ,

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php/112145-SAAB-J35-Draken-WIP-(New-Skin)

as , although I only tried to answer a query there I probably got carried away posting all those instrument shots ,
and as a consequence ran the risk of ' Hijacking ' that thread .

This is the instrument ,
" SYNTHETIC ILS - FOR EVERY RUNWAY AT EVERY AIRPORT in the Flight Simulator database "
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/attachment.php?attachmentid=63181&stc=1

Cheers
