I have both the VRS Superbug and TACPAC installed. I have scarcely used either of them, but I read something on the forums reference to a freeware addon being developed called FSX@War.
Can someone explain this further? And how far along in development is it? Thanks, NC

Basically, it is supplying the combat environment that FSX is lacking to rival DCS. Still in development as far as I know though.

Convoy&Carrier Planner (CCP) is a utility than runs with FSX@War
and spawns vehicle & ship convoys in Free Flight (or FSX Missions, as in video).
In video you may see most of the FSX@War military vehicles as also Captain Sim's
Weapon for FSX (the weapon solution I use for the planes that I'm flying).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBnzzONP4hQ
This is usage of the free "weapon pack4" inside FSX@War. Any FSX user is capable of
free falling bombing with this... (ie, independant of payware solutions).

Firing CS Weapon AGMs in FSX@War. Though FSX@War is meant for the TacPack,
it's not restricted to it.

CCP will be the first to be publicly available. Currently everything is closed beta tested.
The hole project is a Huge work that already has been made & you'll be astonished by what is capable of... As I am !...

Chief - I was having a similar conversation with myself. I have TacPac and Superbug and Mirage and A-10 AND DCS A-10. I know FSX pretty well and it functions well on my system, but don't know DCS A-10 well or other software that might do the job. I spent a couple hours over the weekend "re-learning" TacPac and Superbug and it was well worth it. TacPac and Superbug are updated since I last used them and work real well once you figure out trigger and a couple other shortcuts (like cntl-shft-2...turns on radar / weps screen). "Arm" after all that and you are ready to go after targets...or "spawn" drones.
TacPac works...use it!
I also got Steve's DX10 fixer and "tweaked" using it. Very good results if you want to use DX10. PM me if you have questions.

I have the both tacpack and cs weapon. And i think the both are good, however with cs weapon i have better gun shots and i can modify this as I like! also I can added different explosions and new guns real or fictional without any difficulty as this my old video (now i have big collection of guns and explosion models, sounds and effects. not uploaded yet) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l9ql-svaas
Also the DCS world is freeware, I tried it and still have it in my Steam, but really i don't like it in many angles

I'm following this subject since quite some time now and had no time yet to try either solution. My aim is directed towards WW2 weapon systems (guns, free fall bombs, dumb rockets, maybe even torpedoes). I gather that most systems are concerned with modern weapons. How is it with aforementioned WW2 types? Hanni, would CS be flexible enough to develop a "dumb" torpedo weapon? If so I'd love to use it on Black Cat missions against IJN shipping in the Solomons or Bismarck sea!
Cheers,
Mark

Thanks for the tips. I did the cntrl-shift 2, turned on weps screen. Have mapped guns trigger to control stick. I select GUNS from the screen, it's Armed, but the gun does not fire.......Pete

In the updates VRS made a big deal about mapping the triggers through TacPac manager. I just went to TacPac manager and looked at the default mapping and used that to get up and running. I have ONLY used the missile trigger on my keyboard and have not yet gotten guns to work. The missiles work pretty good (actually they are fun to fire). Let me know if you figure out guns.

Mark, check out the VRS forums. There is a user named Gibo that has adapted some TacPack to a couple of WWII aircraft.

Let me say that If so, CS Weapon is your best bet for many reasons (especially if you don't care about modern MFDs & electronics) :
1. They work with any plane of your choice
2. If plane has a default aim croshair, you can customize weapons to shoot using this for aiming
3. Much more cheaper but not "cheap".
4. Guns, Rockets, free falling bombs included
This is what I'm talking about & may interest you :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrSPwm781Fc
Not for the multiplayer though. Tacpack features must allready be included in a plane, otherwise it wont work. No such WWII plane I'm aware of or even modified by a user.
Of course, both Weapon solutions need SimObjects of the "Aircraft" type to be placed as Targets in your scenery for destruction ability.
By the way, is there a web page with fotos to have a look at your scenery projects ? Thank you.

Thanks, I'll have a look in all directions then.
My scenery development gallery is in my sig. The project called "JFAR" is the one I'm working on in the moment, which serves as test bed for an extensive update on the "Solomon 1943" scenery.

Developing new system of comportament of the weapons not included is out of my skill. but as someone have made free drop bomb i think torpedo can be done, hope someone do that!

I can't think of another add-on that has changed the face of FSX for the military flyer. I purchased CS Weps pack and thanks to the support of various modders, most of it works as advertised although to simply "dumb bomb" one has to make changes. The GUI is very under friendly to add weapons to any of your FSX aircraft, even the Air Trike. I only wish CS would have continued to add to the program (AAA,SAMs) and fix a few bugs. The forums are great source for .cfg mods to get a few popular WWII models spitting lead.
With TP, I can launch from the boat, track and kill AI or drones I inject, head over to a surface target that I find with the ATFLIR and kill it, all while avoiding some nasty SAM sites. Get gas from the tanker before that night trap (thanks to vLSO). I've had the Super Bug since FS9, it has continued to advance beyond the limits of FSX.
FSX@War will now add that missing mini-campaign like missions that most hard-core combat simmers are familiar with.

Interesting thread!
Does anyone here use CS Weapons with TrackIR?

I came up with this "torpedo" like thing, in about 2 hours of experimentation... I don't own a proper Torpedo SimObject model,
so I used a missile as "torpedo" instead. Though I fire it through CS Weapons, it cannot be considered a "real" CS Weapon since
it depends also in FSX Mission building for triggering destruction, while CS Weapons work in Free Flight and don't need missions (more
details in video description about this).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyy__E2VtjM
What Victory says about Superbag, TacPack & CS Weapons, stands very true (though I don't have the VRS experience).
On the other hand, personally (& many others) I have no interest of flying the F-18 since I'm a vintage aviation flyer mostly (up to
2nd generation jets).
So what someone may choose as an FSX weapon solution, depends primarily of what he wants to fly & how (single - multiplayer).
I know at least one virtual squadron that uses both, in order to "arm" the non-Tacpacked AirVehicles they use.
Now, from what I've concluded so far being actively in the Military FSX "part", is that people who fly FSX are not interested in Combat simming
in the Hardcore sense. This "audience" is already in BMS or DCS, ie native combat sims. With the arrival of F-18 in DCS & new maps (including USA maps also - smart move...)
the relative FSX audience will further shrink, I guess...
The simple truth is, that if you decide to "go Military" with FSX compared to a native Combat Sim, you need a looot of work just to keep
Military - Combat experience at an acceptable level, regardless the weapons you will choose (VRS or CS)... cause FSX was not hardcoded
for combat simming. It presents Multiplayer problems, luck of AIs of any kind, FPS problems with many Aircrafts, etc
So, in my point of you, if someone insists of doing so, has to be aware of the limitations & of what he's striving for.
The only strong point of FSX is the photoreal environment. Only this has not beaten yet by a Combat sim...
But that there will be a day when FSX will be comparable to native combat sims, for me it's hard to believe...

Here is a generic torpedo made with sketchup with singular explosion effect and sounds https://e-nautia.com/hanimichal/disk?f=1410000
so now please post the CSWeapon.xml entrance :mixed-smiley-010:

Wow, thanks, great stuff, I'm going buy CS weapons and try that next weekend.
I have an abundance of torpedos and ww2 bombs as well as rockets here, so 3d models are no problem. If any weapon would be missing I can design it in no time.
TacPac is no option right now because I exclusivly use P3D and as far as I could gather VRS-TP doesn't work with P3D yet in the non-commercial version, and maybe it never will.
Thanks for the inspiration, all of you!
Cheers,

Mark -
If your models of missiles, bombs, torpedos, etc are freeware and you don't mind, I'd like to include them in my distribution of objects that NEUWUC uses. I have about 20 missiles that I'm using right now, but there are hundreds of different weapons, so I had to assign different weapons to the same FSX objects. It would be nice to have more objects looking like they really do. If you would prefer to have folks get the models themselves (rather than through NEUWUC) I could post a link for them in the fsx-mirarmar.webs.com forum.
But I understand if you'd rather not - just say so. And thanks for moving are hobby a little closer to reality. :encouragement:

This is FSX@War :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXywGLdqoiw
Regardless if you use Tacpack, CS Weapons or the free Weapon Pack4, FSX@War calculates the damage
caused upon a target by a certain weapon, depending of :
-Weapon type
- Impact Proximity to target
- "Strength" of target
and adds appropriate effects as also destructed objects...
Works both in Free Flight as also in FSX Missions. You can search for more videos in YouTube (though not many).
