there is some good information here on what will be flying fire fighting duties in AU this coming fire season 2014/2015.

also a good video on CalFires first female helo pilot.they say hteyre first female pilot..must be because Dyna-corp hires and then contracts the fixed wing pilots to Calfire.

While it is a good read Dave one thing must be taken into account. On the 29th of November the state of Victoria goes to a state election. The incumbent party (LNP, which is a combination of what you call Republicans and Tea Party people) is in such a bad position they look like getting their arses well and truly kicked.

Because of this threat what we call the "pork barrel" has come out. In previous years the state has relied on Aircranes from New South Wales when needed. This being an election year they LNP are spending big time.
