Everybody from New England knows about Lake Winnepisaukee. If you travel to it by Route 11 you can't miss Laconia Airport. Jim Cook has done a great job in modeling the airport and has included the runway extension to allow jets.
Now I find it an ideal place to fly to from Plum Island. Takes maybe a half hour and the scenery is good. Head north to Pease then pull a left turn and head NNE to KDAW Skyhaven airport. You can pick up Route 11 at Rochester. Follow it along until you come to Alton Bay. The only FAA sanctioned airport that exists when the ice is frozen. A few miles beyond that is Laconia, Just a beautiful airport.
I thank you Jim, where ever you are. I tried to e-mail you but your address was wrong.

I'll have to get it. Thanks, HD, for the HU.

My first solo cross country back in '75 was Keene to Sanford to Laconia and back to Keene. Still remember it.

cheers,

File Description:
Here is an improved version of the stock Laconia Municipal Airport. This airport had a lot of issues with buildings on roads or in the water, boundary fences in the water, etc. I fixed those issues and adjusted and added aprons, roads and taxiways to more closely match reality. I replaced most default buildings and added additional buildings. I added the parking lot and static vehicles, aircraft, light poles, and other filler objects. The runway at Laconia was lengthened in real life and I corrected the length in FSX. It was lengthened primarily to accomodate biz jets of race teams and others attending the NASCAR events at nearby Loudon, NH. Laconia Airport is located on scenic Lake Winnipesaukee and not far from Weirs Beach. Laconia hosts a week-long motorcycle rally each June, usually a week after the Americade Rally in Lake George, NY.

Would anybody know how I could get in touch with Jim Cook?

OT.... But I used to go to the Harley event there, and visited that small airport several times....

It ain't small any more. Jim left off the "Lily pond" at the west end of the runway. Float planes land there for gas and a $100 buck hamburg.

Thanks for that HD...Its been a few for me...Like 20 or more years...LOL

20 years is a long time. The bike events at Weirs Beach is bigger than ever. The NASCAR racetrack at Louden is sold out at every event. The small roads of New Hampshire are being overloaded with the "Life Free or Die" motto. They don't require helmets on motorcycles.

YEA.. Several years ago I sold a Vacation home I had there in Charlestown NH.. The roads were full of Green Tags and helment less riders then ......

I did go to Weirs beach for lunch on closing for old times sake...My wife left her bank card there and we had to return the next day to get it...We were out of time..I wanted to visit the ol airport but it didn't happen....

HD, I'm right here. Glad you like Laconia. I don't know why your email wouldn't have gone through.

Do you have UTX? I use it and I have a body of water right at the end of Runway 8.

I'm currently working on Concord, NH and it should be done in a day or so.

I have most of Jim's stuff and they are really nice, he did KUKT for me and it really made the airport like it is.
Thanks again for that and all the ones you are doing.
all at Avsim.com.

I don't know from UTX. This is what I get at the 8 end of the runway. Plus there is no shopping center where the movie theatre and car parts are. It looks like Lebanon is out in the woods on my screen. No stop light at the eastern end of the runway. I guess I got to get me some UTX.
Jim, as long as your at it, why not make NASCARs other airport, Rochester's Skyhaven Airport. That's my old hang out before I moved to Newburyport. Dick Jackson's hangar at the end of the runway with his Waco , Sikorskys, Lockheeds and Navions would make a nice display.

Bob, you should find out about UTX. I think you'd love what it does for your part of the world... I can't imagine flying without it now.

Gee thanks Bill. Now if only someone would explain how you would get "UTX" I'd appreciate it. Hopefully it won't take all my social security payment to get it

Here ya go, Bob: http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=FL1-UXU-001

Remember, for that price you get the whole USA done up in much greater detail. It's a fantastic product.

$40 bucks puts it out of my league. That's more than I paid for FSX and that showed the entire world.

Bob, Bob, Bob. One copy of Plum Island costs 1/3 as much as all 25,000+ airports FS, too. It's all about what matters to you.

UTX is really essential for VFR flying, it provides accurate roads, railroads, streams, rivers, lakes, and coastlines.

HD, I'll take a look at Skyhaven.

Thanks Jim. I'm a Vermonter but for good scenery I'll cross the boarder to, lets see what's that states name? Boy I should know it, it's due East of me, Mmmmmm, Nope, completely skips my mind! :caked:

Well David, check out my Burlington International and Caledonia County airports if you haven't already. They're both in the Avsim Library.

Bill, I got my copy of Plum Island at the right price. wink, wink - nudge, nudge. When you're dependent on the Eagle crapping on you once a month then you decide very quickly what stuff is worth.
But even at $15 bucks, Plum Island is worth it and so is Laconia. I show my non-flying wife both airports and she recognises them right away.
Maybe Flight 1 has a layaway plan...

HDiver,

Just go get a copy of UTX. I recently purchased it and it GREATLY improves FSX!!!!! It's well worth the cost.

Just my opinion.
