Repaints needed...for WWI Aerocrate SPADs

I was wondering if anyone has repainted the Aerocrate SPAD S.VII and the SPAD S.XIII into the markings of Belgium?

If not, is one or more of our talented painters willing to do these wonderful machines up for us?

I am asking because I am trying my hand at designing a series of World War I missions built around the Belgian Air Service. The missions will start around 1916 and progress through 1918

I chose Belgium because every does France, Germany, United States and United Kingdom.

I really hope someone can help, even if they do quick generic repaints?

I don't have a SPAD but I do have 2 camels a BE2c and 2 nieuport 17s. I think I have a couple others.

I have 3 missions started and all of the aerodormes finished in bata format. I have one German aerodorme to finish the GSL on. That will round out Belgium.

I'm also doing the medals and screens for the Belgian nationality and pilots pages.

If you'd like a copy of what I have I'll send them to you. Its in various stages.

It would be nice to have someone to work with on them.

If you want just the WWI then go to the WWI repaint page in the library. No repaints for Belgium I'm afraid. Though my Camel Repaints are there.

Also have you seen Allens Hanriot HD1? Also a 1 1/2 strutter with Belgian skins.

I can send my Nieuport repaints if you send me your email. I have a couple of oldwheat's repaints that he did for me. They are for the Sopwith Pup in Belgian paint.

Good to see more CFS2/WWI involvement, and I like your project idea. I had done a generic Belgian repaint of Gary A's N17 some years ago. I only use MSpaint with solid colors, so it's not very fancy, but you are welcome to use it if you wish. Having read your post, and as I needed some painting practice with Windows7, I did a generic Belgian repaint of Gary's S7 model, as well. If it looks like something that you want to use, send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you the bmps.

I'm going to send you my repaints for the N17 and N23. Plus the BE2c and Sopwith Pup. In with them are new Air and CFG files. The BE2c is set to the Specs of the BE2d that the Belgians modified. I plan to have one made at some point in time.

In the Sopwith Pup folder there are 2 repaints. the texture.BelgeOW is Oldwheat's the other is the same but I added the Fuselage Roundel inplace of the blacked out British roundel that is in Oldwheat's.

In the Nieuport 23 folder I have added everything you need to make the Aerocrate N17V into the N23. you will have to rename the model from Nieup17V to Nieup23. This is the French Nieuport in case your wondering.

Do you have both Paints for the Strutter?

We need someone to make a Farman F40 for us. Then we will have all of the most used WWI Belgian aircraft.

We need the SPAD VII more then the XIII. The XIII was used more at the end of WWI. Belgium received the first VII's in 1917.

We could use some more Nieuport 11's. If your interested.

The intention of the project is to take you through the last two years of the war in the Belgian Air Service. Right now I am working on 1916 missions.

For these you will be either flying in the Nie.16 (and yes it would be nice to have a Nie.11 in Belgian markings) or the Pup. The initial missions will be lone patrols looking for German recon birds, but remember the Germans were assigning one or two fighters (mainly Fokker E.III) to each recon squadron to cover the low slow birds,so you will need to look above and below....

You will also be getting the idea of what it was like to fly those recon missions yourself. Got to love the BE2....pray there is one or two Sopwith Pups up there looking after you. If the flak doesn't get you then that occasional Halb D.II might be up there.

For both sides, 1916 saw the introduction of the first true fighter squadrons, with introductions of new tactics. The day of the lone wolf was numbered, now the new fighter squadrons flew fighter sweeps. These were flown with two or three flights of four or five aircraft. Each flight at a different altitude and trying to cover each other. The object of the sweep was to draw each others fighters into a massive dog fight. and to simply be able to murder those planes that were still flying lone wolf patrols.

So you will go from the lone wolf having to learn to fly as part of a flight in this series of flights over Belgian lines in 1916

A little note on the Belgian Pups... After Bloody April the Belgian Air Service required that all Observation Aircraft be escorted by at least 2 scout/fighters. The 3rd Observation Squadron bought them to support the Farman F40s. Normal flight would have been a Farman and one or two Pups. Though Rare occasions there could have been three Pups or two Farmans. There were only about a dozen or so Pups in all. Once the Camels came to Belgium they were replaced.

The Nieuport 11s and 16s were used until they were replaced by the Camels and Hanriots. It seemed to be a Pilot preference as to what was flown. The Nieuport 17/23s were added to the squadrons but did not fully replace the N11/16s. Only damaged and unflyable ACs were totally replaced. The SPADs were mostly used by one squadron it seems.

Belgian Pilots for the most part didn't cross the lines. They flew more defensive missions. Though the Observation squadrons did help support the British Troops in all of the battles in northern Flanders. I think it was Mid 1917 that more flights were crossing the lines. They were heavily involved in the advance thought Belgium in 1918 before the end of the war.

They did alot of balloon busting. At least Willy Coppens did "ALOT" of balloon busting. They had N11/16s armed with rockets until Incendiary round were used.

I also have a setup for the trench line. That way you can make missions and not worry about redoing the front every time.

I can also send the UIRES that I have finished. Its not complete yet but maybe it will give us a starting point.
