What is the appendage on the right wing leading edge of a Douglas TBD-1 Devastator? It is circled in the attachment. My reference material does not identify it. I know it is not a landing light. Thanks in advance, Paul

According to this cutaway (https://www.flickr.com/photos/76270395@N02/13961898376/in/photostream/lightbox/), it's the oil cooler.

Paul:

Yes, Oil Cooler Intake. Look on your DC-3; Douglas did the same thing on both of the DC-3 engines.

Thanks, all. I thought it probably was an oil cooler, but, like I said, none of my references came out and said.

Best, Paul
