ESPN will probably always reserve the NASCAR Cup race commenting to famous drivers who have won championships, which is understandable. That means Ricky Craven will probably never call a Cup race on ESPN, and that is too bad, IMO. I love the way he calls the Nationwide races, as he doing now in Iowa. He seems to assume that most of the viewers know something about NASCAR and racing. Even if that assumption might be wrong, it means he isn't patronizing, and it means he imparts knowledge about racing that you don't get from Rusty Wallace and Dale Jarrett, both of whom I admire, just for the record. Craven just inserts interesting tid-bits and "inside" driving stuff that we don't seem to get from the others. And I'm not saying this just because he's a fellow "Maine-iac" ... :)
