View Full Version : Screen Shot question!

Don't know if this is the proper 'forum' to post this question in - if not then I request an 'admin' to move it ...

I'm trying to do a screen shot - if possible - of 3 specific airplanes sitting (parked) together on the ramp.

Is there a program and / or a way that something like that can be accomplished?

Any help / ideas would be appreciated..

Thanks;

Bill D.

Hey Bill,

If your familiar with FS Recorder, that's the way to go. Just set up a primary flight parked where you want it and record it giving yourself the length of time you need to "pose" the other two. Works pretty well, I used it just for such.

Good tip. But, the devil is in the details. I have messed with FSRecorder, and is a very friendly, although complicted sometimes, due to myriad of features. But once you become familiar with it you won't be able to stop using it. If you make videos, this is a great tool.

You have to be aware of 'time' when recording. So you give yourseflf, say 5 minutes total to move EACH of the 3 ac to ramp for that screenshot. What you do is record #1 going from point 'A' to point 'B' (ramp). But (THIS IS IMPORTANT) sit there until the 5 min time is up-you need to give yourself TIME to move the other 2 ac). Then load #2 ac, and playback the #1 (replay), then record #2 going from point 'A' to point 'B' (you will see the #1 ac so follow it. Park both side by side. WAIT until 5 mins is past. Then stop replay. Then load ac #3, and playback #1 and #2 recording (as AI) and now all 3 ac are 'in picture'. Record the playback and #3 as they follow each other to ramp.

When the 3 ac are parked how you want them, pause the sim and do 'Print Screen' to place screenshot to clipboard, then paste into IrFanView, or Paint to crop and save. Done. PM me and I will email with you to get you started. It's a brain buster to do, but only because we can't wrap our heads around what exactly it does (and does so well). Don't even try to 'understand' or 'explain' it all, just learn to 'use it' (like we use electricity). And installing FSRecorder is not hard. But if new at this type of thing I can help there too. Cheers.

As an avid user of FSRecorder for screenshot purposes, in addition to what's mentioned above, you can use time acceleration while recording in order to quickly record for the length of time you desire. For air-to-air shots, "posing" the aircraft while in slew mode and recording while in that mode does make things easier, rather than trying to track a moving flight and your camera angles at the same time if you are taking a still shot rather than a movie.

Be advised that if you have AI traffic active, using time acceleration over 4X causes your AI to reload in the session, which may cause a delay as you wait for the progress bar to tick over.

Additional info is available here, but I'm not sure if the developer is active any more:

Thanks everyone for the tips !!

I probably won't try it for a day or 2 due to RW stuff and if I have any issues, you'll hear me screaming!! lol

If you want it simple and without using third party applications, just set up the scene in the sim, press CTRL and PRINT on the keyboard simultanously, open the Windows Paintbrush app, press CTRL and V (paste) and that's it. In Paintbrush you can do some simple things like cropping and resizing.
That's in fact how I do all my screenshots.

His 'problem' is that first he has to get the 3 totally different ac together for the 'group' shot. FSRecorder is one way to have 3 different ac grouped (parked next to each other) for a screenshot. No other way, I don't think.

Just a tip, you don't have to do the whole CTRL thing. Simply hit the 'V' key in the game and FX will creat .BMP screen shots in a "C:\Users\NAME\Pictures\Flight Simulator X Files" folder as fast as you can click

Mark:

I have a 'screen shot' program I've used for a long time that takes my 'single' shots HOWEVER Chuck hit the 'nail on the head' - I'm trying to get a single shot of 3 different aircraft together...

I made this picture...
10472
...by creating a custom afcad and traffic file, they are all AI.

This way I was able to move my plane around to get it framed the way that I wanted.

Took a bit of time, turned out the way I wanted.

cheers,
Lane

Pain in the butt the first time !!! lol I found tho that taking a pic like this - the 'last' airplane 'in' should be the middle one !!

I went a little crazy using FSRecorder promoting Manfred's Dak, but if only your system can handle it...
