Any ideas what is causing this? Appears with both the default AFCAD and a custom one I made with ADE, so maybe its some landclass or mesh problem?

My 2ct.

These are the boundaries of the airport background flatten polygon. They a have special rendering priority and override the water poly.

In your custom version you can draw it so it does not cross the shoreline or edge of the island, there is no need to extend it beyond these lines into the water.

In the default version this is simply a design error!

Ah, Mark - a real expert - thanks!

Funny, I don't see an airport poly in ADE for either the default (pictured) or in my custom AFCAD (modded from freeware by John Loney done for FS9 at avsim for 0B8, Fishers Island).

I do know how to make an add an airport poly in ADE so will try that next. Also, before my recent new rig and reinstall, this outline did not appear so makes me thing I have a "remnant" addon landclass (eg for the New England region) somewhere which I probably now will never to be able to find, LOL!

A landclass definition does not produce this. It just covers the land with a texture and autogen.

You also have to exclude the default / custom airport with a special exclusion polygon, but I'm sure you did that! And you have to assign your custom airfield a higher priority if it sits on top of another custom airfield.

Cheers,
Mark

This is strange. I have looked for the airport backgrond poly/excludes in ADE but can't find or see them. So I then identified and located the default airport file and disabled it. The shoreline still traces an airport boundary but I am stumped why that would be with no default or custom airport files active in the scenery library? If I were to ADD a new poly in ADE, would that override/overwrite this error?

Make a small airport background exclude within the boundary with ADE and create a new airport background and it will fix the coastlines.

OK, thanks, just the instructions I was looking for (and think I can follow . .)!

Hmm. Still there. Michael, in ADE at the top there are two buttons - a green odd shaped "add polygon" and a yellow square "add exclusion rectangle." Do I use the yellow square first, to add the airport background exclude and then the green poly to add the airport background (this is what I did do)?

LOL, ok, get rid of what you had before and then open up the original AFCAD. Right where the light gray apron is, to the back of it, right inside the airport background add a small green polygon. give it the properities of "exclude general -airport background".

Now pick the green polygon again and click/draw around the runways, this will be your new airport background (stay away from the exclude you placed). And under properties pick - "airport background and whicheever flatten and exclude autogen you want". This will give you a new area around the runways with no autogen poking thru or flickering runways because the area isn't flat.

Hmmm, that doesn't look like a shoreline to me, but it's hard to tell from the screenshot. It looks more like a terrain texture/stepping problem cause by the default flatten. If you provide the ICAO code, I will take a look on my install.

It probably is because I had the same issue when I checked it and after removing the airport background/flatten, all was normal and I am not used to coastlines fixing themselves like that, LOL.

Point is, what I suggested in my last post fixed it on my end.

Will give it another go. The ICAO is 0B8, Elizabeth Field, Fishers Island, NY. Be interesting to hear/see what your default airfield file looks like.

Hi Michael,

Agree completely, shorelines NEVER fix themselves. LOL! Sorry if I made it sound like your fix did not work... was just trying to clarify that it is a airport background issues, not 'shorelines' per se. (Maybe I had 'shoreline fixation' LOL?) Your solution does indeed correct the issue.

One thing I did not see you mention, which might complicate things for expat, is the requirement that the airport background exclude intersects with at least one boundary of the airport background (i.e. - cannot be contained within it). Or is that no longer required anymore?

expat - great location. perfect for a flight down from 5B2. :)

cheers guys

Ah HA !!

Somethings happening with this (Michael's method). There is a bit of rogue coastline still sticking out and I need to hack back the vegetation but its progress . .
