If there is interest, I would be happy to make the job easier with any mods, or by supplying the gmax source. Just let me know. :-)

Beautiful aircraft Milton. :encouragement:

The initial conversion seems to come off without any major glitches. Only the usual texture conversions, airfile, gauges and such.

9068

Is it ok to upload what I have so far?
Then possibly others can finish detailing it to CfS2 specs.

Thanks Again Milton,
Dave

Ok then,

Just uploaded a quick and dirty conversion of the Xp-47J. It still needs Cfs2 gauges added and some minor tweeks to the dp file.
She'll fly just fine with an air file by Gramps and a close fitting damage profile from the same.

Sorry it's half baked, but I have one very important thing to do today. Go fishing. A cold front is coming thru and the conditions are perfect for some rock bass. :onthego:

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - American

Description: Partial conversion of Milton Shupe and Teams XP-47J

The textures in this folder are already converted for use in cfs2, contact points dampening ratio set to cfs2 standards, and tail wheel set.

Barrowed and used files are:

> Aifile by Anthony Sulinger

> Dp file by Anthony Sulinger and Krazy

> Prop texture by Kristof Malinowski

What this package is in need of:

! Gauges in both the 2d panel and virtual cockpit. ===> Use Cfgedit
! Adjustments in the dp file for weapons locations and the removal of 1 set (2) of .50 caliber guns. ===> Dped
! Adjustments off the gun muzzle flash. ===> Dped

This is a quick and dirty conversion so there may be other adjustments needed. ;-)

Enjoy, Dvslats

That's a generous offer! Every little bit helps.
But my request would be the mother load of all requests. An air file. :dread:

One that gives this bird the performance it had at escort altitude. Numbers would have to be skewed since CFS2 really does not represent turbo-charged aircraft well.

It's your call of course. I realize this is a time consuming task. :uncomfortableness:

Well, we will take it from here and see what evolves. :ernaehrung004:

Dave,

I was actually just referring to updating the upload at SOH. But I guess I can work on an airfile. Can you provide some specs?

Just curious if the attached .air file and aircraft.cfg will work for you. I modified it very slightly using Jerry Beckwith's Airwrench and saved it as a CFS2 air file.

Anyone wish to try it?

Otherwise, you can get the specs out of these two files if you wish to build your own.

I already converted it to CFS2. I think you give this plane sources to AF Scrub!

Hello Milton,

I've been trying to convert your othr XP-47, but can't fix the animation, and the landing gear refuses to extend and stays locked in 45 degrees position.
Could you help and find a solution to that?

I also transfered to Dvslats a modified DP file:

Moving along...was able to remove the ordinance and keep the main wing pylons. Now CFS2 ordinance can be added via the damage profile.

Still have to try your air file Milton. That will be after a bit of .

Dave,

I would have been happy to provide a version that eliminated the munitions with or without hardpoints, a corrected tail wheel, rudder, landing light etc. All you have to do is specify what you want. Can also provide in FS8 or FS9 formats. Thanks for all your efforts on this. :-)

Hi Milton,
That's a very generous offer, but I'm a bit hesitant to ask because of the unknown work involved. :icon_question:

Well, there are two items.

1.) Can you remove the Crash_check from the model? It conflicts with the damage profile in Cfs2 and causes it to CTD. It can be removed with a hex edit, though a bit time consuming this way.

2.) The control stick and rudder pedals in the vc are stuck in the left and left position. Cfs2 does not recognize lever_stick_fore_aft, lever_stick_l_r, or lever_pedals_l_r as an animation. I'm not sure what can be done here.
Others have applied an edit through scasm with success but I never knew the exact details. But a neutral position would be just fine.

That's it. Otherwise everything else is perfect.

Thank You, Dave

PS: Maybe these links may be of some help? It sort of bible for this sim. Along with Ivan Hsu's converter.

Dave,

I'll have a go at it today.

Things I think you might want are:

Prop pitch animation removed and props set to around 30 degrees
Landing light animation: animate with gear up/down
Center (tail) wheel: convert to rudder animation based?
Flaps: convert from percent to standard flaps
Joystick: use elevator and aileron animations
Remove rockets and guns but leave hardpoints (rockets and bombs?)
Remove trimtab animations and set to neutral
Cowl flaps: okay? or set to closed?

Also, I can export these as FS2002 or FS2004. Your choice, or both.

Be happy to do the xp47j, h, and 72 if desired.

Wow! Yes, that would be great!

To edit your post, these are the problematic issues,

Prop pitch animation removed and props set to around 30 degrees
Landing light animation: animate with gear up/down
Joystick: use elevator and aileron animations
Remove rockets and bombs but leave the two large wing pylons for drop tanks and bombs which can be added via Cfs2 weapons profile.
Cowl flaps are ok, as is.

XP47J and if you have the time, XP47H

Export as FS2002 would be just fine.

You're an ace Milton. Myself and other Cfs2 dwellers would luv to have this historic aircraft in this sim.

Thank You, :excitement:

Okay, I am on it :-)

I know some here have gmax abilities so if the gmax source is needed, it will be provided.

EDIT: Just curious, do the VC prop, throttle, mixture lever animations need to be removed?

Also, does the pilot's head animation need to be removed? Or is the stationary position okay?

You want the guns removed, correct?

EDIT2: Attached is the "H" model for your testing. Let me know what else needs to be done please before I move on to the "J".

It looks like the spinner hub is a little transparent.

That was fast. ;)
Downloaded your new models and I'll run them through the process when I return back home.

The vc prop is ok.

Throttle, mixture lever animations are ok also, they're just static.
And also no need to remove guns.

Appreciate it Milton,

Hey Milton?

Could you take the file you attached and export them Fs 2004?
There's a little bug with the engine cowl flaps after running them through mdlc and edits will not take.

I really hadn't checked out the 72 model before. That's one intimidating Machine. :tyrannosaurus:

Any animations possible in Cfs2 are there including those pesky little cowl flaps. :encouragement:

Great add-on to the list of interesting planes to fly - I'd hurried to snatch it. Thank you for this beauty.

Hey Guys,

Hope y'all have some fun with this bird. It really is a nice model.

BTW, you may not know it but you are also the, how would you say, beta testers. Besides me. :playful:
Seriously though, if anyone finds something that is not right, please post it.
I always feel like "was every thing there?" every time a file is uploaded. :stupid:

Thanks, Dv

Great Model, flies beautifully.

Thank you to all involved for the obvious amount of hard work to bring this lovely model to fruition .

All we need to do now ---is to find some enterprising individual who can build the Bloch MB-157.(The Holy Grail of Early WWII Aircraft).

Once again --thanks to all for the XP-47J.

Regards,

Thanks guy,s , a new bird to play with ,

There's never enough Sarg. :chuncky:

Ok, back at it again. Looking towards a late weekend upload. Pending any unforeseen. Pretty satisfied with the performance. With a R-4360 engine, the rate of climb should be like a home sick angel. (A quote of Richard Bong's)

Just the ordinance loads remain. I'm not sure of the type of drop tanks to use. :icon_question: Here's one option. Dbolt's P47_150gal_drop.

Any opinions?

Thank you for those Milt.

Looks like the choices are between 75, 150, or 165 gallons. The ones in the picture are the 165's.

BTW, the 20 mm pylon mounted cannon, pretty interesting. Never saw that one before. The predecessor of the gun pod you might say.

Well, Thanks Again,
Dave

Cough!Hack! Cough!

Ahem! Phew! Excuse me but this thread is so old I breathed-in dust when I opened it!

This post is aimed at Dave or Morton or anybody who might know.

I have been updating and playing around with my Republic P-47 hangar recently.

The process involves going through the AC packages along with their related skin packs and fleshing-out the aircraft.cfg file titles and descriptions so that they more fully describe the personal/locational details of each AC in its various skin versions.

WRT Dv_XP_47J package let me say first of all that the AC is a great looking AC and behaves very nicely in the air. No worries along those lines.

However, the descriptive details and so on are a tad, well, on the thin side. :^)

Am I right in thinking that very few if any of these AC were ever actually flown in active service and therefore the textures included in the pack are most likely purely fictional? Or were they actually active duty AC?

The textures included are the default"Olive Fights Back" texture and three others: 73 OTU; Duxford Eagle; and SEAC.

The only title included in the aircraft.cfg file is the not too informative "title=XP-47J". :^)

I don't mind digging around and coming up for historical details for actual squadron and serial number markings but I'd rather spare myself the effort if this plane never went into production and never actually flew on active service.

If that's the case, then I will give them titles such as;
title=Republic XP-47J Superbolt "Olive-Fights-Back"
title=Republic XP-47J Superbolt "73 OTU" - I think this is 73rd Operational Training Unit, RAF, Fayid-Egypt, Autumn1944. No XP-47J attached
title=Republic XP-47J Superbolt "Duxford Eagle" - I think the 78th Fighter Group (P-47s and P-51s) was stationed at Duxford during the war called themselves the Duxford Eagles. Don't think any XP-47Js were in the mix.
title=Republic XP-47J Superbolt "SEAC" - Pretty sure this one is attached to RAF SEAC (South East Asia Command?) 1944-45. Need to come up with a passable squadron and group number. But again no XP-47J attached.

Anyway, guess what I am asking is were any of these skins actually ever a working skin for an actual serving XP-47J?

Thanks,
MR

Thanks BC.

Yeah, I had also seen basically the same write-up at a couple of other websites.

However, no matter. After doing some more research I believe I will go ahead and pretend that the XP-47J did see service- this is a simulator after all, and re-title the 4 AC included in the pack:

title=Republic XP-47J "Superbolt" "Olive Fights Back" 84-FS 78-FG 8th-AF Duxford1943-45
title=Republic XP-47J "Superbolt" 73rd Op-Training-Unit RAF Fayid-Egypt Autum1944
title=Republic XP-47J "Superbolt" 82-FS 78-FG 8th-AF Duxford-AB 1943-45
title=Republic XP-47J "Superbolt" 134-S RAF-SEAC Arakan-Burma 1943-45

Based on research into the squadron markings and so forth.

Again thanks for taking the time to supply the link.

That's what makes it so much fun, eh?

While we are at it, here are screenies of all four pretend versions of the XP-47J. Nice looking rigs, eh?

Thanks Dave, Milton and everyone else concerned!

A few screenies of Dave and Milton's Republic XP-72 "Ultrabolt"-

The first 2 show the default skin which turns out to be that of a Douglas A-1 Skyraider (Unit ID: TT-314) belonging to the 602nd AIR-COMMANDO-SQUADRON, 34th-Tactical-Group, Vietnam-Thailand 1966-1969

The second 2 show the included Viet Nam Air Force skin. It seems to be taken from some non-specific unit of the Viet Nam Air Force, most likely also a A-1 Skyraider, identified only by a partial hull number of 42072.

These two packages, the XP-47J and the XP-72, are both really nice packages. Very robust! Thanks to all involved.

Cheers,
MR

Okay BC, where did that skin come from??? I want it!

Is it a convert from Milton Shupe's 2014 "Republic XP-72 Interceptor" pack for FS9- xp72.zip?

Thanks very much BC,

Just noticed it in my inbox. I get her loaded up and have some fun! :biggrin-new:

In the meantime, a shot of an XP-47J from RAF-SEAC locking horns with a wayward Ki-67 "Peggy"s near Sagan Airfield in the Western New Guinea.

Cheers,
