Hi, Guys!

After spending some time away from stick & rudder (quoting Mark Twain: "Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated"), I think it's time to get back on the track!

In March I bought a new rig and just was curious how good old FS9 would run with it.
I was a little disappointed, because my thoroughly migrated FS9 installation from my old XP machine just seems the same.
But then I went back to the shelf to look for my FSX DVD (still curious...):
Holy macaroni!
With all sliders maxed in FSX, this was a complete new world!

Next step was to push it even further:
OrbX NZSI got installed, first flight was scheduled from Milford Sound.
Once I got my dropped jaw re-adjusted (what a difference to FS9!), I decided to enter this simulated world again.
But now on the dark side!

And here's my first attempt to handle a FSX repaint:

http://abload.de/img/goose2mtruz.jpg (http://abload.de/image.php?img=goose2mtruz.jpg)

http://abload.de/img/goose3nbqu7.jpg (http://abload.de/image.php?img=goose3nbqu7.jpg)

http://abload.de/img/goose5qjran.jpg (http://abload.de/image.php?img=goose5qjran.jpg)

This is of course the OZx Grumman Goose Redux. Since the graphic editor I'm still used to (PaintShopProX) wasn't able to handle the 4096x4096 HD textures, the main textures were done in 2048x2048. I'm pretty aware that Jon Murchinson already did the MOUNT COOK "DFC" for the FSX stock Goose, so I decided to depict the 1975's appearance with the Lily on the fin.

More about ZK-DFC (and other Geese in NZ service):

http://rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/12018/goose-dfc-mt-cook-service
http://nzcivair.blogspot.de/2012/12/i-remember-when.html

Still fiddling on some details, I'll drop a note once the paint is released on OZx first (with respect to their repaint policy).

Cheers,
Markus (resurrected).

Hey Wild Bill I've been preaching it since December 2006! Build or buy a rig the right way, with the right components and FSX just sings...well...er...FLYS!:applause:

I have loved the Orbx addons and the incredible scenery just makes you want to fly all day...of course, who could afford to do that even on a computer? Great pics Amigo:encouragement:

I did 4096 'hi res' paints for Tim Conrad's A12A Avenger...in PSP6 .... and didn't strike issues until the paintkit I was generating got to about 80 layers....eventually out of mem handling. [it's 32bit].

Had a freebie PE2 [Photoshop Elements 2.0] also 32bit....handles 'BIG' psd files better...largest I got to so far was 492meg [close to half a gig]...;)

It looks very nice for a civilainized JRF. But I'm dying for somebody to make a Goose like the ones I remenber before WW II flying out of Salem Winter Island USCG base.
The pontoons are fixed in place and they don't use big spinners. Can't somebody make one as they really existed. It's a bad as these PBYs running around with no nose turrents and pretending there still in the U.S. Navy.

Thank you for this warm welcome, gentlemen!

My old rig (now serving as XP backup) got quite dated, since I bought it seven years ago.
No surprise that the current 3.8 GHz quad core processor with 4 gigs of RAM and a contemporary GeForce GTX 750 Ti, running on Win7 64bit can handle things a little faster and smoother!

Yep: PaintShopProX (32bit) actually runs out of memory when trying to open a 221 MB multi-layered PSD file. I can open and even edit it with my Photoshop CS2, but over the years, I got accustomed to the easy-to-use PSP...

What they said.
Welcome back to a whole new simulation experience.
You'll find that your repaints really pop with the resolution advantage.

It is great to have so much information about a repaint. Usually the readme just gives installation instructions. Thanks.

It is great to have so much information about a repaint.

Thanks for the appreciation!
Researching on a specific paint can sometimes be the most interesting part of the whole repaint job, so sharing the resources with the communitiy seems quite logical to me.

@ Jankees:
I have to admit that (not for the first time...) I've been orientating on the bar raised by one of your repaints!
The texture mapping of this bird - inherited from the stock Goose - is sometimes quite weird. Assigning all of the bits & pieces to the model has taken some time.
For the final release, the air deflectors (?) at the aft exits received their paint too. To the painter's delight, it's slightly different scaled from the rest of the fuselage, but a test template turned out to be helpful once again:

Upload to OZx was done on Friday, including some uploading trouble:

Hope it will be available soon...

Cheers,

Something is still bad. The file in the download button is dummy.zip with nothing but 3 dot inside, 155bytes.

Sorry, folks!

Seems like the upload is messed up.
I've sent a ticket to the OZx file manager hoping to get it fixed.

Nothing more I could do from here...
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Cheers,
Markus.

Anyone know if the Mount Cook repaint specific for the OZx HD Goose Redux is available anywhere currently ?

I did a major FSX overhaul last week and among other things reinstalled OZx Goose. I had a couple of repaints spared but round up the usual suspects, avsim, flightsim. com and SOH. If you don't find Mt. Cook I should have it.

Hi William,

So far I have come across the Mt. Cook paint done for the original Goose without the new HD textures and bumps depicted in the HD Redux 2048x2048 version by Markus, above.

I will check a few more spots, if I can't find it, I'll let you know here.

Thank-you, for your kind offer,

Milan .......

I found the Mt. Cook files for the default FSX Goose, but, surprisingly, I don't have Markus' version for the "REDUX" version. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I'd also be keen to get a copy of the Mount Cook livery for the
OZx HD Goose Redux.

I used to hear 'DFC' regularly back in the early 80's

Pete.

Hi William,

I'm afraid I'm having no luck finding the OZx Redux HD version that Markus did for the Goose as depicted in this thread.
With OZx gone, I think we lost a lot of their great repaints. That's a shame.
I would certainly appreciate having this copy somehow.

Thank-you,
Milan ....

I have Markus Hellwigs skin, does someone have contact with him so we could upload it here? He prohibits uploading only to payware sites...
