Just a question and a suggestion: The aircraft vibrates while on the ground, engines off. Actually it isn't just the airplane, the entire screen vibrates, does anyone else see that? It would be great to have the Radar as a pop-up. I thought I would do that myself, but apparently the keys are programmed in the mdl as there is no texture for the artwork as far as I can tell. Beautiful airplane though, easy to hand fly and just has a nice feel to it. Another masterpiece by Rob!!

One other question Rob. . . .is there any chance that this airframe could be modified to become a "SaberLiner"? The exterior looks very close and with the horizontal stab lowered it would have the outward appearance of a Saberliner. I realize it's never "that" easy, especially when considering that while it may "look" close to a Saberliner, it may take much more to modify it than to just start from scratch, and it's just a question, nothing more. Thanks.

Rob - had a fly yesterday - was superb.

Like Ed said, flies so smoothly - a real winner. Have never heard the Viper previously, so that's a new unique sound that added to the novelty of having a DH 125 in the sim for the first time ever.

All in all - a lovely bird, from a different genre that has been less developed - and very much enjoyed.

Take care,

DL

Hello falcon,
I know just what you are saying about the "Sabreliner", I suppose it is from about the same era as the "125", not sure when that one first flew though.
To alter the "125" would be a complete rebuild from the ground up but it would make a very nice project!

RobR

ps not seen the vibration problem but will have a look into it.

Thanks for answering Rob. . .kinda what I figured, lol. I have had at least one other person verify a "vibration" of their screen when sitting with engines off. . . .but some who also don't see it....A gremlin perhaps, lol

Mine doesn't vibrate so I don't know if this applies or not. Years ago I had a couple of projects that "vibrated" on the ground engines on or off. I looked closely at the screen and it appeared everything was oscillating in yaw. I increased the yaw MOI in the aircraft.cfg file and that took care of it. Don't know if this is it, but I thought it was worth a mention.

Best, Paul

Hello Paul,
Just had a look at that and you are quite right, I had a play around with the MOI section and came up with the following settings.
I hadn't noticed this vibration on my computer but there was definitely a small amount of movement when I looked closely.
Anyway, if you set the MOI values as below all will be just fine.
Thank you Paul.

empty_weight_roll_MOI=50000
empty_weight_pitch_MOI=50000
empty_weight_yaw_MOI=70000
empty_weight_coupled_MOI=0.00000

Ah, thank you for these new values of MOI, now cancel the vibrate I had too!:applause:
it also seems to me that the front gear have not a compression, for braking it seems not to sink!
However thank you for this excellent work!

I would like to say nice work and the last De Havilland design. I have a major snag in that when I load the aircraft it loads correctly with no textures or graphics missing and in a cold n dark state (my standard flight start situation) the aircraft proceeds to literally bounce about going left and right up and down like a bit of a jig. I can start the engines and with crash detection off get airborne and it seems to behave normally but will not stop still on the ground, any ideas? Never seen this before with any other sim model.

Thanks for the DH/HS 125, Rob; very nicely done. Always thought the 125 was a very nifty little jet. Took G-ASSM on a hop from Wellington, NZ, down to Queenstown at about 12K (didn't want to go too tall) and 500 kts groundspeed at local sunset. Brought her in a bit too hot as I had to stand on the brakes but still managed to use up nearly all the runway. I'll learn... ;)

It would appear not despite my thinking it was part of my FSX package. Sigh! Not sure what to do now but how to get an addon for a defunct software product by MS that was only sold as a box product is beyond me at the moment. DH125 will have to be parked for a while. Thanks for the response.

Apart from the engines and equipment for navigation training, what's the difference between a regular HS.125 and a Dominie T1 anyway?

(Will upload tomorrow or on friday.)

1) Recommendation: cockpitsounds_v2.zip @ Avsim (adds "click" sounds to buttons and knobs)

2) I still get a shudder when using a camera fixed to the airplane (not the spot view!), even despite the higher MOI values. Something to do with the suspension per chance?

- EDIT:

HAH!

Go to [contact_points] in the aircraft.cfg and then replace the following lines (altered values are marked in bold italic):

point.0= 1, 16.40, 0.000, -6.60, 6181, 0, 0.864, 45.000, 0.100, 2.020, 0.56, 2.500, 3.000, 0, 300, 250
point.1= 1, -1.90, -4.90, -6.85, 6575, 1, 1.085, 0.000, 0.250, 0.800, 0.8, 3.000, 3.000, 2, 300, 250
point.2= 1, -1.90, 4.90, -6.85, 6575, 2, 1.085, 0.000, 0.250, 0.800, 0.8, 3.500, 3.500, 3, 300, 250

I've also added gear operation inhibition and gear damage speeds ("300" and "250" knots respectively).

Then change the MOI values back to Rob's original ones.

empty_weight_roll_MOI=10421.64000
empty_weight_pitch_MOI=34378.10000
empty_weight_yaw_MOI=30495.37000
empty_weight_coupled_MOI=0.00000

No more bouncing and still as light on the controls as ever!

Best regards, Bill

Bill,
The Royal Navy did have one HS125 which was fitted with a Sea Harrier radar nose and is pushing the realms of fantasy a bit too far to paint that one!
Rob did texture the engine mounts but they are sourced from a common texture (metal) that is used in several places on the model so changing the colours of the mounts is not possible.

Have just finished an Aussie paint for the second DH125 model which Rob has now released.

cheers, Peter W

Yup, it's not public and needs a bit of cleaning up before you can use it.

Rob is quick with sending a link though.

If you use GIMP (and if Rob approves), I can send you a cleaned up version in .xcf format as well.

Speaking of:
Thanks for making the engine nacelles use the same texture scale as the fuselage, Rob!
I was expecting a nightmare, but was pleasantly surprised when I only needed to move the stripes into the right position without tediously scaling them (like on the texture for the tip of the nose).

Its always worth having a look at the "readme" when installing new models.
Therein you will find this little paragraph

"PLEASE NOTE; this is just my interpretation of this beautiful old aeroplane and is not accurate, many liberties have been taken with the cockpit layout and gauges to make it more FSX friendly.
I am well aware of the models shortcomings and many inaccuracies so, PLEASE, no complaints, just delete it from your hard drive if you don't like it."

Hi there!

At very first I want to say a bit "Thank you!" to Robert and all the additional repainters for that wonderful old British plane! : ) But I'd like to ask how to make the cockpit glass textures more glass-appealing? It's to me like there's no glass in the frames, I mean you can see it but just very little, way to clear as I like it. I don't know if this is appearing only to me, but I would be glad and thankful, if anyone could help me, how to change the required texture, to make it more "glassy" and reflective.

Best regards!

Thanks for the U.S. paints, Peter!

Panel.cfg entry for my weather radar (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?88092-VSWXR-Very-Simple-Weather-Radar). Disable the original gauge00= line in [VCockpit01] in the panel.cfg by prefixing it with "//" (without quotation marks) and add the lines below after it:

//gauge00=fa-18!MFD, 1, 1, 1,1,1
gauge01=wx_radar!wx_radar_debug, 50, 50, 412,412

Yes for me.

Yes for me.

Is this an out-of-the-box installation?

Not sure why they don't work for me. Something to do with my default flight, maybe.

- Edit:

Found the culprit. Disabling the F/A-18's MFD somehow breaks the indicators.

Changed radar installation instructions accordingly.

- Editē:

My paints got uploaded to Flightsim. Someone hopefully finds some use for them.

Rob, thank you for a much needed add on! Are you planning on doing a Dominie T1 by any chance?

Hi there!

I don't know if this is appearing only to me, but I would be glad and thankful, if anyone could help me, how to change the required texture, to make it more "glassy" and reflective.

If I make the glass "glassy" I get complaints ,If I don't make it "glassy" I get complaints.
I don't like "glassy", the glass is just right for me, not too "glassy".

No T1 Chris, at least in the foreseeable future.
There are two on the go that I know of.

I'm very sorry I didn't want to complain about the glass textures, it's just my taste of it. If you could share the info about the glass textures and how to manipulate them, I gladly like to do it on my own. I know a little about repainting in FS9 (alpha channels), but in FSX I guess there are some new ways in creating textures, spec maps and the whole stuff, I unfortunately don't know so far. So please, don't see it as a complaint, just as a little alternation.

Best regards,
Elmar

Hello Elmar,
The glass material is coded into the model to be as clear as possible and still be seen and, without a recompile, cannot be altered.
The glass texture on the other hand could be worked on by someone with more knowledge than me to make it shine.
Someone might come along and read this, with any luck!

If the glass texture is set to use its alpha channel for reflection, playing around with the alpha's coloring (shades of gray only) might yield a usable result.

Elmar, are you sure that in the real world those reflections are present when viewed by the pilot or copilot? I would have thought that the designers of both the instruments & cockpit would have tried to eliminate reflections so that there could be no confusion of the values the instrument is showing!

There does not appear to be any of those warnings one sees written on American car wing mirrors!

As the FIFA Soccer World Cup is in progress in Brazil (and it looks like a good chance Brazil will win it!) I thought I had better produce a Brazilian Air Force paint for the DH125.

I have done more than a dozen flights since it was released and it's awesome!

I'm also loving the beautiful repaints. I've done several primitive repaints for other aircraft so I know that the quality repaints require a lot of work. I'm hoping more repaints are coming for this aircraft.

H/U: There seems to be an updated version of the DH.125 on Robert's site. The only difference, however, seems to be a changed [Lights] section in the aircraft.cfg.

I'd also love to know the differences between the 1A and 1B model. MCX shows a slightly different vertex count between them, but I fail to spot any visual difference...

Hi all.
I worked on the Dominie's at RAF Finningley for six years and the upper and lower wing surfaces were always bare aluminium. They were never painted.

Modified [lights] section using the regular vc_light, making the switches toggle the correct lights and adding strobes:

[LIGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit
light.1=1, -24.076, 0.00000, 9.486, fx_beacon
light.2=4, 13.780, 0.00000, 0.70, fx_vclight
light.3=1, -1.026, 0.00000, -4.429, fx_beacon
light.4=3, -5.30, -23.40000, -2.20, fx_navred
light.5=3, -5.30, 23.40000, -2.20, fx_navgre
light.6=2, -5.70, -23.40000, -2.20, fx_strobe
light.7=2, -5.70, 23.40000, -2.20, fx_strobe

That is the way the Web Site reads but I can't imagine that's correct. . .but if it is. . .oh well.

Guys, the note on Rob's page only indicates that he switched to FSXSE and will not support older versions. The differences between FSXSE and FSXMS are marginal anyway, so why on earth shouldn't an add-on made for FSXSE run in FSXMS*?

*Save certain ones coming with older autoinstallers or ones doing strict FSX version checking via Simconnect or FSUIPC. Neither of which any of Rob's aircraft do.

Anyway, here's an updated [lights] section. The cockpit flood light is now controlled by the previously unused logo light switch, so when using the panel light switch, you will only get backlighted gauges and cabin lighting.

[LIGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit 5=Landing 6=Taxi 7=Recognition 8=Wing 9=Logo 10=Cabin
light.1=1, -24.076, 0.00000, 9.486, fx_beacon
light.2=9, 13.780, 0.00000, 1.20, fx_vclight
light.3=1, -1.026, 0.00000, -4.429, fx_beacon
light.4=3, -5.30, -23.40000, -2.20, fx_navred
light.5=3, -5.30, 23.40000, -2.20, fx_navgre
light.6=2, -5.70, -23.40000, -2.20, fx_strobe
light.7=2, -5.70, 23.40000, -2.20, fx_strobe
light.8=4, 5.00, 0.00000, 1.20, fx_vclight
light.9=4, -4.00, 0.00000, 1.20, fx_vclight
light.10=4, 0.00, 0.00000, 1.20, fx_vclight

- Edit:

I've tried to fix the small bugs regarding the fuel pump and generator switches with ModelConverterX, but if I export the model, I get properly working switches at the cost of non-working custom ones (autopilot, etc...). *Sigh*

In case Rob (still) reads along:

- The left generator switch should be tagged with the switch_generator1 animation, the right switch with switch_generator0. At the moment, it's tagged with switch_generator, which is always for engine 1
- The bottom left fuel pump switch should be switch_fuel_pump1 or switch_boost_pump1, bottom right switch_fuel_pump0 or switch_boost_pump0. At the moment: switch_fuel_pump.
- The right deice switch should be tagged with whatever mouserect the left deice switch is tagged with.

This should not take more than five minutes in GMax. I'd even pay the Euro equivalent of whatever costs a pint to compensate for the extra work! Or in custom XML code for the next project!
