It was an Australian National Airways (formerly KLM) DC-3 chartered by the RAAF which crashed on approach at night into Higgins Field, Bamaga, Cape York, Queensland. Sadly all on board died.

According to ADF serials, she was the last KLM a/c to make it out of Java as the Japanese rolled in, then served with USAAF & was nicknamed "Holey Joe". Pic shows her at Port Moresby some time in Oct '42...
