Great video TuFun, and great there's resurgence of interest in the Phantom. Hope something comes from someone soon!! Nigel Richards' sound set is really awesome; I'm using it with the B-58 and it rocks!

Nigels soundset is awesome! To go with that I created an AB effects with correct angle. You can see a swirl of fire as the flame holder ignities the fuel, then bang... flame on!

Or try this one. Worth a shot. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=115&linkid=18463

I like the distinctive howl sound that is characteristic from the J79's.

The sound.cfg file says created by Nigel Richards, but this one is not post by him at SOH.

I am not sure where this one came from. I have a few different J79 sound packs and I uploaded wrong one. If this is from Mr Richards then, it must be same thing as what you have
therefore, I will delete what I just uploaded.

Not to take anything away from Nigel's soundset, which is awesome, but after spending four years around the Phantom when I was in the USAF, plus living just a few miles from Miramar NAS, something is missing from the sounds. Namely, the deep boom from the afterburners. There was a definite, noticeable change in tenor and loudness when the burners lit. And you could tell, even when you couldn't see when the fires went out, as the sound got quieter. I don't remember for sure, but I'm pretty sure the distinctive howl was only there when the fires were out. The burners over rode the howl. The one thing I definitely noticed, after being away from any bases for a while, then moving back, is that none of the newer series jet fighters were as loud as the 'Toom until the F-18. It is definitely different, but also noticeably louder than the F-14, F-15 & F-16, which all were a little quieter than the Phantom, as I remember it.

As I said, I wish to take nothing away from Nigel's soundset, and I could be all wet, as it has been many, many years since I have heard an F-4 live. And there is no movie sound track that can do justice to the sound of a Phantom in full fury. I never missed a performance by the Thunderbirds or the Blue Angels, and was lucky enough to be at one of their very rare dual appearances at the same show. Talk about THUNDER!!! :redfire::redfire:

I am so looking forward to the next release of the F-4!:untroubled:

Okay, let's try this again; I had a few different J79 sound packs and as Murphy's Law goes, I had upped wrong one.

BTW, WIP on Virtavia Pak 1 F4B's- Short nose version (NAVY PACK) . Got nice startup exhaust effect done, and have AB effect incorp. Trying to get the LP gas Bar-B-Que effect on tailpipes.
Don's panel is incorp as well. Plenty of Navy repaints at Flightsim.

Remember the Phantom screech! Our shop was near the end of the runway. Watched F-4's and F-105's takeoff and rattle the rafters in our shop.

I do! While at then NAS Miramar, home of Top Gun School, I'd hear and watch them take off in formation and was really loud. Think that is how I got tinnitus from all that jet noise being on the flight deck and flight line. My squadron had a newly overhauled F-4J waiting for takeoff clearance when a civilian twin prop made emergency landing and plowed the rear end of the F-4J that was going for a check flight.

Here is one starting up with no huffer hose (GSE) Ground support equipment. I remember now and then hearing the huffer hose pop or blow up when starting an F-4. Pretty scary and dangerous.

Looks good. I am in the process of reviving the Pack 1 of this Alpha F-4. I have edited some of the sound files and the spool up includes some exhaust smoke that was not there before.
Working on current AB. There is one (stock) but wanted it to look something like was made for the C9 version.
