View Full Version : John Lancaster's Vichy campaign problem

I downloaded the Vichy campaign by John Lancaster but I cannot run it as I cannot get the campaign missions to show, Nationality shows ok though but after that all is blanked out. Name of file is VFCamp_G.zip.

To see what was what, I also installed it at a second place. First was the default location, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2.

The 2nd install (test) was at:

C:\VICHY CFS2 CAMPAIGN\Combat Flight Simulator 2

Here then I was able to inspect the files and see all of them. I checked them against the first install and all seems ok.

Then I copied all the missions from the CAMPAIGNS folder into the MISSIONS folder to see if I could fly them as 'missions', but that had the same problem.
I thought then to unistall them but could not do it through the exe for the unistall, as it cannot find INSTALL.LOG.

I did not download any scenery for it, so I wonder where the airfields will come from. John does not mention any extra scenery as needed. Perhaps that is the problem.

Another thing is tyhat Bloch 200 given does not drop its bombs.

Can anyone help?

Nick

Jinx,

Yes. Get the updated version: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=44&id=16257

Also, have you tried Skylane's version of this yet? http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=44&id=18400

Rami,

I am confused. You give me two links--which one do I install, 1st, 2nd or BOTH?

Also, I started the downloads and got as far down as here in the Readme:

Gloster Gladiator Mk.II By Thicko
Filename: Gloster_Gladiator_Mk_2
Location:
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=50HYPERLINK "http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=50&sort=d&page=8&pp=20"&HYPERLINK "http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=50&sort=d&page=8&pp=20"sort=dHYPERLINK "http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=50&sort=d&page=8&pp=20"&HYPERLINK "http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=50&sort=d&page=8&pp=20"page=8HYPERLINK "http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=50&sort=d&page=8&pp=20"&HYPERLINK "http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=50&sort=d&page=8&pp=20"pp=20 (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=50&sort=d&page=8&pp=20)

AH Hurricane Mk.I with skins by Morton
Filename: mk_Hurricane_Mk_I_Balkans.zip
Location:
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?linkid=6625HYPERLINK "http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?linkid=6625&catid=50"&HYPERLINK "http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?linkid=6625&catid=50"catid=50 (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?linkid=6625&catid=50)
Important: Rename the aircraft folder to: AH_Hurricanemk1
You can use any skin you like

Now the links above seem to be mixed somehow--I click on the one and it goes to the other..... !!!???
And the descriptions here above do not match exactly. I did not see any word "Balkans" on the Hurricanes....(mk_Hurricane_Mk_I_Balkans.zip). And there are at least 6 Hurricanes on that page. Which one?

Any help?

Nick

Jinx,

The first link is a direct, mission-to-mission update of John Lancaster's campaign.

The second link is Skylane's new Operation Exporter campaign. It does not replicate any of the mission in John Lancaster's campaign, but it covers the entire expanse of the historical event in Syria and Lebanon from the Vichy French and British perspectives.

Jinx,

Those aren't the links in the readme.

Gladiator...

You’ll need the Gloster Gladiator Mk. II (gladimk2.zip, th_gladdps_cfs2.zip, mk_gladiator_mk2_sqd_80.zip)
Location: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=50&id=6625 (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=50&id=6625)
.dp fix: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=17&id=14049 (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=17&id=14049)
Egyptian skin: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=58&id=1049 (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=58&id=1049)

One aircraft, one .dp fix, one skin. All three are direct download links.

Hurricane...

You’ll need Morton’s AH Hurricane Mk. I package for the Balkans (mk_Hurricane_Mk_I_Balkans.zip)

Location: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=50&id=15561 (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=50&id=15561)
Med skin: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=58&id=1161 (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=58&id=1161)

Please feel free to use the appropriate historical skin for the given mission, just make sure that the aircraft folder is named: AH_Hurricanemk1.

Because the conflict in Syria / Lebanon happened after the Balkans, there is no specific skin from the Balkans package that would be directly appropriate for the campaign. This is why I included a general "Mediterranean" skin with the second link.

Use the readme instructions that Morton has in the Hurricane package, except use the skin from the link I provided for the skin.

Hi Nick,

Use one of the RAF 80 Squadron skins - that squadron was involved in the campaign from May to October 1941.

Kevin,

Thank you. I forgot about that...then the Balkans package will work, because there are RAF 80 Squadron repaints in it. :applause:

Thanks to all for helping. I will do as you say and heed your advice,

It is already proving to be too many downloads, so I will make a new install of CFS2 for it, just in case I drown somewhere.

Rami:
TWO DIFFERDo you mean to say that the two links are TWO INDEPENDENT CAMPAIGNS that do not clash with each other and can both be installed?
And if so, could they be installed in the same CFS2 INSTALL FOLDER?

I often wish campaigns would be simple with all inlcuded, like the old one named IN DEFENCE OF AUSTRALIA.
If any of you know of such simple campaigns, please let me know.
I also understand that campaign makers, in their desire to be complete, make campaigns that require over 50 downloads or more. However, it is still possible to do only small parts of a campaign, with all addons included, is it not? DEFENCE OF AUSTRALIA is that type, and so was a Swordish campaign I had 10 years ago or so, which had the Swordfish flying in the Med, off Cyprus, Egypt and such places in the area of the southern Med. The Shagbats were fine and one could launch torpedoes. I may look for it again.

Thanks again,

Nick

Nick,

I don't know how I could be clearer, but yes. They should interact with each other fine.

Also, IDoA was one of the first campaigns ever created for CFS2. As such, it was done with minimal objects and aircraft other than stock items. The quality of objects, aircraft, vehicles, ships, and aircraft are so varied and enriched now, it necessitates greater amounts of downloads to use the materials that are available. These designers don't design aircraft, vehicles, ships, scenery packs, and objects to sit around and gather dust. They should be used. This is what I try to do.

Further, Captain Kurt's campaigns are all inclusive, but look at the difference in size between IDoA and something like the 9th Fighter Group or the 354th Fighter Group. The increased size is an example of the greater amount of materials to work with.

When I release the 20th Fighter Group, it will be all inclusive. However, have you every looked at the readme for these materials you download? Some authors have no problem with their materials being used in a package, while others request specific permission. By creating a hyperlinked readme and allowing you to download and install these items yourself, it eliminates me from having to gather up every single scrap of material, create a batch or installer file, and upload it to SOH.

I can spend more time instead building campaigns.

Jinx and Rami,

Sorry, something apparently went wrong with some links in the readme of my Exporter campaign package...
I´m going over them right now and will post a corrected file later!

I just checked all the links in the readme and made corrections where necessary. The attached zip contains the updated file. I will also post it in the thread about my campaign.

Rami, would you please be so kind and replace the "Download and Installation" document in tne library with this updated file?
