Need some help with stutters and not sure what to do for it. You can see my PC specs on profile, and I have setup pretty close to Avsim guide and DX 10 guide. Use DX 10 fixer. Everything else is really good no blurries, FPS lock at 30 and stay in the high 20's or right at 30. I'll post cfg file and I can give any other info if needed, Thanks.

Yup - screenshot of Inspector, please! :encouragement:

Also - you are running two monitors - right?

They're all pretty similar, Chiron: they work. Inspector looks ok... one of your stuttering causes may be FXAA, as it's post-process. Try turning it off and testing.

Are you running two monitors?

yes I am running 2 monitors, but it is for atc window, gps window, and popup gauges. I will try what you suggested and get back.

"but it is for atc window, gps window, and popup gauges" The "but" doesn't mean that it will work without issues! It's running at a different resolution...

and so now you may also want to read page 16 of the Guide, Chiron. There's another post next to yours (at this moment), by Mr. Naismith, with a typical multi-monitor issue.

All the best, :encouragement:

Hi Paul, I turned off FXAA and that helped a lot, still have some very small micro stutters but way better and less often. I did also change vertical sycn to" force on" as per DX 10 guide in regards to the D3Doverride so I will see if that makes any difference. I am sorry but I am not sure what you are referring to on page 16 that has to do with fullscreen or vsync, unless there is something else you wanted me to see. I did read the other post and I am running my first monitor in full screen and my 2nd goes black and that is where I drop other windows, but they are not the same size. Thank you again for your help here.:joyous:

Hey Paul so I did try to run with just one monitor and that solved the stutters, so for now I will just go with one monitor. Thanks for help again.:untroubled:

You are Perry333 from the Avsim site aren't you!

Don't give up so quickly, Chiron! You can have your two monitors - it's just configuring a couple of things to make it happen!

There's two issues when using two monitors with DX10, and the first is that we cannot get the main monitor to run full screen with the normal FSX views, along with vSync working properly - while at the same time using a second monitor which is running an FMC or some other function that you want to use: This is the major problem, and it's the improper setup of those two monitors which is causing the stuttering.

The answer - the "fix" - is to run FSX in windowed mode only, and page 16 outlines how to do that.

There are two fixes which need to be done:

How do we get fullscreen to work? Well - we don't. We are not going to use "fullscreen" at all. What we do is two things. 1). We will take a "windowed mode" appearance, and make it look exactly like fullscreen mode - and we do that by running "Pseudo-FullScreen". It will enlarge the window and get rid of the borders.

It gives us a key - the "Windows key" plus F11. Pressing "WinKey"+F11 will make the screen go to a "look-alike" fullscreen - and FSX will now still be in windowed mode but it will look just like fullscreen. Now we can have two monitors running - both in "Windowed mode", but one looking like a fullscreen.

The second fix we have to do, is to make vSync work, as it doesn't work in Windowed mode when running two monitors. This is done by running Windows "Aero" in the background. This is started by a script which is made into a .bat file. As there are three methods easily available to do this - I'll just refer you back to page 16, as all three are described there.

Once you have this up and running you will probably not have your stutters, but it needs to be done by you to test that. If for any reason - you don't understand this, ask again here, and we can address the specific problem - ok!

All the Best,

pj

Paul,

Jumping into this thread since I too use a second/small monitor for FMC.
I followed your how-to and I now have it working in windowed mode.
I chose to use the batch file in FSUIPC.ini modification which is working nicely
without any apparent FR loss.

I still do not understand this "pseudo-window" procedure.
What steps do I need to take to get this thing working?

Hi Nemokin;

OK. Two problems:-

1). The first problem is that when using "Windowed Mode" we can see the borders - top, left, right - and the Taskbar. Our window - even when we hit the little square at the top-right corner - we still see those borders - right? Fixed by "Pseudo_FullScreen.

2). The second problem is that there is no vSync in Windowed Mode. Fixed by using Aero.

In your post you have said:-

I followed your how-to and I now have it working in windowed mode.
I chose to use the batch file in FSUIPC.ini modification which is working nicely

What part of the How-to did you follow? You are referring to two different functions here:-

1). and I now have it working in windowed mode.

This means that you are using Pseudo-FullScreen and it's working via the Win_Key+F11.

2). I chose to use the batch file in FSUIPC.ini modification which is working nicely
without any apparent FR loss.

This means that you have Aero working so that you now have vSync.

Sooooo.... which is correct? :encouragement: I think you are using both, but you haven't got them separated in your mind.

Hmm... More confused now.
I may be misunderstanding the terminologies.

I have always avoided full screen mode in previous versions of FS including FSX in
DX9, and when I attempted using my second monitor of different size for my FMC under
DX10 I had a mouse curser problem.
In my attempt to activate my second monitor used for FMC, and your how-to being
clear about it needing to have ForceWindowVsync=1, I entered that in my FSC.cfg.
After that, having read the bottom of page 16 of your how-to, followed your "method 3".
No D3D overrider used. With steps mentioned in your"method 3", I now have my
second monitor working as FMC. I suppose that I now have the Aero active with vSync.

However, I still have the blue windows frame/strip at the top, task bar at the bottom. Nothing on
the left or right, just top and bottom. Task bar at the bottom will disappear after
a second or two unless I take my mouse to the bottom of my screen then it reappears.
FS menu bar appears under the windows frame at the top, but I press
<ctrl> and it gets hidden until I press it again to have it reappear.
When you say "pseudo full screen" I am thinking that you don't even have the frame/strip
at the top, am I wrong?

However, I still have the blue windows frame/strip at the top, task bar at the bottom. Nothing on
the left or right, just top and bottom. Task bar at the bottom will disappear after
a second or two unless I take my mouse to the bottom of my screen then it reappears.

Correct! Pseudo_FullScreen gets rid of all borders. All you need too do is follow the (below) extract!

Page 16:-

FullScreen Mode: One of the other issues is that most of us like to fly in fullscreen while enjoying the benefits of other panels setup on the second monitor - and having ToolTips available as well! Unfortunately DX10 doesn't co-operate very well when you want that second screen for different panels. However there is a (free) answer to this: "Pseudo Full_Screen" along with "AutoHotKey". I had seen this before, but I found using it just a tad on the complicated side to say "it's easy to set up", so here is a ready-to-use Pseudo_FullScreen: just unzip it somewhere, make a shortcut on the desktop to it, and then double click on the shortcut before you run FSX. You will get a green icon in your taskbar, fullscreen without toolbars and borders, and…. you will have your "ToolTips" back! :encouragement:

(I changed the wording very slightly for an easier read.)

OK! :adoration:

Hey Paul, thanks again for the reply yes that is me over at Avsim , and I will have to look into this some more. Don't have to much time right now so it might take me awhile to look into it some more. Also just realized there is a newer version of your DX10 notes that's why when you where saying look at this page it was not making sense to me,:redface-new: so I will go though that to day. Thanks again for all you help and time here much appreciated!

Your page 16 does say "here is the pseudoHotkey" but clicking "here" doesn't take me anywhere. Mind checking?

Hahaha! Cheesh! This is what happens after you hit 50........

Here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/tufoj7ii5uemgtb/pseudo_full_screen.zip) it is now, Nemokin.. Sorry. I had re-worded it to make it a little simpler - then forgot the main piece! Duh!

The manual is also corrected. :encouragement:

All the Best,

Downloaded it, thank you.

Reading the "readme" looks pretty easy.
Just double click on the exe file then launch my FSX, once ready I press win+F11 to
go back and forth between the "windowed" and "pseudo-full".
No setting anything, no tweaking, nothing.

Right?

Right! That's all it does. It makes a Windowed screen look like it's "fullscreen".
