What happened to the new campaign chastise. Seems to be in limbo. See many new and upgrades to aircraft, but very few missions and campaigns lately.

There have been 11 campaigns uploaded in the last 9 months and 2 of them in the last 2 weeks.Maybe they aren't what you are interested in.

Also remember there are only 4 or 5 people who do campaigns and don't expect them to wok on them 24/7.Sometimes it takes months sometimes to do a camapaign so you should be happy with what is uploaded. There is no reason to complain because of a lack of work.People need to take a break sometimes from CFS2.

Another solution is you can always do your own if what you want isn't done.

I don't remember Chastise being developed, but I do echo what Talon says. The Mission Builder tool is not that hard to work with which is one of the really great things about CFS2 as far as I am concerned. Get a copy of Cody Coyote's Mission Builder tutorial available to download here at SOH. It will guide you through the basics plus numerous tricks and tips to create your own missions and campaigns.

Mission building adds tremendously to the CFS2 experience for me and provides many hours of fun beyond making holes in the air in my favorite planes. :encouragement:

Give it a try, you might find out how much more fun it is.

I echo Talon and Captain Kurt.

If you hang out on here for very long you will see lots of conversations about missions and campaigns.

As Talon stated, many take months to develop to a point of release to the library.

Case in point: I have two campaigns for the British Pacific Fleet I have been working for almost a year, perhaps more than a year.

I work full time plus (more than 40 hours a week), am doing a Master Degree program, and have a family.

I don't want to upload crap, so I take my time and build a mission, fly it several times, adjust it, fly it several times, adjust it and then add it to a campaign full of missions that I did exactly the same thing with each and every time.

Prior to getting to that point, I read every single thing I can find on the time period involved, make notes, build a single mission, consult the books, online documents, other resources, tweak the mission, and then fly it several times, adjust it, fly it several times, adjust it and add it to a campaign.

But then, I build missions as close to actual events as CFS2 will allow, as do Talon and Captain Kurt and everyone else I know here in the basement.

Time building missions is not money and never could be. It is a HOBBY. It is for FUN, RELAXATION, and ENJOYMENT.

Oh, and, they are free for the download to everyone that wants them.

Nothing to complain about with FREE enjoyment.

We, Meaning Rami, Robert John, Allen, and myself are still working on the scenery. I'm currently working on the DP for RJ's FINK II sub pen.

So its still in the works.

Rami wants to finish his current campaign before doing this one.

Stay tuned...

I remember when doing PHP2 it took about 7 years to do the scenery for it.There also just 1 person doing it untl the last year or 2. Sometimes it just takes time to get eveything the way it should be.

Jon0804,

1) Thank you for your interest in Operation Chastise. I have not forgotten about this project.

2) 20th Fighter Group has been my top priority, and with my life being as crazy as it is right now...(four kids, a wife, a mother who can't drive for six months, and a brother in alcohol rehab who I can now spend some time with on the weekends) I'm lucky if I have any time to work on CFS2 at all, especially being without a working laptop for the last two months.

3) Having a working laptop will allow me to once again work on CFS2 with more regularity, and I can also create more GSL scenery with it, because the loading times for placing objects are not incredibly slow like they are on my desktop. (This is one of the few things about my desktop PC that stinks, and I'll be damned if I can find the cause) I also have a laptop now with better graphics capability than I had before.

4) The reason, in part, for my incredibly high productivity early on was that I was doing reworks and updates, not my own materials. In addition, I had many projects going on at the same time, and was simply waiting several years ago for achim27619 to provide the bases that allowed me to complete various projects. Most of the "core" of my ETO / MTO works came out during this time.

5) As all the above mentioned parties will tell you, doing your own research, finding out what you may need built, and coordinating your efforts with other people takes time and patience. Additionally, all CFS2 mission builders (and the table is rather small, as alluded to in the thread) experience burnout from time to time, as well as the limited availability of time that you have to be working on a hobby. When this hobby starts to feel like yet another job, you back off and rediscover the outside world.

6) Because I teach nearly ten months out of the year, I have my highest CFS2 productivity rates during the summer.

If you are interested in campaign building, Cody's Tutorial is a great place to learn the basics, and the rest is trial, error, followed by "where the hell are the fighters I spawned," and "why the f*** do these bombers keep crashing into each other?"

It becomes easier to master as you go along....kinda. :wiggle:

It wasn't Critical, I think all of us appreciate what RAMI has done concerning this sim. Was just looking for information on status of campaign. If anything need email me, if I can help.

Jon8004,

No worries, my friend. I did not take it as such. That's why I responded in the manner I did, to let you know what's going on, and why things were progressing a little slower than usual.

So we have the plans in the works.

The Fink II sub pen is out for testing. Let me know if it needs anything.

Oh Rami, I added AA guns to the DP. So as you know, if you add it as GSL they won't shoot. Just a heads up.

I'm going to work on my tunnels. I think I'll do a layered DP for them. They are going to be a PIA. To bad we can't add a BGL as mesh.

So thats my end.

None of us meant to sound like we took it as criticism. In fact, we'd all like to entice you into writing a few missions, even if only for your private use. It really is pretty cool. :encouragement:

Gentlemen,

allow me to grab this splendid opportunity to thank you all for the huge work you did in the past, and still do, to create missions and campaigns.

Everything concerning CFS2 is born of passion and hard work, even if doing it means fun, relaxation and brain re-generation after our everyday's life with all of its commitments. If painting a simple prop blurred disc set can take up to two weeks of free time for me, I imagine what it can take doing anything else!

As Talon mentioned, there are not a lot of folks here that have the very specialised mission-building skill, therefore basically all the major authors responded to this thread and are all here.

So,
THANK YOU!!!
:applause: :applause: :applause:

Cheers!

Rami,

A lot of little bits have been done already but what else is needed?

Need any other targets or weapons?

I think we still need the Eagles Nest. I have a model (Sorry Kdriver I forgot to send it to you) but it need work to make it useable in CFS2. Could use it as a mock up for a new one. There where a couple Castles needed as well.

I remember that much. Here are some other projects at different stages of completion that I know of.

-Allen did the Viaduct.

-Robert John has just finished the Fink II Subpen. Robert are you doing the others?

-I've done the Bombs (we had a tallboy already it seems, Oh well now we have 2)

-Allen and Robert are working on the lancasters and the skip bomb.

-I'm working on some tunnels for the V-1 or is it the V-2 bombings. That reminds me I wanted to do some long track sections.

Do we have all of the ships for the Bombing of the Tirpitz? Or are you going that far with it Rami?

If anyone wants to help with anything please chime in. If you don't know how we can teach you. One of us can I'm sure.

Well thats all I can think of. My brain is mush. Time for bed.

Till Later,
John

John and fellow Operation Chastise architects,

The Berghof is another item which comes to mind.

The Eagle's Nest was a small chalet on top of a 6000 ft mountain, 3000 ft above and 2 miles south of the Berghof, which was Hitler's main alpine HQ. The Berghof was also a cluster of chalet style buildings near the town of Berchtesgaden, Obersalzburg. The air raid targeted the Berghof and two tallboys hit the buildings. The Germans later torched the complex before American troops arrived a few hours later. The Eagle's Nest survived unscathed and today is a restaurant.

I'll have a look in the civil flight sims for some chalets which may be converted to CFS 2 to represent the Berghof.

I fixed up a Lancaster for CFS3 to destroy Dams and I also made skipbombs for CFS3.Believe it or not it can be done the same way for CFS2.There are more similarities then you think.

Hey Talon,

Not sure where the Skipbomb project stands but Robert John would be a good one to get in touch with.

Seems you have everything under control.Besides I have other things to figure out for what I'm playing with.

Well pass me the info. I'd like to know what you did.

Talon

The skipbomb is the easy part, just make the bbomb you want to use into a torpedo.

The Lancaster has to be able to torpedo attack,if it doesn't you have to make changes to the airfile.Next since you will be attacking Dams on rivers you have to make sure it can pull up and turn without crashing into the river banks or any mountains that are around. That is done in the cfg file with trial and error.I would also make it an AI plane.

The attack angles on the Dams are also very important to have it work right.

I don't fly in the ETO so don't use the Lancaster but have fixed a B-17 to skip and glide bomb for my Bismarck Sea Campaign a few years ago.
