richard petty (i wonder if anyones ever called him dick?) says patric will never win in cup unless everyone else stays home.

Richard Petty: Danica won't win: The only way #10-Danica Patrick will win a NASCAR Sprint Cup race is if she's the only driver on the track, says the legendary "King" of stock car racing, Richard Petty. Petty, who visited Toronto Sunday for an appearance at the Canadian Motorsports Expo (for the live blog, please click here), answered quickly and decisively when asked if the former IndyCar star who's now a second-year driver for Stewart-Haas Racing would ever visit Victory Lane in the Cup series. "(Only) if everybody else stayed home," said Petty, who startedhis NASCAR career in 1958 in a race at the long-gone Canadian National Exhibition Speedway in downtown Toronto. Petty spent much of the time in a media scrum discussing how NASCAR has evolved over the years from "race time" to "show time" and he acknowledged that Patrick has been good for the sport in that respect.(full story at Toronto Star Wheels (http://www.wheels.ca/news/danica-will-only-win-in-nascar-sprint-cup-if-shes-by-herself-richard-petty-says/))(2-10-2014)

I have to agree with the king, she may have Indy car talent, but that rarely translates to NASCAR talent.

oh boy do i ever agree with that statement, look at guys like montoya and hornish..the ones whove stuck around and gave it a try..at best hornish is competitive in nationwide,Montoya was aggressive and gave it a real try...but just couldnt do it,and he gave up to go back to a series he can win in....

i used to get in some hum-dinger arguments about what series drivers were better,i honestly cant say nascar drivers are "better"..BUT they do infact drive those big cup cars much better, and i have no idea of how a cup driver will do in the indy cars..maybe Kurt Busch will show us?..i think kyle larson will do fine,,hes young.started in go carts and quarter midgets and moved up in sprint cars...his own admission is..the nationwide cars dont have enough horsepower to suit his driving style ( has nothing to do with the speed of the cup cars vs nationwide cars, its about how he enters the corner, and gets off the corner, and uses the power of the car to to do so)so many people equate horsepower to speed, but a good driver can drive very well in a crappy car if it has the HP to "get up off" as they say.

like landing an airplane..when i first tried flight sim,i would pull back the power way to soon and try to glide it in..id then stall and crash..but youtube gave me great insight,i could hear and see that most airplanes were being actively flown...under power..until the final flare...and then thinking back to my racing days ,i allways did better when i drove into the corner, and set the car, then with the proper set,i could get back on the power sooner when coming out of the corner and could pass cars(alot of guys try to pass while going into a corner,,but usually end up over shooting the corner and losing anything they gained),and i believe it all has to do with HP.

and look at athletes from other sports, very few whove tried to do both ...cant...people say race car drivers arent athletes, that for example, football players are stronger and in better shape than a race car driver, but ive seen little guys (think jeff gordon,or Kasey Kahne, but not them actually)who have beated a 49er lineman in an arm wrestling match ( this was when the 9ers trained in rocklin.very close to my home and we messed with the players often..a entire other story)his arms were huge and powerfull...my buddies arms were powerfull but didnt have that visual deffenition, but he outlasted the 9er and then over powered him...my point?..a race car drive has differant muscle whatevers....and have the stamina to last 50 laps on a half mile wide open in a sprint car,,,where a football player goes like a bat out of hell for a few seconds at a time..then get to breathe and rest between plays.ive also seen two major sports personalities who when they got out of the car, were covered in urine... ok ima stop..none of ya got this far anyway..:untroubled:

Well, most everyone on the entire planet agrees with Richard Petty on this one, more or less, so it's interesting to me why this is such a hot news story on “Fox Sports One”. Wouldn't it have been more news worthy if he said he thought she could win? According to the people on that Hub show, The King said the same thing about Janet Guthrie, leading us loyal viewers to speculate whether or not Mr. The King was sexist! Somebody else on that Hub show pointed out that while Patrick had no top 5 finishes in 2013, Petty Motorsports had one, between their two drivers. Oops... Hate it when that happens... She's not the first over-hyped driver to come along. I still wish her well, and I don't think she “doesn't belong” in some way. Apparently Kevin Harvick is a supporter, even before they became teammates. I've said this before: the loudest criticism of her seems to come from teams and drivers who don't have much success in NASCAR, while she seems to have the support from the successful ones. Isn't that interesting?

she may have Indy car talent,

Given her equipment & team, I would rate her a slightly above average IndyCar driver (about the same as the over-rated Marco Andretti)

Danica's comments to Chris Meyers today on the media day coverage was cool..talked about how it makes her feel when a small kid comes to her and wants a hug because she is an inspiration to the kid,she NEVER bad mouthed richard or anyone whos put her down lately, basically said she just has to do what she can to improve and get better and just keep at it....

she seems more humble to me lately ,or here in nascar.i can remember seeing and hearing her in indy cars telling people off (passion is great) but what i never liked about her was her false bravado..she had that fight with her teammate that time and claimed he should have moved over to let HER win..ect...she doesnt do that crap anymore.

Her looks, gender, skills, etc. seem to work both ways. They have gotten her into elite racing and inspired all sorts of people to bad mouth her. I don't know what her average finish was last year but I'll bet there were around 15+ drivers that finished behind her and no one is bad mouthing them or suggesting they can't win if anyone else is in the race. Seems she will have to race between a rock and a hard place! :dizzy:

One of her problems in IndyCar was that their were some women who are arguably faster than Danica but were on lesser teams ...And add to it that these women didn't get the same type of limelight that Danica did...

Sarah Fisher was/is (IMHO) faster than Danica on ovals but she (Sarah) never made it to top team....It's amazing what she (Sarah) accomplished.....(At one time, she had the oldest & heaviest chassis of all the teams)....

Simona De Silvestro is (IMHO) faster than Danica on road course but again, she (Simona) has never been on an Andretti caliber team...

And Johanna Long is better than Danaca, but that still does not answer why the 16 drivers that are slower than Danaca are not picked on. Keselowski suggested yesterday that if she were a male she would be gone. That was ignorant, if that were the case she and the 16 drivers that are slower than her should all be gone. We would have 26 car fields!

I think the core of the problem is all the hype that surrounded Danica as she entered NASCAR. Had she not been hyped up to be such a fantastic race car driver, there would be no controversy.

Your correct, but the hype was the medias doing. I am simply trying to apply some logic to this as the media is not into logic just sensationalism.

She arguably is a better money bringer-in (sponsor dream) than the other 16 drivers....Just like Dale Jr. is a sponsor dream (who has yet to win a championship) too....

and alot of those 16 drivers should be gone,i agree with the earlier post about them..nemachic ,and others are considered field fillers...if the big teams bring these hot new drivers in,was it 11 rookies this season?those field fillers wont qualify...especially with this new qualifying format those old "start n parks" wont even make the field.

Personally, I think Danica needs to get more aggressive on the track. She's always mired in the middle of the pack, and she's got to get into that front group on a consistent basis if she wants to earn the respect of the 'shine boys. If that means an occasional tap or touch, then I say go for it. Stick yer grill into the fray; whomever has the most guile wins the right to make brodies on the Infield.

All the GoDaddy, photo shoots and hype aside... she obviously can drive better than your average H. sapiens, and her boss thinks so, too.

I hope she wins a big race in the near future.

15. #32 Terry Labonte Ford 47.373s (-2.343s) 189.982mph (8 laps)

Look at Danica's position in both practice sessions. 11th and 12th. Look at Junior, 1st in the first session, goes to the garage, says there is a lot more speed in the car, changes some things, second session he is next to last. He is inconsistent, the top drivers are consistent and Danica is actually consistent, but she is consistent with being in the middle of the pack. Consistently average.

ya know...i am still a fan of hers..id like to see her win a race and finish top ten in points at some point...for me it would be a way to give montoya a raspberry,id like to see her do well, but i dont think it will happen..or will be a few years..as stated above..she needs to be more aggressive in her own race..as in race the racetrack not the other drivers....she spends to much time on track beatin and bangin with other drivers.

I'm more indifferent now - but very cognizant of other capable women drivers who don't get the kind of PR that Danica has....
