Evergreen has gone into chapter 7.worries me that the museum and spruce goose is in danger.

Many of the aircraft that are on display at the Evergreen Aviation Museum, as well as the land and buildings, are owned by the non-profit "Michael King Smith Foundation", and thus aren't directly tied to the Evergeen International business. This includes the "Hughes Hercules" (Spruce Goose). These are all 'safe' for the time being. What is in more immediate 'jeopardy' is the aircraft that are on display which are owned by Del Smith himself - these include the B-17, FG-1D, P-40, Spitfire, Me 109, P-38, TBM, T-28, Tri-Motor, DC-3, DH-4, SNJ, S-2B, Stinson, PT-17, and P-51. At present, the TBM, Tri-Motor and P-38 are listed for sale here:

well ok...i typed what i did about the goose because a few weeks ago i read in the flying mag email that the "government" were planning on seizing the goose as collateral (or whatever the proper term is) in lieu of back taxes and other things in regards to his part in the goose and the museum,it even said the museum was in jeopardy of closing for good because of all this..they insinuated money laundering was going on involving evergreen/the museum and his other private financial dealings....guess they were all wet though...

Hadn't caught that before now, thanks Dave. My first thought is their disappointment over not getting one of the space shuttles. It's a decent museum, hope it stays in operation. One of my fondest aviation history moments was being privileged to sit in Howard's seat in that colossal machine.

Actually, if you want REALLY out of the way then go to the Tillamook Museum. That is an extremely nice museum on the Oregon Coast. If I remember correctly, almost everything they display is flyable, and they have some beautiful warbirds.

The last time I went to Evergreen (about 5 years ago) it was because we did not have time to make it to Tillamook. Evergreen was nice, but did not have the character of Tillamook.

Yes, we visited there on the same road trip as Evergreen. It was actually my wife who first suggested it because she wanted to visit the Tillamook Dairy.

Hope they get things figured out at the evergreen museum. It's a great (longgggg) stop on the way to the beach. Love the goose and all the other aircraft. Sad to see news like this. Tillamook I heard will be losing there aircraft as well. Last I heard they were moving the aircraft to Madras on the other side of the cascade mountains. a much better climate for the aircraft. Too bad they can't move the hanger with the aircraft, they really look cool in there. It is something to see by itself!
