I have a 650 - 1300mm lens for my Nikon D3100 and like you say not all that expensive.

With the D3200 being an APS-C sensor, that would be a 2000-4100 mm lens with the converter fitted.. At f/16 is that even usable without ridiculously high ISO settings and anything but bright daylight..?

If you've seen Cirrus' past image threads, he pretty much shoots in bright daylight....:mixed-smiley-010:

Ye gods, man! Whom are you spying on? Area 51? The Space Station? Oh wait: NSA!

Let us know how it works for you. I might just be interested down the road. (I just got through buying lenses for indoor sports, so that sector of the toy budget is low.)

If you're a Nikon shooter, I've been eyeballing the older "AF" version of this lens.....:monkies:

Nope, I'm a Pentaxian! :icon_lol:

I managed to find a NOS (new old stock) Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX DG Macro on Ebay with a 7 year Canadian warranty. The lens was discontinued in Pentax-K mount a couple of years ago but it's still available in Canon and Nikon mounts. I got lucky as I was able to pick it up for less money than I've seen used ones going for on Ebay and numerous used lens sites. :jump:

I've only managed a few test shots so far but I'm impressed by what I've seen. It's super sharp, good in low light and as it has a 'flat field' front element you can take macro shots of flat things like stamps or coins without any corner distortion.

Here's some examples of what the lens can do in the right hands.

I've looked at KEH many times and read many excellent reports about their quality and service. However, I've also read a lot a bad reports about their shipping to Canada. Apparently they are very slow to ship outside the US and use carriers that have strange routings. One guy in Canada reported that his lens went to Norway before coming to Canada. When he inquired about the route he was told by KEH that for international shipments they wait until they have enough items to warrant a large parcel that is then sent out to a sub-contractor who re-distributes the smaller packages. I don't know how true that is but it certainly sounds very strange to me.

I know of one Canadian who regularly buys from KEH but he lives close to the border in BC and has a US mail box address in a small town across the border. He has his stuff shipped to his mail box and then pops over the border to pick it up.
