Help! Very confused. I have put together, using MAIW's A4 the Blue Angels and they look great. However, I have been trying to add airshow smoke like my F-16 Thunderbirds, Red Arrows and F-18 Blue Angels, some red, white and blue. They all work but I can't get the smoke effect to work with the A4's. I have looked in the air file strobe light and smoke sections and here is the aircraft.cfg below. Can anyone help me out?

I'm not seeing a [smokesystem] entry in the cfg file. Should look something like this:

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0= -19.00, 0.00, 0.00, fx_Virtav_A4_exhaust //show appropriate effect here

I will try but my other ai I don't think needed the smoke ntry. The effect works in the light section.

That could be true as I've not messed with modifying AI planes before. The suggestions are valid for normal operations.

Please post the [Lights] section from one of the others that is working (F-16 Thunderbirds, Red Arrows and F-18 Blue Angels). It looks like that is where smoke is being called in as a strobe light effect. Maybe it needs to be a nav light instead?

You've got the same "fx_smoke_white1" effect being called for both. And it seems to be working as a strobe light on the Thunderbirds. Do the lights work? Maybe since it is triggered by a light there could be an issue with the [Electrical] section of the A-4 but I wouldn't know from looking.

I'm out of ideas. Have you asked over at the MAIW forum (http://www.militaryaiworks.com/newforum/index.php)?

Out of ideas myself. I have found a couple other aircraft that will not work and some that work just fine. I believe you are right, I should contact the MAIW designers. It sure is fun though trying different things I have the Red Arrows, three with white, three with red and three with blue smoke doing a great airshow.

[LIGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
light.0 = 3, -4.76, -13.92, -2.15, fx_f16_navredm ,
light.1 = 3, -4.76, 13.92, -2.15, fx_f16_navgrem ,
light.2 = 1, -1.30, 0.00, 1.82, fx_beacon ,
light.3 = 2, -28.0, 0,0, 0,0, fx_smoke_white1
light.4 = 7,-20.0, 0.00, -0.3, fx_nicksmokeAI_sm_lear ,

For your smoke effect for the A-4 model, the line in red, the effect coordinates have gotten messed up.

The first coordinate is "-28.0", that's the z axis coordinate and looks to be right.

However, look at the entries behind that. They're not in the correct format, they got messed up somehow.

The next coordinate is the X axis coordinate, in this case you want the centerline so change that to "0.0" instead of the "0,0" that is there currently.

The final coordinate is your Y axis coordinate, look right below the line in red, it's the other smoke effect, both those effects should be coming from the same spot in 3D space, so in this case you can use the Y value of "-0.3" in your line for the white smoke effect as well.

That should fix your issue.

So replace the line in red with this one:

light.3 = 2, -28.0, 0.00, -0.3, fx_smoke_white1

A single misplaced comma or period can wreak havoc. :mixed-smiley-010:
