It is 100% tongue in cheek but it is also 100% legit. New Navions for FSX are on final approach and the release candidate has gone out to a wider beta team for final checks and bug squashing.

We just thought we'd have some fun with the announcement of a new aircraft and add a little humour (adult or otherwise) to what could have been another dry new plane post.

Hey, how did you guys get my airplane and when can I buy it back!?

You shouldn't have left the key to the hangar on that nail in the Outhouse door should you, but I'm sure we can negotiate a reasonable price for her once we get the bugs out (that Outhouse needs a good fumigating I think!)

Well like Android, our expert gauge man Dave intended this phone app to be built upon and expanded by others for different aircraft too... so we thought android and its Linux roots were a good match.

Mostly its because none of us had an iphone to model it on... Dave has a Samsung funnily enough!

Lovely, lovely, work to all those involved in making this little bugger possible

Thanks, it's been an interesting journey as this is the first flyable model I've attempted.

Just so you know we hit a bit of a show stopper during beta testing which held us up for a few days until we worked out a solution to the problem (it turns out to be a core FSX issue that we needed to work around) but progress is now being made again and hopefully the result will be well worth the effort.

I'm afraid we won't be doing an FS9 model... way too many polys and way too complex for 9 to handle... It just won't feasibly convert. Plus the texture mapping requires 2048 minimum for clarity in the textures as we mapped with the understanding that we weren't using 1024...
Really sorry :(

Went to get the windshield replaced in the wife's car last week and the shop was near the Van Nuys airport. As I was leaving I saw in a narrow aisle a beautiful, well-kept Navion, a red Legacy in Reno race paint, and in the hangar, the Navion's uncle, an airworthy P-51.

Can't wait for the release of your bird!

Just to prove LDR aren't a 'Fly by night' operation... I thought I'd use this rather punny opportunity to post some night time teasers... Now you have a reason to fly in the dark this Halloween!

Is it RXP compatible? Option to cut the 3d knobs on the GPS (flat panel fit to retrofit)?

Firekitten
November 1st, 2013, 04:28
I'm afraid it isn't... Problem is, its not a 2d default GPS like most developers use... the whole unit is a fully 3d GPS... the only 2d gauge area in there is the screen, the rest is hard coded into the model. Perhaps at a later date we might look into it, but with us at imminent release state, its not something we could investigate at this moment.

Ok thanks for answering. Perhaps in a future update.
Night lighting looks great!

Firekitten
November 1st, 2013, 08:04
Well to be honest with you, I'm not sure we plan to update it short of bug fixing... It's freeware at the end of the day, and we're doing our best to make it the best aircraft possible, but once its finished, we will be moving on to other aircraft rather than revisiting this one. If there was a high demand for RXP support, I guess we could look at it... but it would have to be high demand... other projects are looming that are starting to take our time over.

Fear not, I've been working on the conversion to the Navion A/L-17B for a few days now. Most external changes are done but the inside will need a complete re-work so don't expect anything before next spring!

No RXP, no problem :)

Firekitten
November 2nd, 2013, 06:04
Don't fret... if we get chance to look at it, we might ok? I can't promise, but I won't rule it out.

Anneke, it's always possible to add RXP as a 2D popup panel in the panel.cfg. As long as the RXP.ini file specifies 'link GPS = on', then any flight plan you enter on the RXP 2D popup will still show on the non-RXP GPS in the virtual cockpit. It's a pretty easy mod that I've always done with planes that have embedded 3D GPS units in the VC. It is a bit of a compromise, but it always works like a charm.

This release looks fantastic. Looking forward to it!

mgchrist5 and firekitten, thanks very much for the tips and tricks.

Is that Hello Kitty paint still around somewhere? My 4y old daughter asks for release about every day because of that paint :icon_lol:
