Hi,

With the release of the superb Skysim Mirage III/V package we have finally got a Mirage III build to the highest FSX standards. It has been a long wait, but it has definitely been worth it.
I want to thank Mark Harper and the rest of the Skysim team for taking on the old French lady!
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p>
The Skysim package includes the Mirage IIIE and IIIRD which are identical to the Mirage IIIEZ and IIIRZ used by the SAAF. I have also included textures for a Mirage IIIR2Z even if this model has a few differences from the IIIRD (no Doppler radar fairing under the nose, stronger Atar 9K50 engine and an updated cockpit).
<o:p> </o:p>
It has taken a great deal of time and effort to try to make these repaints as realistic as possible, but it is impossible to make such repaints 100% accurate without standing on the real aircraft itself. The “Border war” years of SAAF history is still covered with much secrecy and it has been difficult to find reference materials on some of the aircraft/ specific areas of the aircraft/decals etc. So in the end some part of the schemes and decals have been made as my “educated guess” on how they looked like. Feel free to drop me a note on email if you can help me with reference pictures or information!
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p></o:p>I want to thank Frank “Mirage” Safrenek for his priceless help with both research and detail Mirage knowledge in this project, THANK YOU!

Both the repaints and a short article about the Mirage III in South African Air Force service are available at Frank Safreneks super Mirage web site:

Thank you JensOle for your hard work! :ernae:

I believe you made more liveries for the Mirage, which ones and most importantly when will you release them?

Great to hear that people enjoy the SAAF repaints!

Currently I have four more repaints soon to be relased; 3 Neshers and a Saudi/Egyptian Mirage 5SDE.
But I'm also looking into making an early Belgian 5BA or BR in silver/bare metal.

Are there any IAF repaints that would work with SkySims Mirage?

Please let me know!

You mean Israeli Air Force? Jens-Ole painted three pre- or early 1973 war schemes.
They will be available for download probably tomorrow. Image at the link below.

Have you changed the texture.cfg file?

I just checked the R2Z download myself and the files should work if the instructions in the readme are followed. As it is also mentioned in the readme, it is possible install the textures the simple way as just an add on repaint for the main mirage III pack and not as a dedicated IIIR2Z with the extra engine power.

yes i have renamed the cfg....

Have you made a new folder with the R2Z files in the main aircraft folder? Ypu may alsow ant to check that all sub folders are where they should be.

Hello JensOle

and congratulations to these superb repaints

I would like to know were these Mirages III were located in South Africa during their operational career.

A list of airports would be fine for all of us.

It seems also you want to offer us in the future other Mirage III repaints ?

What about these ones from Spain ?
And take a look at all Mirage profiles presented at
http://www.wings.de.ms
Lets call it an explosion of colours:isadizzy:

Bravo !

Hi,

The bases used by the SAAF Mirage squadrons during their service life is mentioned in the readme files and also at the top of this post.

I have been thinking about a Spanish IIIEE, it is actully a rather easy job since I already have the green/grey scheme. What I need from you is hi res pics showing the special decals(canopy release button text etc)/danger signs-decals etc painted on Spanish AF IIIEE's. Also of particular interest is the no walk and airbrake markings on top of the wing
These pics need to be "close in" so that I can see the text.

Finding the needed reference pics and information is often as demanding as making the paint itself. But it is fundamental in order to make a realistic repaint.

Isn't that the stone cold truth. Drawings are a source of inspiration at best -- nothing more. There is way too much opportunity for artistic license by whoever made them. Photos of the real aircraft from various angles and hopefully all shot on the same day are the only way to go. And with the internet at your finger tips that information is available if you are willing to put in the hours needed to find it.

Yes Israeli Air Force,

Thank you! Where should I find these?

I haven't uploaded them yet. Jens-Ole sent them to me to package and verify the correct cockpit textures are being pointed to (these textures sets only include the external textures). But I will get that done tonight.

I have to go up to the hanger this afternoon (time for the annual)
but I'll double check how I packaged it when I get back. It's most
likely just a "texture.cfg" file issue but it requires more time than
I have just now to verify that.

Wow, I sure botched that one. it was a combination of cfg files and not having the model file in the new folder, etc. Bunch of stuff. Anyway, all sorted now, I think. Please go back to the original download page and pull the file again. Do read the readme file as it has changed.

http://www.mirage4fs.com/slides15.html (http://www.mirage4fs.com/slides15.html) (last aircraft on the page)

I have not uploaded the change to avsim or flightsim yet so it you pull it from there you are wasting your time and their bandwidth. I'll upload it to there once someone reports back that it works.

Hey this my first video.
It didn't quite come out like I wanted because as soon as I wanted to record using fraps it disabled my TrackIR. So it's a bit of hash and that includes my flying while trying to do other things at the same time. :icon_lol:
Anyway... thanks Skysim for a great add-on which is really fun to fly. Thanks also to the maker/s of the repaints.

And it would be really cool if this could be on a future add-on

They are up on avsim.com this morning. Search in the File Library for "Mirage" and then sort by date.

And nice video, SirBenn21! :applause:

Hi,
I finally got my hands on the updated Mirage, and first of all I must say I'm very grateful for the new models and loadout!

The new JL100 combo matra rocket pod/fuel tank (which was much used by the SAAF in the real world) will NOT work with my SAAF repaints due to the new texture mapping. That is the bad news...the good news is that I'm updating my textures with the new texture mapping!

I will also include several other updated textures. My repaints are "constant" work in progress, even after release, due to the fact that new pics and other reference sources become available and I can improve the repaints. The JL100 texture issue is a perfect reason for making the other updated textures available.
