I really don't need another 172, but I am tempted. I was wondering if anyone who gets it can clarify a couple of things listed as features
Four naturally animated passengers that can sit in any seat including the pilot’s., does this mean I can have people in the VC while flying? That would be a selling point for me.
Designed for both professional commercial pilot training and entertainment. Does this mean I can switch between accusim mode and get in and fly mode? I would use the later if available more than the accusim one due to time

Michael,

Pilot and passengers are in the external model. Putting a single person in the J-3 who thinks and talks is a big footprint in that code. Doing something like that, X4, would have been too much especially considering the major new features, like the virtual walk around.

There is a DAMAGE button you can hit, if you want to disable any components failing or wearing, but keep in mind, the C172 is a reliable aircraft. You could easily have 20 or more flights w/o any kind of issue in flight, or in the walk around. It's really best to just fly the plane. It's easy, just like a real 172.

Just be very careful to not apply any other simulation experiences to this product. Our sole source of information and inspiration is from the real plane. This is a rugged, reliable machine and Accu-Sim reflects that,

Scott.

Ive got close to 2500 hrs in type and this is one of the most basic aircraft to fly.Do not worry about accusim being to tough if you just want to buzz around. It would be hard to damage the engine I would imagine. I have not tested any landing damage modelling but a 172 is as stable as it gets.I just finished my first shakedown flight and its a good one.The first thing I thought was it felt like a "Realair" airplane which is a compliment. You get that light ,responsive handling that you can feel everything yet its not pitchy.Responds to Activesky weather, winds etc very well.Graphics and sounds and A+. I just landed with a 13k direct crosswind and it handled realistically.Nice sounding side forces from the tires.Fps on my system stayed locked with no stutters so thats good. After flying the Warbirds, airliners or fighters its going to get boring quick but a realistic 172 is a almost must have in the hanger.

Yeah its a good one.
Its hot and humid here in SC with some shifty winds. And guess how the 172 handles.Yup,like its hot humid with shifty winds lol.

I have not done any unusual attitudes or ran through any stalls but it feels like a high wing Cessna. Seems like it needs a lot more juice than normal to get it moving from a dead stop on the ground but I understand FSX is wierd when it comes to that.
Lots of nice details that I will not spoil but try clicking on everything in the cockpit like the headphones, windows.Speaking of sound.I am very picky about sounds and these are top notch and I doubt I will touch a thing.

Only issue which is no biggie and no I have not RTM yet is I cannot turn the autopilot on via the vr pit button. I have to hit the keyboard key assigned to autopilot on. Anyone know what the default autopilot key assignment is?

I may have to get this... Here at Embry-Riddle, all the planes are Glass Cockpit, so I've been missing the old steam gauges I got my private on. These look really nice!

Is it carbureted or fuel injected? I'm still getting used to the different start up sequences with the fuel injected planes. (I can't stand that fuel injected planes start with the mixture out, whereas the carbureted planes start with the mixture full forward.) In the VC pictures, it looked fuel injected. Is it?

Sure wish we could get a DME2 in the "No GPS" config. I know you can view another frequency independent from N1 but it'd be nice to see N1 DME and N2 DME at the same time.

Was happy to dig out the old low alt airway charts for the USA. This one's going to be an instant classic! :jump:

Here are some screenies. Flight from Orcas Island to Harvey Field. First one it is parked next to default AI 172, you can see the detail differences. Have to say, this 172 is another winner from A2A. :salute:

I bought it today. a2a did a great job with it. I fouled the plugs unitentionallyand then cleard them as described in the manual.

It is a simpe slow trainer, but trying to fly it right is going to be a long term project for me. I am not a rw pilot but i have landed a 172 a couple of times with an instructor. This is as close to that experience as i can get so far with fsx.

Thanks a2a.

Wanted to get that one to get a real sensation of flying. Got some money on my hands right now, so I bought it. I must say I am pretty much impressed. This captures the spirit of aviation. Remembered me a lot about those times when we went out to fly with our neighbour in a Pa 28-181 or quite this C172!

I think this will be right what I wanted, a chance to learn basic avionics and navigation in flightsim, so that one day, when I get the money together I will be well prepared to go into flight school!

None of this is edited in any way.

Hope that´s not too many screens here...

In final I can only recommend this with the single exception that it takes some PC power to run. At least that is what it feels like for me. Still quite acceptable, but a tad harder than the Accusim warbirds.

Edit: You can see them full sized when you click on the images and through some zoom buttons at photobucket.

I believe Accufeel is disabled when Accusim aircraft are being used. Meaning you can't utilize AccuFeel, as the Accusim package is already running for the aircraft.

All the high wing Cessnas I flew back in the 80s made city buses seem as sterile as operating rooms. But looking back $30 bucks a hour for a 172 wet was a bargain.
Also I remember one of the 152s our FBO rented was being worked on and I was called over. All the mechs were standing around laughing. After alot of complaints about the smell one mech popped the side door panels off.Out dropped about 200 cigarette butts! They then started doing that to all the trainers and there must have been 1000 butts in a pile. The owner taped as many as he could fit on one of the cork boards in the flight school and it stayed up almost a year.
It was also very popular to drop bags of flour. That was until one exploded when the pass tried to get it out the window.
There was also a incident where one taxied in with a pair of underwear stuck wrapped around the tail but thats another story.
So yeah, painters feel free to roughen the paints up and a weathered interior would be very popular.Grass, muck on the skirts, speckled leading edges ....

I could not resist and had to go over to Avsim and see how much bitchin was going on.Sure enough its 11 pages and growing. A2A is hard at work on releasing a hotfix to deal with some issues mainly disapearing touch spots. Also the excessive ground friction I noticed along with cockpit settings not being saved.
I crashed the plane today due to a ap altitude hold glitch.I hit either alt or arm and the plane within 2 seconds pitched over until inverted. Also I changed the elevator_effectiveness in the cfg from 2 to 1.Made a nice difference.

I thought the ground friction issues I was having with it were because of my screwed up settings. I also have this issue with a few other payware a/c.

I flew the 172 years ago, while dad was in the south Pacific.
From what I remember this plane has the same characteristics as the one I flew....The 172 is one of the best training aircraft on the market today, Its a very forgiving aircraft.

Looks great! Keep up the great work!

WIP of my dear old SX-AWD outside the Athens Aeroclub hangar in Tatoi. After having painted this for the Carenado model, the A2A paintkit was a blast.

The realone is actually an "M" model so I'm going to release it after I've managed to repaint the interior to be cream with light blue leather seats and door panels.

This one will be next, same airport, different club. My favorite ride so far in my limited flying time (a "P" model this time, quite posh inside, needs to have black panel, brown leather seats and tinted glass):

Just a heads up to those of you who have Saitek FIPs in your pit and are considering buying the A2A 172. Suggest you read this thread first !

That's a (sad) showstopper for me.

I added some dirt to the Interior-Textures. Not much but it looks not so "sterile" now (imho) :icon_lol:

Well, the interior of the older models is so much different that I decided it is not worth trying to change the colours only (there are no headrests, the door sides are plain and the panel has an extra cover). I will release the exteriors of SX-AWD and SX-AEW in a few days. I hope I'll be able to at least do the tinted glass in AEW.

This is the Tatoi AB Scenery, the first one I made a couple of years ago. It is available here and at AVSIM.

I have been working on it over the years mainly to reduce the cliffs and plateaus due to the difference in elevation north and south. I have not released any updates as they are still WIP. You may however get the latest version here:

May I suggest a solution for easy use of Dirk's internal textures?

Create a new folder inside "A2a_c172" called:
\interiors
In this folder copy all of Dirk's provided inner textures folders like:
\black
\black_d
etc.

Now you choose the C172 texture you want to change the interiors.
Open \texture.xxxx
Backup the original texture.cfg
Open texture.cfg with a notpad and change as following:

[fltsim]

fallback.1=..\..\A2a_c172\interiors
fallback.2=..\..\A2a_c172\interiors\blue_d
fallback.3=..\texture

Save

In this example I chose \blue_d. You can change this into any of the provided colors.

Almost there with the SX-AEW too. I got the right tint on the glass but some of it has spilled on the landing light glass too. I can't seem to find their location on the glass texture. Any hints appreciated.

Michal at A2A admitted the light is strangely mapped and they will correct it in the patch. I will wait for it so it is correct.

Meanwhile the SX-AWD has been uploaded here at SOH and soon at Avsim:

Hi, not planned yet, but it's a lot of US skins in the web. Here is a list with near all repaints for A2A C172 in the web: http://www.freewarescenery.com/repaints/a2a-c172.html .
