Thanks to a great deal of help, patience and understanding from Paul Dominque and the denizens of FSDeveloper, I've actually been able to make a bit of progress on the boat.. Walls and various other surfaces are now in place as are place holder textures for the majority of the boat, and i'm almost ready to start don the VC before adding the other little details that make a boat a home.. Enjoy :)..

Indeed she is really shaping up. Francois better keep an eye out with his D-Day landings scenery. These E-Boats were very active during the rehearsal, sinking several Allied vessels before D-Day. Thanks Pam for keeping us posted with the updates.

Awesome! Nice work, Pam.

Isnt it cool that we have boats and vehicles to work with, not just planes and jets?

Hehe. stopped lookng at FSX as a flight simulator alone many moons ago.. or me, its a World simulator. Perhps even a time machine of sorts. If say we take Francois Normandy scenery, toss in a few hundred AI american boats A few gliders, a whole lot of German firepower and some software that can actually target your ship or plane and shoot you down or sink you ( yes, its being developed ) and you have the Normandy invasion to explore, re-live: Or WWI, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, or any place and time. Bring some friends in multiplayer, and shoot them down ::lol:; You can do anything in FSX. All you gotta do is dream.

Someone mentioned Operation Tiger. It was a Practice run for the normandy invasion and the Allies most embarrassing black eye. The Germans got word that there was a bunch of allied activity going on in the channel, so they dispatched their boats. I believe that five boats were sortied. During the "maneuver", the two cruisers that were too escort the practice convoy were back in port. One was broken down, and i dont recall what was wrong with the other one. It left the convoy almost entirely defenseless.. The flotilla closed in and began sinking transports, which were loaded with men. I "think" It was the Ajax that was able to finally respond, and one S-boat ran interference against it as the others made their escape. The S-boat was sunk, and its men taken prisoner. you can find their interrogation testimony online.. Normandy itself was another matter.. Five oats were dispatched from Cherbourgh. Upon reaching the invasion site, the lead boat saw the size of the invasion force and decided discretion was the better part of valor.

The men of the S-boats took no joy in torpedoing merchantmen or laying mines. Not one i've seen or read interviews of considered that to be ( for lack of a better term ) a warriors job. Destroyers, light cruisers, that was one thing, but unarmed civilians grated against their nerves as much as it grated against ours. I'm beginning to be able too see past the swastika, Past Berlin, to the individual people who were just wearing a uniform as I did, and just doing their jobs, being soldiers..

::Edit:: I found this great re-inactment forum yesterday that has an amazing amount of stuff on these boats.. In case anyone is interested. heres the link:: http://www.panzergrenadier.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=8293

::Edit 2 :: Francois. About half way down the above link theres a picture of the S-boat pens at Cherbourgh. I recognized the three roofs of the ferry building in the background. The Pens are located in that basin area to the southwest of the main harbor where that bridge i spoke to you about is located..

Thanks hairyspin.. I'd love to be able to say the lines are mine, but they arent.. Someone else did the Hull, another person at some university did the vmrl of the stuff on the deck. Theres a lot of my own work going into it besides the flight/float model, but its mostly little stuff. The optical targeting and range finding system, the radios in the VC, the voice tubes on the bridge, the walls making it possible to not have to see through the outer shell and the animations and gauges. its a kit bash. I'm just one small person in amongst a whole lot of other people who make it possible to be done..

Bill (Lionheart) also donated some great stuff for the cause...... so yes, we'll have to build defenses against Pam's E-boats ! :salute:

Hi Pam, I'm glad to hear about all the progress ya'll have made, maybe it's time to start deployment into Navel Engagement and give her a test run w/full armament for a complete evaluation? How sweet it is...!:icon_lol:

Nice progress here, Pam. Love the screenshots.

I'm working on the Solomons again and I have a special plan for the small "Todd City" Naval installation on Rendova Island, where JFK was stationed with PT-109. I'm sure you'll love it. One of my dreams...

Cheers,
Mark

Mark.. That would be amazingly wonderful.. It turns out that the chinese nationalists army had six S-14 class boats in their navy, so it wouldnt be too far a stretch of the imagination to find one or two floating around the solomons :)..

Migbait :).. Been so buried in the boat modeling that I didnt see your post till now.. I'd love to take the boat out for a spin under Naval Engagement. I'm running into problems with the torps though. I can get the tube doors open, and I can animate the torps, but i cant find an association to use so they work in fsx.. bear with me here .. :)..

The best dreams are those that can be shared, isn't it so? Way to go! Let's see what we can come up with!

If that comes near my carrier we will have to prosecute heavily. Maybe I better add some FRAMS as escort. :)

indeed :).. Lets! :) :) :)

That'll make Cherbourgh and the Solomons. Rotterdam's waterways are near hopeless requiring more of an acrobat than a boat, and the Yangzee river near Shanghai is so big its almost not worth turning the clock back, even if my dad's boat WAS there. Not being a programmer, I cant make the torpedo data computer work, but running patrols through the slot under navl engagement or even in single play and running up on some japanese ships whould be a lot of fun, regardless if its in the PT boat, or the schnellboot..

:::LOL::: First you gotta catch me.. Then you gotta deal with the crew :) plus, 1 2CM machine gun on the foredeck, 1 dual 2cm anti aircraft gun amidships, and one 4cm bofors or flak gun on the afterdeck .. The germans even developed a quad 2cm beast that they put on the latter boats of the war in the S-200 class.. :::LOL:; gods, this could be fun.. historically One boat, decided to weave its way through an American convoy and came abeam of the lead cruiser where it stayed for half an hour, till someone finally noticed it and radioed for their ID..
