I’m building a new system and need some opinions on processors. Here are the 2 that I am considering:

- Pentium 4 630 w/ HT (3.0GHz, 800FSB)

- Pentium D 820 w/ Dual Core (2.80GHz, 800 FSB)

The 820 is $100 more. Is it worth it at this point?

One of these will be teamed up with 2GB SDRAM at 533MHz 4DIMMS.

My system budget is around $1200. Right now Dell is offering no interest until May ’07. I am not a tech head so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks-
Moses

the 3 ghz is better, but anything over 3 GHz you will run into a heating problem, its microwaves u-know.

my 3.4 GHz has 13 fans running 5 of them are 120 mm fans, and it sounds like a vaccum cleaner running, heck I even had to install a fliter system on it and change the filters weekly, they fill right up.

Ickie I just ordered a Pen 3.4...I am also thinking of going to that Zalman water cooler for the processor and Video card. You got any good ideas on the water cooler...Mike

Moses....your best kick for the money is the processor, memory, and card. If ya wanna see something fly you should look at those WD 10,000 rpm drives. They are smokers and can read mighty fast. They load fast and can start your system fast. When you install Window XP it shows it takes about 39 minutes. With those high speed drives you can install the complete OP in eleven minutes. When ya finish building I wanna see some pictures...Mike

Tip I always make when I hear the word Dell: Don't do Dell. :costumes:

Ickie, with all those fans wouldn't it be worth it to just go to water cooling?
