Cap'n T, the common thread to your comp challenge is a POOR GROUND somewhere on the MoBo.

Every time you got the system to fire up, a cable had to be removed ~ that jostles the mother board and reconnects the bad ground long enough to light it up. After a bit, the heat from operation makes the ground tenuous ~ and when it cools down ?

Challenge returns.

My guess is a loose set of MoBo screws... or a cracked motherboard / bad ground.

Good Luck

Capn, I am with sc on this. I am leaning toward a crack in the MB soldering.

Those beeps have meaning dependent upon how many.

How new/old is the PC? Is it still under warranty?
Where have you been taking it for service?
What brand is it?

I have been running XP SP3 now, XP SP2 on both of mine; for over two years on the PC; and just since Nov-Dec on the laptop. Not even a hiccup out of either one.

I have heard that sometimes over heating and/or the power supply can cause really weird symptoms. We all have a love-hate relationship with our pieece of s--t computers, sometimes a little heavy on the "hate" side.

Do not blow it up yet please. First kick it. Then fry it. After that burn it and then shot it.I had a E-machine before. It work beautifuly for a while then it got fried by the electrical power surges. Lucky for me I had everything backup on a backup Hardrive.

I will probably never buy another one in my life.

Good luck!

then it got fried by the electrical power surges.

Yo M.E.;

ALL computers & peripherals MUST be plugged into a surge protection powerbar.

ALL computer manufacturers specify this. Recommend you ****.

$20 - $50 is a cheap price to pay to protect hundreds of dollars worth of computer. Not to mention the "priceless" data saved in them.

Quality surge protection manufacturers usually supply a warranty & will replace your damaged equipment should their product fail.

****

We get allot of surges up here in Kanada in the wintertime .... in the summer it's OK cuz we get our power frum Niagara Falls (Viagra Falls?)

But in the winter; the falls freeze over & we need to use 10,000 beavers running on treadmills to power our country.

Just a "heads up" from your: "Friendly Neighborhood Dirtman"

I feel your pain Bro. :amen:

The less expensive units will often fail. (ya only get what cha pay for!!)

BUT the equipment protection warranty is ONLY VALID IS YOU KEEP THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING AND SALE RECEIPT.

Which of course we all throw away immediately!!

anyways is there a lemon law for computers LOL

Good luck with your problem. Computers can cause an awful lot of grief. I bought two from one place (that is now out of business) and had the first one back in that shop 6 times. The manager ended up getting abusive with me! I ended up getting the guts ripped out and putting a new PC in the case. Never could get it to work as advertised. If you find a good computer repair store dont let them go as most places know just as much if not less than you do. :faint:
