I think I'll be getting this one. I love this helo design. I also have all the other planes that Area 51 have done and they are pretty nice.

Thanks Roland - your shots make it look promising - what do you think about it? should I get it or enjoy flying the one in the new ARMA3?

Well excuse me not to look past the title of that thread while using the search function: "RAH-66 Comanche in development".

Had a bad day?

Gentlemen, life is too short to be bothered by the little things. Can we reacquire the new release from Area51 as a point of focus?

It's really nice to see these sorts of projects come to fruition, it's a slick looking helo.

They need to hire Roland to take the promotional screenshots of this helo. Going by what is shown on the purchase page I never would have bought it even at the reasonable listed price.

Yes I agree - just buying now thanks to some clear screenshots from Roland.

Just found a paint kit!

Very early start on Desert scheme (don't judge the product by this image!!).

I have to say that this product is exceptionally good. The texturing even in the VC is of good quality. It very good on FPS and is stable in flight and hover. With exceptional visiablity from the VC is great to tour in! But can be rolled and looped as you would expect for a combat chopper.

Nice job on the paints. Had a chance to see this thing first hand back in 04, and it was actually smaller in person than expected. Just wish A51 would update their gauges, they use the same in all helo models. It works I guess, no documentation on the real stuff anyway.

Please download from here...........http://share.cx.com/4sybRW

Note that as the pilots are not part of the paint kit I have not been able to keep all the detail of the flightsuits. Perhaps a more skilled repainter will be able to do it.

Hi. Im working on this fictional NASA repaint but getting bored. Does anyone want it? If so I will finish it!

I will take the dirt off and try to get the stripe to follow the contour of the fuselarge.

A NASA Comanche is not really my thing, to be honest (hopefully I am the only one), but would you perhaps consider some sort of ‘polar’ skin?

That is vry nice of you, Barnes! Here is a link to a painting of a British Harrier in snow camo:
http://www.military-art.com/mall/more.php?ProdID=7347. Is this an inspiration? I hav no precise ideas on how a polar Comanche could look. Perhaps changing the colors of your desert skin to white, gray and dark blue migh do it.

Whatever you make, I'm sure we''ll like it.

By the way, you also posted on the AMA Comanche. Can you tell us how it compares to the Area 51 one? Does it have a Helmet-Mounted Display and various sensors?

Thanks in advance for your efforts!

Hi Thanks I will do the snow camo for you. Do you want it as a brit?

The AMA comanchie is very similar to the AMA Longbow if you ever flew that. I doubt it the flight dymamics are anywhere close but they are OK. Yes the helmet displays works up to a point at the moment as it is still all in beta. It might be worth asking once the product is fully released.

Helo Barnes,

This is perfect! Just what I would imagine a polar skin would look like on the real thing. The U.S. Army is fine with me. I checked whether Apaches had a national insigna but they don't, so there is no need for it on the Comanche. That was my only issue. Thank you so much for making it! I'm sure others will enjoy it as well.

Thanks for the information on the AMA Comanche. It seems encouraging, and a perfect FM is splendid, but an adequate one is sufficient to enjoy flying it.

Barnes, I don't have the A51 RAH-66 yet, but I may have to buy it just for your repaints.....and I haven't flown FSX in months. Great job.

As for a suggestion or two (since the Comanche never entered service, anything can go):
Navy scheme
Marine scheme
Air Force (like the Osprey's paint job maybe)

Just ideas, I don't expect you to do them.

Now...off to look at the A51 page.....

I took the plunge and noticed that the HUD only projects on the front windscreen, despite having buttons for the HUD in both cockpits.

Is it flown like a typical gunship with the pilot in the rear and the gunner up front?

Here is the panel text for the HUD:

[Vcockpit03]
file=$vc3.bmp
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=1024,1024
visible=0
pixel_size=1024,1024
texture=$vc3
gauge00=Rah66!HUD, 116,116,768,768

If I change the numbers, will this move the HUD back to the rear pilot's view?

As an interim, I may add the HUD overlay from Dino's F-35 to mimic a HMD.

Great repaints BTW. Woulda, coulda, shoulda...

Jeff, is there a possibility to replace the default HUD with the F-35 HUD? I don’t like the default HUD very much.

What I PM'd to Stickshaker was that the HUD is stuck in place in the front cockpit. This is due to the front cockpit being the primary eye point and the actual pilot's cockpit to the rear is simply a shift in eye point via the aircraft.cfg

So, if you want a proper pilot's HMD/HUD, you'll have to add one via a text edit to the panel.cfg and add a 3rd Party HUD gauge.

I added Captain Sim's Weapon X to it, so I'll use that as an HMD and fly that way.
