Not sure if this has already been posted, but it looks like JF has a DC-8 in the works! I've always had a soft spot for these old birds.

I did a quick search through the SOH forums and didn't uncover any posts on this yet...but mods, please feel free to delete if this is a duplication of previously posted news.

And not before time too, an overlooked aircraft.

DC-8, cool. I got to ride on one in 1989, from Diego Garcia to Manila. Oh, and don't forget the freighter version... :icon_lol:

Bravo!

With such a long and diverse family, it must not have been easy as to which model to pick - assuming they only model one. I would have rather seen the 50 series instead of what appears to be an earlier 30 series - but hey, that's just my view. Also, if I'm correct about the model they've chosen, it precludes a C/F option (sorry freightlover chaps). Still, I'm just glad they didn't only model either the stretched or CFM-engine later models - the early 30/40/50s are (in my view) the quintessential DC-8. So I'm already happy at this stage.

Inevitably, if/when repaints emerge that cross between models, the purists and rivet counters will complain about inaccuracy (XYZ scheme didn't fly on this model, etc) , others will draw the inevitable comparisons to the HJG models (which incidentally, I continue to enjoy to this day, and such a comparison is apples and oranges in any event!).... I can see it already. Whatever - I'm so sick of the haters and whiners in this hobby of late. Any way you look at it, it's good news - I will be in line for sure, assuming it's FPS friendly.

After this launch, my FSX native airliner/bizjet bucket list will be down to only the Lockheed JetStar II and Convair 880/990. Life is good. Bring it on, JF - there are still a lot of good DC-8 experts in our community - this has every chance of being a great model.

Cheers,

DL

would also like to see the freighter......up until a couple years ago....I would drive to Philly International on many days just to catch the departure of the UPS DC-8 in the early am.

March 31st, 2009 was the last wheels up of a UPS DC-8 at Philly Int'l.......and what a great sky I had to photograph it.

Woohoo!!!! CP, TCA, SWR, Pan Am, SAS, ... I can barely believe the dreams could possibly come true.

Sounds like if a 50 is in there, a C/F (combi/freighter option is now viable). Not that anyone wants one - if they had, they'd have spoken up by now ... :icon_lol: ... :running:

It's about time. I worked with Dream Fleet when they were developing the DC-8. It's a shame it got dropped. I have thousands of hours flying it, both as a Professional Flight Engineer and First Officer. I can tell you that there is no better aircraft out there. When you flew the airplane, you flew it. Not manage it as you do the newer aircraft. It could be a beast to fly. Especially three engine non precision approaches, you still did the old dive and drive method, not the VNAV profile. On the other hand, cleaned up and on speed it was just beautiful.

Sometimes when I am over at Travis AFB, I see a DC-8-62F depart which is always a treat.

ATI's last DC-8 flight to Travis was a few months ago.

Guys, there is hardly a rendition of the actual mass production models around and you're already talking about one-off birds...

That's NOT to hijack the thread

Still till Bazzar is ready you have an option to Fly without VC-->HJG Aer Turas DC-8-63F

Or FS2004 Payware Aerosim DC-8 with VC(thats the VC picture)

And thats the progress of the HJG DC-8-71 with VC(Bazzar will be way(year) earlier*

Some fantastic models, without a doubt:applause:, but I personally never use 2D panels any more as I find the VC (especially when it's well modelled) to be much more immersive. :)
