View Full Version : Crikey!

In its day it was faster than a Spitfire and with 4 Hispano 20mm cannon in the nose it was the most heaviest armed fighter in the world.
It earned the nickname 'the Crikey'.

Conversion of Kazunori Ito's FS2004 model. I have been unable to contact him ref permissions and his readme is pretty strict on conditions so without wishing to upset anyone I don't know if it'll make release, but I just had to have one!
I suppose long term I could build one from scratch unless there's any others lurking about out there?

Clive,

Yer tis Joost. Needs a fair bit of work but the basics are there and the gauges will all be standard RAF types. I don't know why he's painted it blue though, afaik all RAF service a/c were green on the insides.

I've found this model by J R Lucariny which has no copyright restrictions so I think I'll forget the Ito one and go with this instead.
There's no VC so will have to make that from scratch. It'll take a bit longer but at least my conscience will be clear! :)

There's a number of Kazunori Ito's on Facemuck, are you sure this is the right chap James?

...Facemuck...

LOL - I take it you're not a member of 'the world's biggest social community'?? :icon_lol:
The first one (Ito's) looks a bit more refined (thanks for the cockpit screenie!) but what do I know? Regardless of the choice you make, it 'll be another fine piece of aviation hardware to add to the catalogue!

Marvellous project! I hope something comes of it - with a bit more care during the design stage, this aircraft could have been a huge success!

Could this mean (gasp) that there may soon be a "Crikey" for CFS3? :applause: I've been dreaming about flying one of those ever since I built my first Whirlwind model kit (an Airfix 1/72 kit, if I'm not very much mistaken) way back in 1971!

What I know about what goes into building or modifying aircraft for CFS3 could be painlessly inscribed on my forehead with a dull spoon...I only know how much fun I have flying...and oh yeah, I STILL dream about flying a "Crikey" at least a few times a week.

Please, please keep me posted on any new developments!

Because of other commitments, lack of interest etc. :) my work on this has stopped BUT one of our much more talented modellers is going to be making a brand new one! Can't say when or who at the moment but going on his previous work it will be a masterpiece :) :applause:

Hmmm, iirc the Whirlwind had nose guns:-

Thank you very much for that welcome bit of news, and I am absolutely overjoyed to hear that! Flying "rhubarbs" over Calais is bound to be a lot more fun in a "Crikey" than in a Hurry or a Spit. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not implying that the Hurry and Spit are in any way, shape or form, "lacking in thrills"; quite the contrary, in fact, I have a deep and abiding love for the Hurry, and I happen to think she's a first-rate kite, albeit somewhat under-appreciated and/or overshadowed by "the plane that saved Britain."

That said, though, I can only imagine what four Hispano-Suiza 404's, all concentrated in the nose, will do to enemy columns, trains, rail yards and airfields!

Also, from all of my extensive (okay, more like "obsessive") reading on the subject, the "Crikey" can more than hold its own against the bf 109, provided you keep the scrap below 15,000 feet, so I'm eagerly looking forward to mixing it up with some "yellow-nosed bastards" over Western France and the Channel at the earliest opportunity.

Once again, thanks very much for the welcome news, and I'll be eagerly awaiting word of when the CFS3-compatible Whirlybird is ready to download! :applause:
