I am attempting to make a Zeppelin Hangar in GMax.

Wish me luck.

I have made a simple one with a front and back that looks VERY basic. I'm going to start adding to the basic model. I'll post pics as i get them.

Allen,
do you still have the GMax model of the L-44?
If so, could i have a copy?

Allen

Hi Bloodhawk
Although I am only an novice with GMax. I feel confident in my advice on this one.
You should make sure that you have no-smoking signs!
Cheers

The Germans had a base in Tonder, an area taken from Denmark after a war 1864, now again Danish. There is a very good site showing good pictures. The address is http://www.zeppelin-museum.dk/ If you mail them you may persuade them to send you drawings og the hangars - which they have.
Best regards
Finn

Finn,

Thank You for that info. Drawings would be great to have. there isn't alot of them on line.

Just finished looking at the site. that looks awesome. Not sure i can do those justice.

I hit gold!

The thread has model pics in color and some one has made the hangers for FS2004!

Lets try and track this down. maybe get the auther to make some CFS2 versions of the models.

Blood_Hawk23
May 25th, 2013, 14:16
Allen and I both have tracked them down. they were made by Alexander Belov
a_belov@mail.ru

I'm going to try and contact him for the hangar source files or see if he'll make them for CFS2.

Allen,
Question; Are you sure its big enough? those were 560' long x 120' wide x 95' tall, or there abouts. It looks small. maybe with the L-44 next to it it will look right.;)

other then that, it look outstanding.

heh mine looks like crap compared to that.

Allen
May 25th, 2013, 21:51
That is the size I have it. The L-44 won't fit inside of the “Tobias” or “Toni”. The L-44 is too long.

The L-44 should fit into the double-hangar or “Toska” shed that is length : 730 feet, wide : 220 feet, height : 130 feet

Wasn't too much work. Just a long 11 sided cylidner cut in half than in half again. It dosn't look to well close up but it will get the job done.

May 25th, 2013, 22:47
I didn't realize the L-44 was so big. Wasn't the L-7 one of the Zeppelins at that base. I think i read that in the post you made earlier.

Allen
May 25th, 2013, 22:56
L-7 was the first rigid airship in Tonder and only 518 feet.

Looks Like the HMS Furious has a mission. I guess i'll have to add some more to my scenery.

Allen
May 25th, 2013, 23:24
Could be something to look into

Also here is some more pics. I need to clean up some of the texture for the inside supports but that is about it. This should work fine for the Tonder “Tobias” and “Toni” hangars.

Being in the Hangar is vary Temple of Nod-ish for those Command & Conquer fans that know what I'm talking about.

Here's the L-44 inside and the L-63 outside of Toska hangar.

Alexander Belov made a very good rendition of the Cardington sheds as well.

I've heard back from Alexander. things are in the works.

the models are FSDS 1.61 versions with scasm editing for the animations. I believe the animations will be lost.

It will be great to get them. Add that to what Allen is working on and we can recreate nearly all of the Zeppelin bases.

I think Alexander did the hydrogen tanks as well. So maybe i'll see about those too.

Now who knows how to work with FSDS?

I see you were able to remove the FS2004 ground.

Blood_Hawk
I may be able to use Model Converter X on them. Than I could get them into gMax.

Allen,

I got your email. I'll look at them later. I'm working the next 2 so I can only do a little at a time.

I've recieved the files from Alexander. So check your email. I tried using modelconvertx and i got alot of errors. i can load it into FSDS but i don't know what to do with it.

UncleTgt,

If you read this, would you be willing to help?

I'm putting tight rains on this one. I told Alexander we wouldn't mistreat his work. I'm only going to give out one or 2 copies and thats about it. so who ever wants to help please PM me.

BTW, I've looked at it in FSDS, It looks great.

Hi Allen,

Yes, as with some of Alexander's other scenery, I removed the non CFS2 type of .bgl files.

Hi John,

So long as there's no texture mapping involved:isadizzy:, I'm happy to help any way I can.

Very good, I helped preserve the Zepplin files and am glad to see sheds are happening. These vast machines were essential for the German effort for WWI, and the sheds were essential for them as well. The Zep bases should be creatable now with the vanilla buildings and the other ancilarry items available. Well done!

I think Blood Hawk is planing to make the Brits raid on Tonder. So I need to do the double shed “Toska”.

Well I figured that it only makes sence.

We have the HMS Furious. We have Sopwith Camels. All I have to do is setup the Camels with a tail hook, Bombs and there you have it.

They only used seven Camels for the raid. Out of which two made it back to the Furious. Three landed in Denmark and two were lost. It doesn't say if they were shot down or if they crashed. It was about 90 miles to the hangars and they were very low on fuel. I figure put in three groups. Two with two planes each. the last Group with three. Maybe throw in some Albatros pursuit planes.

I think it will be a fun one too do.

From what I've read no Albatros's go off the ground. zeppelin-museum.dk says the landing field was rough and the planes were damaged in landing accidents offten. My guess is that all 5 were damaged and never took off.

Some info can be found http://www.tondernraid.com/tonder.htm

CrisGer

Have it.

CrisGer,
that version of the L-44 is outdated. we (Allen, OldWheat and myself) have completely revamped the
L-44. We have yet to release it. It will be avalable on the Aerocrate's site once we are ready

Allen,

I'll look the site over. I'll make it historical-ish. We have to have some excitement.

I have made the 50lb cooper bombs. there are no pic anywhere of them. but on the Tondern Site I found a pic of what was believed to be part of one of the bombs.

http://www.zeppelin-museum.dk/main.php?page=museum&id=bomb&lang

based on that pic this is what you get.

Thats on the Camel.

now its not the exact same. but that case is all distored. so who knows what it looked like before.

There are desciptions and pics on the net - just make a search for "cooper bombs WW1" and you will get lots of more or less good sites. This http://www.worldmilitarycollectables.com/viewitem.php?id=247 is a comercial site trying to sell one of those relics at a ghastly price - but there is a nice picture. I am looking forward to see the results of your efforts. I think that we have far too little WW1 material in CFS-2, and especially the Tondern raid was important, being the first carrierborne attack in history. I am amazed with the good results you already have - good work.:salute:

Thank you Finn. Its mostly just Allen and myself doing this.

I can find 20 lb and 25 lb Cooper bombs all day. But other than those i only get references to the 50 lb. Even the RL 65lb was hard to get info on.

I took hugh liberties on the 50lb Bomb. I May have the shape all wrong. It could be backwards for all I know.

Allen,

Man that is realy coming together. I might alpha my ground textures so they fade/blend a little. not sure just yet.

sounds good glad you have kept working on the Zepplin, i kept the files to preserve them for possible efforts, as the dp needed work glad you all have had a chance to do that. Good luck with it all and the hangars look great. Wish we had good ground textures with landscape but that will come eventually one can hope.'

I also have a Scapa Flow scenery that was started years ago, if you want to include it in your efforts.

:medals:

Finn
June 7th, 2013, 06:33
There is also a Scapa scenery on Thefreeflight site (ww1 for CFS-2) Maybe combined they would make one perfect? You say, you have a "partly finished" scenery, which from you normally means "almost perfect" so please do upload it:applause: It may even be used for other designers for totally different things - like the U-47 attack in 1940 (do we have a submarine sim in CFS-2?)
Finn

Blood_Hawk23

I think that the Scapa Flow scenery needs to be remade as a GSL scenery.
