Just got this because of the sale, should have got it sooner go figure. I would like to know if there are any black night fighter repaints for this and what should I use for the sounds? Virtavia dropped the ball as far as I'm concerned by not including a black paint job.

Our own Dave Quincey did a few schemes, on flightsim.com

This repaint for the payware Alphasim (http://www.fspilotshop.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=333&utm_source=flightsimcom&utm_medium=library&utm_campaign=sitelink) Northrop F-89J Scorpion depicts an aircraft allocated to the Iowa Air National Guard at Des Moines, Iowa. This aircraft 52-1949 was originally built as an F-89D but upgraded to F-89J configuration as were most F-89D's. It was struck off charge in the late 1960's and was rescued from the AMARC 'boneyard' in the the late 1970's. It can be still found parked at De Moines Int'l airport. By Dave Quincey.

No one else has mentioned a black scheme in the four and a half years since release. Pictures?

Okay, the reason I asked for a black paint job was the fact that I had acquired a set of black and white photos of various military aircraft from WWII thru the early 60s.one pic was that of an F-89 in gloss black ala the B-57's night intruder scheme. Doing a bit of nosing around I find that it was an XF or YF-89 and the black paint was dropped. It was mentioned on this page....

So anyway since it was not operational it's not that important now. Too bad, the B/W pic just oozed evil in the dark. Thanks for the replies anyway.:salute:

Yeah, I remember the prototype painted black. Just because it was never operational in that scheme doesn't mean you can't paint one like that and have fun anyway. :)

I may give it a try, more as a what if? paint job than anything else when I can find time. I did however stick the radar from the Virtavia F-104 in the VC, as well as add the CS Weapons gauges to it. I mean what good is a radar equipped night fighter with out a radar installed?
