Here are some screenshots from some more FSX formation flying over this past weekend. The flight was made out of Masterton (Hood Aerodrome), New Zealand, home of "The Vintage Aviator", where these same types can be seen
flying for real. All of the absolutely superb aircraft seen here are freeware.

Nice shots John. I can't look at the Brisfit without wondering about the fate of the extreme talented designer who made it.

Cheers,
Huub

What Se.5 is that? Is the old Alphasim freeware now?

Daube

Yes, this is one of the Alphasim freeware planes, and it's even FSX-native format !
In fact, it's the only Alphasim plane in my hangar :)

Fantastic shots John, as usual. Some of them are actually looking almost like real pictures. Thanks for sharing these. :ernae:

Screens like that , you would think New Zealands aviation photographer Gavin Conroy was here on the occasion :icon_lol: Brilliant screens .. now we did have a NZFFer working on a scenery to match this superbly .. guess have to give Nick a nudge and see how hes going with it  <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><input jscode="leoInternalChangeDone()" onclick="if(typeof(jsCall)=='function'){jsCall();}else{setT imeout('jsCall()',500);}" id="jsProxy" type="hidden"><input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><input onclick="if(typeof(jsCall)=='function'){jsCall();}else{setT imeout('jsCall()',500);}" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">

Thank you all for the replies! I too can't help but think and wonder about Robbie when I see the 'Biff' - probably most of all due to just such a big question mark about what may or may not have happened to him. To this day his model remains one of the most flown FSX WWI aircraft on my end, having been so lovingly well crafted to be a joy just to look at.

It was really a challenge to hold position with the 'Camel', and I'd very much encourage others to try it - it doesn't like to handle like you'd expect an ordinary aircraft to - there is certainly a reason why it was in the third slot. It was fun however to use the blip switch to control speed at times - coming up on the formation I could just blip the engine off and the airspeed would fall right off, just about like a speed brake, before letting the engine go again and adjusting the throttle to stay in position. It's also really something, to be looking under, over, and around the wings and through the flying wires on these aircraft in order to see the guy you're trying to stay in position with.

I'm sorry to rehash this old thread, but I thought I would post the types of real-life photos that provide me inspiration for these types of flights/screenshot 'missions'. : )

All the following photos come from The Vintage Aviator Ltd., showcasing some of the WWI aircraft they operate out of Masterton, New Zealand - which is also the general area where all of these photos were taken.

BTW, I'm really looking forward to Craig & Matt's Sopwith Pup! The second photo down shows TVAL's two Sopwith Pups.

Really must get to one of the air shows in Masterton one day. I have only seen the Camel, a few Triplanes and a Neiuport in action. Very keen to see the DH-2, Pup, Se-5a, Fee, Brisfit and Alabatross etc in action.

The Camel is fantastic - the sound is incredible (and loud when standing right behind it on start up) and quite disconcerting in flight with the blips of the rotary. In terms of incredible aircraft sounds ranks up there with the Merlin powered aircraft and other V12s ..although nowhere as musical of course.
