A beautiful rendering of one of my all-time favourite classic warbirds, but somewhat historically inaccurate.

The Avia S-99 was a straight-up copy of the 109 Gustav built in post-war Czeckeslovakia, mating left-over DB 600-series engines to newly built Gustav airframes, but the S-199 was a Jumo-engined version, essentally a Gustav with the same "business end" as the FW 190-Dora models, right down to the big three bladed "paddle" propeller and annular radiator.

As twitchy as the 109 can be on take-off runs, especially with a little crosswind to spice things up, try to imagine how much worse it would have been in the -199, with all that added torque! (Add too much throttle too soon on a take-off run and she'd try to corkscrew right into the ground!)

Avia started building Jumo-equipped S-199's only after they ran out of DB 600-series engines, so what you have there is actually an Avia S-99. (No worries, a quick re-name and you're off to the races, mate.)

Happy landings!
