Hi

If you read this thread....

You will know that Craig and I have been considering another collaboration after the Sopwith Camel... we opted in the end for another Sopwith... the Pup.

I've just delivered all the parts for a production standard Pup and a miriad of other parts to allow for all the variations (to mention a few an 80hp le Rhone rotary engine and a 100hp Gnome Monosoupape engine and it destinctive cowl). It's over to Craig now... I'm looking forward to seeing things develop.

I will just state here that we are considering making this payware but we shall see.

Here are some pics for now

Fantastic news! The model already looks superb, Matt, and I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing where Craig takes it next!

It's such an elegant design, with all of the right proportions - it just looks right, and that it would be an enjoyable experience to fly.

Awesome! Can't wait fly that little Pup. The Camel has been a blast. It's a good way to build some flying skills.

Been considering a Triplane as it has a lot of common parts with the Pup but for now I need to get back on with my latest train project.

Amazing. You've been busy Matt! Another great piece of history being made available. I love the modeling you've done. True art in my eyes.

By the way, what else do have tucked away? :icon_lol:

Well, I've only recently downloaded and tried out the Camel, but I have to say I've been pretty impressed with it. The Pup is probably the best WWI plane to fly (and clearly my favorite) and so given what I've seen from the Camel, I think I'd be interested in a payware Pup.

Not your bag I'm sure Oleboy, but I've got a part built F15C tucked away somewhere. The Pup is new... its only come into being in the last month or so. I put rather intensive effort into getting it done so Craig could start on its journey into FSX.

Just to show that progress is being made with this project. As you can see the VC is almost complete. Completing the External textures is the next task Craig is working on. He's done a fantastic Pilot figure for the Pup that has a scarf that flaps in the breeze which is very cool (it wasn't included in this particular build) but we'll show you that later perhaps when the external textures are done.

Excellent, Matt!

I thought of you and Craig when I saw this photo posted by "The Vintage Aviator", showing the cockpit of one of their 'Pup' reproductions (note the compass is of course not period correct - the correct original compasses are very hard to find these days). https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=471658849572036&set=pb.130953866975871.-2207520000.1369934270.&type=3&theater

Had to share with you these screenshots Craig sent of the Pup... for the first time its out of its pajama suit of temporary textures... but please bare in mind what you see is still WIP. The metal for example will be looking different (I've already worked out a way of doing that which looks real good)... more well metal like .

Craig did such a lovely job of the leather texturing of the cockpit combing I felt it should have 3D stitching and so over the weekend I made some and as you see Craig has already added it. What a job that was to do but I think it was worth it.

Details, when scaled proportionately add a lot of depth.
It's nice to see where the realism is being taken. :medals:

Is that the shuttleworth one? Its a beauty. It didn't fly at the flying evening I went to not so long ago because it was too windy which was a shame. There is a difference in the shape of the side metal with our model and what you see above, but we've modelled it as contemporary photos show it. What you see in pic above may be a result of its conversion from a Sopwith Dove. Gotta love that original 80Hp Le Rhone engine.

It is, yep. They put on a great show yesterday, and a few visitors added to the excellence. I'll be posting a thread soon hopefully, with all the decent shots (same as I did for the Duxford show). If you see anything you like, or might want for reference for future builds, just let me know :)

Release... sorry to say it wont be in a few weeks or anything like that. There still a lot to do, however we will keep you posted on progress here. This project is getting a lot of TLC from me and Craig and we want it to be something special.

I'll try and put up some pictures from the latest build myself as soon as I get time. Craig's configurator coding has added a great new element to the Pup. Items like the overwing Lewis Gun, 2 types of spinner and upper mid wing section can be changed at will to alter the appearance within the limits of the type of Pup modelled.

As mentioned earlier in this thread the Pup is most likely to be released as payware. It will come as three packs... a base pack and two add packs. We haven't finalized what will be what yet but the three distinct products will be 1) the Early Naval Pups often referred to as Beardmore type 9901a (Shuttleworth Pup is largely typical of those) 2) Production Standard Pup and 3)late war Colourful Trainer Pups. Type 1 gradually seemed to morph into type 2... so that a late type 9901a looked very similar to a production Std Pup (red cowled Julia above is a good example of a late 9901a). The Trainer Pups have some wonderfully gaudy paint schemes... There's a particular favourite of mine with a Monosoupape 100hp engine and Cowl and a humbug black and white paint scheme. I'm looking forward to seeing that one done.

Anyways things are progressing well... As well as some more variation models/Paints to get finished we have Custom sounds and FDE to get sorted... but we are getting there.

Pam... did you see that Craig has done a scarf that flaps in the breeze for this!

Some more pics from me. Sorry they are not that imaginative and all around the ACG's Duxford scenery but that's just where I like to do my test flying.

first a couple of an early Beardmore type 9901a with tripod mounted Lewis gun. Note Le Rhone engine in this one and rivets on front of cowl... home in time for tea and :medals:

A few of a later style 9901a
89383893848938689385

Another 66Sq paint... you may wonder why there are a few of them... that's my fault. 2 reasons.... they have interesting features like the over wing Lewis (SE5a style) and blunt spinners, and also I have the old Alphasim Western front scenery that has an RFC airfield with static Pups with similar markings which I thought it would go well with it:mixedsmi:

Sorry there hasn't been an update for a while but things have been hectic.

The news... Bernt has done a great job of the FDE but may still be tweaking, so that is almost done.

Craig is doing the Documentation...
and me, well I've been trying to do a video as I promised I would try... only to discover its not something I have a talent for:wiggle:. After several attempts and a lot of wasted time I gave up. The good news is that hopefully Ted (TuFun) is going to do one for us so you may yet get to see a video preview of the Pup.

Because of all the Pup testing I haven't flown the Camel for a while... I took it for a spin today and I didn't realize how ugly the Camel is by comparison with Pup:icon_lol:... fan of both but the Pup wins in the looks stakes IMO.

I got a chance to fly here some yesterday, and I got to say the model is beautifully done! The sputtering radial sound is amazing! Spent a lot time practice landing this beauty, and handles very well in the air. This vintage bird is fun to fly! Well I'm off to fly and record some footage... movie in the making! -TeD

Thanks Ted... I really looking forward to seeing what you come up with. We received some updated FDE files yesterday from Bernt, which I will get Craig to send to you (if he hasn't already done so). I haven't tried them out yet myself... Just off to do some test flying now.
