A Boeing Dreamlifter - the big, fat, ugly 747 parts-hauling freighter had a hydraulic failure yesterday (March 12) after departing KPAE for Japan - no drama, no damage, no danger, but some educational moments...
It was N718BA, declared an emergency shortly after takeoff from KPAE loss of the number one hydraulic system.

I fly the Dreamlifter on occasion, sounds as if they lost #1 hydraulic system. Not really much of an emergency, have had this happen before heading down to South America in a 400F. Main thing is no nose gear and body gear steering so you can't really steer once on the ground at low speed.

The dumping of 175,000 lbs of fuel is heartbreaking at todays prices.

Does the Dreamlifter differ much from a standard 747 in terms of handling and performance? IIRC a kiwi flys one of the Dreamlifter.
