The Gyrodyne QH-50 DASH (Drone Anti-Submarine Helicopter) was a small, drone helicopter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helicopter) built by Gyrodyne Company of America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyrodyne_Company_of_America) for use as a long-range anti-submarine weapon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-submarine_weapon) on ships that would otherwise be too small to operate a full-sized helicopter. It remained in production until 1969

Would be nice if somone could pick up on a FSX version of this for use on the old Sumner Class Destroyers, Gearing class had them too. This was technology from the 60's before there were the
drones of today. I was once stationed on DD that had the hanger for the QH-50,but no dash. This was then Admiral Morrer's Brainchild.

Here is more info: http://www.gyrodynehelicopters.com/dash_history.htm

Wonder if it feasible if QH-50 could be developed for FSX and landing on the older DD's of the 50's 60's?

Back in the day, the russians were building Subs faster then we could build frigates to hunt them so we modernized the older WW2 era tin cans and put the DASH ASW capabilities on them.
This all gave way in time to the now Firescout.

There was one made for FS9, I used to have it and it was fun to play with. I think I got it over at Hovercontrol. The Navy was still using these into the 90's as targets over at NAWS China Lake. I had an AO3 in my reserve unit that work for the targets shop in her civilian job. If I remember correctly on the FS9 model it had a very basic 2D pit and no VC. I suppose if it works in FSX that you could use the pit from Piglet's MQ bird.

Found it, here's the download page......

I'm going to see if this works in FSX in a bit

Thanks for the HU. It starts in FSX complaining about 2 gauges being incompat (for FS 98) don't know how I could remove them so the start up will not see them.
I could convert this to DDS but not sure if there would be any gaing. What is the Piglet MQ bird that you speak of?

Landed on a lone Cruiser...it was a little bit of a challenge for me. I don't know what's with the visuals arrows and data in the views; they chime in and out at whim.
Would like to remove the incompat gauges if I knew where they where located at.

Sorry, RQ-1A Predator. I found it at Simviation a while ago. Let me look at the panel in Panel Studio and see what gauges need to be changed out.

Completely by coincidence just yesterday I came across drawings for a DSN-1 (QH-50A) from 1961! They're the originals of the ones shown in the link below. If I had more time I'd make a flyable model in FSX...

WOW!!! I wish you did have the time to remake this in a La FSX. It would be a real hoot!! Perhaps with option to carry twin torpedoes configuration. The VC would of been an item of
interest. The electronics were of the tube type genera and by the looks of the controller there appears there wasn't any VC type view like the newer drones use.

:engel016:

There was this one with a pilot in it; that would of been interesting version to develop for FSX just use Goggles as VC view. LOL

I've been looking closely at the drawings again and I'd love to make it! It'd be relatively simple to do too. Trouble is, I have so many other FSX projects which take priority right now...
