I think maybe the key word in this article is 'pulled'. "The line got snagged on something and as I pulled it". Can you imagine the ENERGY it'd take to get a 4oz hunk of lead to smash yer cheekbone and cozy up to yer eye? And the line test? What was this fellow fishing for--Nessie?

I thunk Brits always FLYfished! You know, split-bamboo rods, tweeds and elbow patches and all that.:)

:costumes: I know you're joking Sandy. I used to do a bit of fly fishing until I had to spend the money on feeding a child! My rod is carbon fibre, my reel has ceramic bearings & is made of lightweight alloy.I couldn't even tell you what the fly-line is made of. Some kind of space program polymer. leaders are synthetic & if you want the line to float a little higher you spray it with a silicone water repellant. Tweed? I've got neoprene waders & a Goretex jacket.

My brother has some olde-worlde rods & reels, & they are a pig to fish with. he wears some tweed though, but he likes that image: he has ideas above his station!
