This one is making the rounds of several sites, thought I'd pass it along to here.
Maybe not so much 'secrets' as much as just plain old common sense, military style...

Back in my 20's I was a law enforcement officer. One day while sitting in the car with my training officer, who was also on the SWAT team, he said, "You see that car parked over there? If you pulled him over and the guy got out with a weapon do you think you could hit him from here if you had to shoot him?"
I looked at the distance and thought to myself, "I go the the range and practice often. I am a good shot. On the qualification course I am one of only a few officers in the department that out of a possible perfect score of 300 can shoot in the low to mid 290's." So feeling pretty confident I replied, "Yeah. I could hit him."
To which my training officer replied, "So, if he is in range for you to hit him that means that you are also in range for him to hit you."
Me: "Oh SH--. Didn't think about that."
