View Full Version : How do you make bases usable in Missions?

I can't take off from any of the cool bases when I am in the missions program. I don't drink so I did not spill any beer on it. ;-)

I know some one has the answer out there (rami) so "thanks" in andvance!

The information for the bases needs to be added to the airbases.dat file in the INFO folder.

Obio, I can see the base but when I tell the mission program to take off from there I end up flying over it.

Adding all that info to the airbases.dat file can be a real pain. Especially if you're adding XavierB's EA WWII scenery. Theres some 360 airfield entries, enough to drive you to drink. :costumes:

I think cfs2 will allow you to take off anywhere in Mission Builder provided there is an entry for that place in the airbases.dat file. That file is located in the INFO folder. You can bring the file up with a word processor like wordpad and edit it and save it like any text file.

You will need the name, lat and lon and elevation and heading that you will start from. When I do one of these I usually copy the last airbase entry in the list and then paste it in as another entry. Then change the runway and id numbers so it doesn't duplicate another base. Then substitute your bases info to complete the new entry. Doesn't take too long.

Finding the base's info like lat, long, elevation may be a bother but I think you might get what you need by bringing up the base's area in the mission builder map view, then zooming way in so you can see exactly where you want to be placed for take off, then note in the dialog box the lat and lon and elevation of your cursor.

How to add airbases to you airbase list.

Here is How!

You need to go to My Computer/Local Disk C/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Combat Flight Simulator 2/INFO Folder/Look for a file call airbases.

Open it with notepad by clicking your mouse on the left side.

A window will show up with the word open with.

Two options will show up. Select the option thats says "Select a program from the List".

Click the one that says notepad.

A list of Airbases will showup.

This example is from my three last airbases listed on my TEST CSF2 copy airbase file. The last two entries
are two Italian entries that I want to add to my list of airbses.

What you need to do is to add them by following the sequence numbers in the runway and the id numbers from the previous airbase entry in your list.

Thats it!

PS Remember to follow the sequence exactly as in the previous airbase listing other wise it will not work. Also to place the little square box at the End of of you airbase list.

I hope I have been helpful

PS Remember you do need the sceneries that this bases come with for this Bases to show up properly

This post will allow you to have ready to use Landing points to over 600 Landing points and possible Airfield all over the World through your Mission Builder!

You need to install this package before you go installing the following information inside the Info folder EAWWII Scenery - 2006 Edition (http://www.netwings.org/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcd.cgi?az=redirect&link_id=000003036&url=http%3A%2F%2Ffiles.netwings.org%2Ffiles%2Fcfs2 _scenery%2FEAWWII_Scenery_-_2006_Edition%2Feawwii_full_scenery_2006.zip) at http://www.netwings.org/library/CFS2_Scenery/index-3.html

The best List of Operations Areas for the Mission Builder so far. This list was made by many Arthurs but I put the collection together. I hope you enjoy it!

How to use them you might ask?

Go to click on my computer/Local Disk/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Combat Flight Simulator 2/INFO/look for the file call opareas.Open it with the notepad.Erase all the information with in it.Copy this information and place inside this file. Its that easy!

Miami;
I believe that the "Jad" has put together a zip file called
msn_bldr_spt_pack
It has the descrip.dat and other add-ons pretty well laid out. Simple cut and paste into the folders concerned. My problem with the airfields is that I found one set that is really nice but I found a lot of duplicate airport id numbers. Hard to put together a comprehensive list of ALL bird nests when some are the same number. Hate to change identifiers in case missions are forthcoming for them and then have to go back and re-edit.

There is also another problem that I have.Planes like to takeoff and land into the wind. In CFS2 they takeoff into the wind and land down wind.Is there a correction for that?:d

Moonbutter2,

I saw in your post that you find yourself just flying over the base. Did you select "Take Off" and not the default "Turn" starting maneuver from the Route tab?

That step by step by step on loading worked!
