Steve Parsons has released v 3.2.1 of his shaders fixes. Also in the pack is a new texture file that changes the colour of the non-Dx10 materials identifier (those blue calling cards with Microsoft FsX over them). The texture is now a very dark colour and one of the benefits I've found is Piglet's Porter. With lights on the vc became very blue and unusable. Tim didn't use Dx10 and some small anomaly caused lights on to show the blue calling cards all over the vc...not anymore looks just as it was in Dx9 ! Well done Steve :applause:

Now here's an interesting thing. I decided to try the FSD Porter which is an Fs9 port-over and would normally show white. now it's all there but the highly reflective textures render it a little transparent. Not sure it it's the texture alpha channels or the mdl itself.

So if you can stand a matt finish to your port-overs looks like this is a semi-cure for the all-white issue.

Here's the FSD Dx9 port-over in FsXA Dx10 Pilatus Porter with the alpha channels removed...except for the spinner so you can see the before and after effect. The Prop-behind-the-clouds issue remains of course.

It would appear you have developed a new "stealth" technology.:jump::jump:

One of Steve's beta-testers here... Steve had been working on a fix for the "grey box" missing night textures for the last month or so, while also working on the shader patch at the same time: I had been testing FlyTampa's St. Maartens and the old MAAM-Sim's KRDG - Reading, that comes on the CD with the B25, plus some old aircraft - just to see the impact on true fs9 scenerey's, when over a few days I became puzzled/messed up by the end results of conversions, as it seemed that the "Fixer" - conversion tool was screwing up some already pretty good "fixed" textures - that were not showing grey boxes even before the conversion.. So why was I converting them??? Was this an update (1.2) from FlyTampa, that I had somehow not installed? I had no idea what was going on, as KRDG was somehow pretty good day, evening and night - without any conversion! ...and then a light came on! The Shaders themselves were fixing the grey boxes - we didn't need a "converter" program! - Well - it was a month's work for Steve - down the drain! Not only are many of the bad scenery's fixed - but many of the FS9 scenery's are now suddenly compatible!

So, you guys are right - the shader patch now does much more than intended or expected, (and there's some more to come, too).

Anyway - I'll shut up now - you go and enjoy a sim with a new lease on life! Life is Good!

All the Best,

pj

Hi Paul,
Nice to see you posting here. Dx10ers are a minority here as elsewhere but we are a growing band as a fixed Dx10 is just so much easier on fps and sooooo smooth:engel016:

Thanks, Roger! - and thanks, also for that tip on the transparency issue. It happened to my Chip, and was another of those "Shader dilemmas"... "Why can I see my Chip - and the Maddog without AddonConverterX running???" "What the heck's going on??"

So - yeah - DXTBmp does a great job, doesn't it! But how do you fix prop textures, though? I remember lots of conversions happening 5 or 6 years ago, but can't remember a particular "How-To", though. Ideas?

All the Best,

Sorry Paul,
Prop behind the clouds and glass issues are actually one and the same and are fundamental differences in the way Fs8 and 9 models are constructed and there is no fix. However darkening the prop alpha channel helps a great deal to hide the issue.

Hmmmph! So I guess the answer is to steal a prop from a genuine FSX aircraft... OK.. I can do that. Thanks, Roger.. :ernae:

If you want to send me your prop texture, I'll darken the alpha for you.

Ok you're on. I'll take them almost to transparent. Just got to figure out how I get them back to you.

Get yourself a DropBox!

https://www.dropbox.com/

Free, photos in one section, files in another. There's a folder on your desktop, just like any other folder: open it with explorer, create a folder, under, say "Photo's", and call it anything you like, and put your photo's in there. In practice, I've found that it's easier to put files in the Photo's folder, as the link (rt-click on the file - "Copy Link") is very straight forward, whereas sharing a file folder is a bit more difficult (You need the sharing partner's email to share the folder - you don't need it to share a file)

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qqvavxkv5rizvuy/FwyFZgIOCS

Beats the heck out of MediaShare and Photobucket, etc - no advertizing. Life is good!
