Have been able to clear up a lot of the basic small detail that needed doing, including the wing racks, and even experimented a little with different paint schemes. Bump mapping still to come, but shouldn't be long now. It will soon be time to lay down which versions will be in the package. As of now, along with the standard P-40N there should also be the stripped down 4-gun type, with minimalist instrument panel, plus fighter transition trainer, long range fighter with three drop tanks, and fighter-bomber. If I'm feeling adventurous, there may even be a N-1 version with 'birdcage' canopy. There will be examples from the USAAF, RCAF, RAF, RAAF, RNZAF, RSAF, Soviet Union, Brazil and the Netherlands.

There's a good chance, if I can find any shots of the original aircraft. :) When it comes to doing a restored version, it depends on if there are interior and exterior photos available. I do intend to do a restored P-40N, if possible.

In the meantime, just some underside screenshots that didn't make it to the upload yesterday. :)

Mike, along with your Bf-109K, you couldn't have picked a better aircraft for your next project. She is a real beauty and I love watching the project progress. Thanks for keeping us posted. Now where did I leave those paint brushes. Can't wait.

Too early to say, as there is still a fair amount to do overall. Stay tuned to this forum, though, as I'll be posting updates as things move along.

I might be able to get to a P-40 currently being restored here at Wigram , not a 'N' model but i do no they are meticulous in rebuilding the cockpit and was told many parts and panels are from the that later model .

@ Matt , thanks for the listing .. the very aircraft i mentioned did come in from OZ , be interesting to go thought the list and match it .

With the topic of "Little Jeanne" cropping up, here are a few photos I had saved a few years back. For those not familiar with this aircraft, the aircraft, a 49th FG combat vet, flies today painted in the same markings it wore during WWII.

This first photo shows "Little Jeanne" during the war, with its wartime pilot, Lt. Robert Warren. (Photo courtesy of the late Murray Griffith (Precision Aerospace))

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y282/Bomber_12th/raiden/JDKRW001.jpg

The aircraft was abandoned in a "boneyard" at Tadji Airfield on New Guinea. Here are a few photos from the Pacific Wrecks web site showing the condition of the aircraft when it was found in the 1970's. In the B&W photo, besides the airframe of "Little Jeanne", with it are the P-40N 42-105951 (recovered, but still in storage), and the P-39Q "Brooklyn Bum 2nd" (which of course was also recovered and restored to flying condition). A similar, but larger, photo exists showing even more airframes within this "boneyard".

After being recovered, "Little Jeanne" was restored at Precision Aerospace in Australia. In 2005, Lt. Robert Warren was invited to Precision to see "his" aircraft once again, now fully restored. (Photo credits in images)

A few years ago, the aircraft was sold to the Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis collection in France. Having gained quite a bit of, albeit authentic-looking, 'weathering' while owned/flown by Murray Griffith (note the oil leaks on the nose cone in the previous photos), either just before or just after the aircraft was sold, Murray stripped and repainted it, so that it would look brand new again - as can be seen by these photos, taken shortly after the aircraft's arrival in France. The aircraft is often flown these days by George Perez (as seen piloting the aircraft in the photos below), who also calls the Sonoma Valley in Califorina, home, where he has his rarely-seen, but flown, P-51D based (having purchased the aircraft at the age of 18 in 1966!). Like "Little Jeanne", there have been quite a number of 49th FG P-40N's recovered in the past decades, which are either stored (pending restoration), under restoration at this time, or have already been restored and flying.

Another of these is the example owned by John Fallis - P-40N-5 42-105861 - a combat vet from the 49th, and is painted in the authentic markings of "Suzy", registered N49FG.

And here is a great video from inside the cockpit on a pleasure flight with John Fallis and this very aircraft

Another proven 49th FG P-40N combat vet that is under restoration right now, is 42-104986, in Australia. This aircraft too was recovered from New Guinea, as recently as 2004 (http://www.pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/p-40/42-104986/index.html). It is being returned to the same markings it wore during WWII, while assigned to Capt. Nelson Flack (who shot down a Ki-61 Tony with this very aircraft - which is ironic, as within the same hangar this aircraft was/is being restored in (I'm not sure if it is at Precision anymore), a Ki-61 is also being restored to flying condition.) Note the very destinctive authentic checker-board tail markings, which will really set this one apart when it hits "the scene". (Note Jerry Yagen's P-39 under restoration in the background, which I'm crossing my fingers will be flying this comining year)
