I really pay no attention to anyone's particular specs. I have seen massive builds listed in threads where the poster is having poor performance issues, and I have my little rig that cost me $600 when I built it a few years ago that keeps me happy to this day. In the end it comes down to how an individual perceives his flying experience is. No two experiences will be the same, even on identical rigs.

Same as above, I purchased a Dual Core system about 3 or 4 years ago now, moved some HDD's over from the one that went south on me, bought a "New" NVidia 9600GT card with 512 RAM and run two 22" flat screens and am extremely happy to be able to run FSX with a lot of the sliders over to the right. Like Robert, I've read posts where folks paid big bucks to get a system that would make ours look sick and yet they weren't happy with the way FSX ran.....go figure.

I agree specs dont mean much for me either, I just want some that I can turn on and run what i want. Fsx gets the least amount of usage on my system, MS solitaire and MS office sadly gets more usage

sorry I dont suffer Hardware envy or drool over computer bits and pieces

I'm stuck with a Donkey Dual core intel backup system, no thanks to them destructive military contractor movers err. Next time I hope they have a crew from Alaska that knows what Arctic Canada Wx is! But i'm about 6 months out from gathering all my parts for a excellent AMD build that performs well enough for me with FSX and Prepar3D.

I picked up a Dell XPS 8300 early this year at Best Buy and have been extremely happy with the box. Here's the specs..

Intel i7 2600 @ 3.4Ghz
AMD Radeon 6700
8 G RAM
1T hard drive
Windows 7 Home Premium
Dell 23" monitor

I added a 500 G hard drive from my old computer and upgraded the stock power supply to more adequately serve the power needs of the unit.

Used one of those in college Lab pc. Finally college upgrade over time with a 286 with color monitors, then my last year of college 386 machines. Use to bring in my floppy of FS on my break, and fly and design some aircraft. I still have my pc I built in college... Monochrome amber monitor, 1x 5.25 drive, 1x 3.5 drive, 386SX 16Mhz processor, one meg of ram, and no hd... $1,100.

I still have a IBM model 80 from around 1990, it was a huge machine it its days! 160Mb harddisk and 4 Mb internal memory! When I power it up it really comes alive. It always sounds like the harddisk needs to scrape the top layer off :icon_lol:. However some games, which only run on this dinosaur, are quite interesting and it is amazing what people could program in only a few bytes.

My newest machine is around 2 years old:
Intel core i7 CPU 960 @ 3.20 Ghz
6Gb Ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTX480
Windows 7 Home Premium edition SP1

Computers are like cameras, they get old quite fast, but are too expensive to throw away!

Cheers,
Huub

Holy :pop4:!!!

What are you going to do with 32 gigs of ram in a laptop? I struggle to use 8, even at work (IT) when I have literally 30 windows open. :isadizzy:

It's an Alienware, came with it. Just means will be sometime before any upgrades are needed. It was honestly a killer deal I received from Dell for them sending me my original build without a video card, 16 gigs of more RAM, bigger & better HDD (750GB Hybrid vs just a 500GB) plus a i7 3820 instead of the ordered i7 3680. Additionally got all for $1500 after they refunded an additional $450. Killer deal and will never bad mouth Dell again, at least till my next build.

Guess the good part is you can run FSX on 7 other virtual machines at the same time while you're flying on your main one. :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Have fun with that thing!
