OT: Me 410 Engine Run (1988)

I thought this was too cool. As seen in the description, this was an engine run performed on the RAF Museum's very rare Me 410 back in 1988. This is the Me 410 that is on display at the RAF Cosford museum - I believe it is said that this is only one of two Me 410's known to exist.

Great engine sounds, with the high-pitch superchargers of the DB 603's very easy to hear. : )

Airplane noise is such a fascinating subject. There are so many pieces that contribute to the entire “experience”. That 410 video was like eating chocolate ice cream, and that chill goes through your whole body. It's those superchargers! Damn, that was nice... Thanks John!

Thanks for posting John. I reckon there are a great many rare aircraft walled up in museums that are just a hair's breadth from flying status. If you think of the state that some flying warbirds were in when their restoration started, putting the whole Cosford WWII collection in the air would be a breeze!!

With the fact that that video exists, I'm hoping that there is video also of the engine-runs done on the RAF museum's Fw 190 and Ki-100 as well - both with original powerplants (granted, for the Fw 190, it wouldn't be any different than the numerous engine run videos of the FHC's Fw 190 which has an original powerplant as well). These engine runs were done around the same time as the Me 410 engine run seen in the video posted, in the period of the mid-late 80's.

As Dave shows (thank you for the photos!), the Me 410 is on display at the RAF Cosford location, while the Fw 190 and Ki-100 can be seen these days at the RAF Hendon location.

I seem to recall a history channel show "aircraft of the Luftwaffe" that examined the 210 & 410. Can't say forsure if they cranked up the engines. I sure would love to see just about any German WII twin propper for P3D....guess I've got something for twins! :-)

Great find John :cool: the engine sound is so unique to the DBs , they brought a BF-109 G-10 into New Zealand for the 1996 Warbirds over Wanaka airshow and had the opportunity to be there on the engine run up, that whistle sound was so distinct and of course later during it test flight as it come charging down the runway, that is a sound you will never forget, once passed tho you don't hear it , be nice to have that sound packaged to Mikes FP 109K.

The three live engine runners resided at RAF St Athan when those recordings were made and had lived there for some time. The Chimneys of the Aberthaw power station are visible in some of the shots.

I saw all three running there at different times.

Are they run at the current locations ????

As far as I know no. The 410 is walled up at Cosford and the other two at Hendon.

sounds exactly like my oldtimer (Kaiser Jeep M35A2 Deuce) . 465 cui, no muffler, just a screaming turbo....
