View Full Version : Symlink Creator and Orbx sceneries

I recall the name Symlink Creator, and Orbx scenery. I tried a search in the forums for any relevance of it, and can not find it. If I remember correctly, this "Symlink Creator" is/was used to link the Prepar3D folder so that the Orbx products could be installed directly to P3D.

I've got a few questions to ask about using it if anyone knows.

Q1- Does it work?
Q2- How is it used?

I ask those two questions mainly because I want my Orbx sceneries installed into Prepar3D, without having FSX installed to do it. I've no idea when Orbx will release the new installer. Honestly, I've waited long enough. I want better scenery to fly in, now. :icon_lol:
I also searched for information via Google on how to use Symlink Creator. I came up with nothing for a tutorial. Which has me guessing I used the wrong search terminology.

Has anyone used this application?
Then again, I may be getting my wires crossed and there is no relevance to what I'm talking about.

Third party migration tools will not update the modules or write the necessary scripts. Without the right module all ObjectFlow-enabled objects will disappear and switching regions will not be possible

See my response to your last thread:

Hello OleBoy,

You can check which sceneries have dual installers released already here:

http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/top...line-versions/ (http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/49824-dual-installers-for-online-versions/)

Last update of dual installers was October 30th. For sceneries that do not have dual installers yet you can use the Migrator Tool on the support page:

Hello:

Some here may be interested in the (many) possible applications for "link" technology" with FS ...as discussed in this thread and 2 Blog posts:

"...making other existing installed OrbX FSX or non-OrbX FS8 / FS9 / FSX sceneries available within ex: MSFS or P3D without copying scenery packages, reinstalling them (again) via tinkering with the registry and/or using batch files to fool installers, and without being dependent on the OrbX Migrator tool (which presently only works for 'selected' OrbX and OzX content)."

PS: SysInternals' utility "Junction v1.06" by Mark Russinovich used in a batch file can turn links on and off for greater safety than with more permanent links:

Hope this helps ! :mixedsmi:

For some reason there was a glitch in the other topic that caused the links not to show anything for days. They're fine now. It looks like I'll be waiting like the rest until PNW gets up the list.

Thank you.

I will wait.
