View Full Version : F-HESB, Chamonix Mont Blanc, for the ND AS350

Those of you who have followed the paint schemes I have done on the Nemeth AS350 helicopter, have likely noticed that I like to do the more graphic types. F-HFBI of Chamonix Mont Blanc Helicopters was the first I did. The scheme was originally painted by a very creative artist at Titodeco.com. His artistic hand pulled my eyes right into his work. That led me to recreate what his eyes see in beauty.

I know F-HESB has been done by a member at the Nemeth forum already, and for that reason I was not going to do this scheme. Although, I have done a LOT of research on this one, and decided to move forward with my rendition. To the repainter that has already done F-HESB, my apology. I can not resist my lure to bring this scheme alive for FSX. I hope you understand.

**Keep in mind that the real RW helicopter has full windows on the front, right side, and the standard half-size rear window. The left side has the standard (two window) front, and the bubble windowed rear. The latest release by the Nemeths does not include these options.**

**These screens are already out dated as my progress has come a long way since these were taken.**
I will post a progress shot. Bare in mind I have a LOT of work ahead of me before this ever gets finished. This is pre-alpha, and in Prepar3D.

Back to business. :running:

Patience is key to my madness.

*Note the anomaly on LilyMarie. Her nose (in all previous pictures) appears to be dirty. I suspect the bump map is the culprit.
*Update* My suspicions were correct. A little editing to the bump map and....

Adding more little bits.
Door plates
Skids (completed)
Better scaled rivets
Hatch latches
Nose bra details (grommets, ties, etc)

Working with the front, tying the top and bottom together is tedious due to the mapping. After my second attempt, I'm happy. I think. LOL!!

I found an anomaly in the tail (bottom fin) that reflected too many extrusions in the bump map. This has been corrected for those interested.
I will upload the edited bump map as a replacement.

It's late so my image text is wrong. :mixedsmi: The original amount of corrugations was 9 - 1 = 8

Thank you very much for all your hard work Oleboy, i pull my hat ....

Dirk

Thank you, very much.

I mentioned I had planned this particular scheme earlier (months ago) after re-creating CMBH F-HFBI. That scheme (I think) was a more simple task even though it too was highly detailed.
This scheme, well, I had no idea how detailed it actually is on the real helicopter. Tito (the originator of the design) had went through many different stages of air-brushing to get the visual affect as seen in his work.
He must have went through the masking tape and rolls of paper by the cases as he built up the depth in his work!

I do feel rewarded from my efforts. It's a real learning experience attained as I better my 3D depth perception on a malformed egg. :icon_lol:

Also, most here, and other places I have posted images as I progress the stages of this particular scheme, I have a feeling most of the interest comes from flight sim enthusiasts where this scheme hits closer to home. France.
So to all my fellow virtual pilots, and everyone who enjoys what flight simulator is here for, I do this for me, and for you!

A few more shots as I get nearer my goal.
Mind you, the white appearance is actually polished aluminum. Pictures don't really show this.
The main body and upper shroud are not yet worked in.
"Don't procrastinate. Paint it!"

The scheme is currently going through the alpha & spec layer stages. Plus I've added several previously overlooked details.

I may make reinvent bump maps. If new bump maps are done, the rivets and panel lines will get replaced prior to that stage. I've yet to decide.

If you care to read, a little story about my doing this paint scheme.

This scheme, CMBH F-HESB, I have done the most work on out of all the schemes I've done to date. I visually scanned every photo that I had meticulously so I could put every last detail on the exterior. If you followed my progress at any of the forums I posted in, I posted a LOT of pictures. Numerous times I thought the scheme was ready for release. After I posted more images, I would notice I forgot to add some details somewhere. Scanning my resources was never ending.

This (oops, :isadizzy: I forgot something) seemed never ending. Back to my templates I went.
It won't be long now. I'm currently writing a little read-me that will need translation from English-to-French before I can package it up.

NOTE: Google translate is not the best. If anyone can assist me with translating the "read-me", it would be appreciated.

Thanks, Ian. It is a lot of work. My endeavors are really bringing it to life. I should have changed my approach (how many schemes have I done?) ages ago.

I thought my work on F-HESB was finished. I'm finding more details to add. It really makes a difference!

More details added.

1] The weatherstrip below the front glass.

2] Door hinges (front doors) are now textured and look like real hinges.
I'm driving myself NUTS trying to find the door-pin release mechanism and pin. HELP!! :banghead:

3] The engine cowl (long hinge on both sides) has been re-done.

4] The step pockets redone on the right/left sides.

5] Engine hatch cover latches & rivets added and/or reworked.

6] Sling mounts (where they attach to the fuselage/landing struts) have been added.

7] The flag now appears to be tied on with real rope.

8] Recessed lights added in the bottom behind the forward light shrouds.

**Bump/normal maps are also being worked on.
** Displayed in Prepar3D. ;)

Updates can be viewed at; http://sdrv.ms/RQ6GxE

New bump and normalmaps are completed.

Now I'm noticing an anomaly. I think it's in the model itself and not noticeable, or as noticeable on solid color schemes. It is an apparent difference that I'm investigating.
Considering there have been so many other re-painters doing schemes for the AS350, I'm curious if anyone else has noticed the shine difference where it flows from the cabin top, to the sides and engine shrouds?

**Bump/Normals are something I planned on doing (but forgot) on CMBH, F-HFBI. I still may.

Done. But, I realized a discrepancy in the model/material properties that causes shading issues. Not notable in any other paints I did on this model. Something I can't correct as ND did not want to address.
Sorry to say it will not get released.

Another re-painter (I don't recall his name) did this particular scheme that can be found over at Hovercontrol in the downloads section. http://www.hovercontrol.com/cgi-bin/ifolio/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=FSX_Helicopter_Repaints&image=TextureLilymarie.zip&img=117&tt=zip

Edit; I've weighed different options to alleviate the shading issue, and considered reworking the areas to in attempt to blend/weather things together. I admit it's a shame that it's not released because I considered the work one of my best efforts. I'll keep my re-doing/fixing it for something in the future. But right now I have something that's keeping me more than occupied to be doing an about face.

OleBoy
January 9th, 2014, 12:41
Those interested in this repaint can find it in the SOH library.

Note: You may see discrepancies. Certain situations were out of my hands and un-correctable.

This repaint has (out of all of them I've done for the Nemeth AS350) received the most attention to details.
All files contained inside the .zip are completely re-done, for this particular scheme. I am sure there will be those who want to merge my files with other AS350 schemes, and there is no guarantee or promise this will work. If you chose to canibalize, you are on your own.

Create a folder.
Name the folder, texture.F-HESB
Drop all the files from the archive into the folder you created.
Follow the read-me to add the needed info to the config.
